While not adding too significantly to facts that can help solve the mystery around the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, a recent Vanity Fair article does flesh out the story to a greater degree than has cable news. And it does report that a pair of sneakers Joran Van der Sloot is thought to have been wearing that night seem to be missing.
As I have previosuly stated, it suggests that Natalee allegedly appeared very intoxicated and asked Joran Van der Sloot if Satish and Deepak Kalpoe were his slaves soon after entering the car with the three boys.
Additionally, it states that Beth's local Birmingham, Alabama support group calls itself the Fabulous Seven and that they seem committed to continuing to try and find answers in the case by keeping as much pressure on Aruba as possible.
Another item I was told and reported previously is also mentioned, that Joran claimed Natalee performed oral sex on him in Deepak's car prior to their being dropped off at the beach. Still, months of interrogation have not yielded a significant break in the investigation.
It appears as though the FBI was involved from the earliest days of the investigation, yet paints the family of Natalee Holloway as less than cooperative when it came to questioning students in Mountain Brook who had been on the trip. The family is also portrayed as having determined the guilt of Joran Van der Sloot before any real evidence could be accumulated and that police apparently buckled to that pressure, perhaps arresting the suspects earlier than they would have liked, while surveillance and additional investigation was on going.
Individuals following the story will certainly want to read the entire article for themselves. Clearly a lot of misinformation was flowing, in part as the result of conflicting investigations by private dicks TJ Ward and Art Wood, little of which did anything to move the investigation forward. It is likely that none of the highly publicized searches in which EquuSearch took part and used to raise money should have been undertaken - the sources for alleged sightings at the pond and the dump appear to be bogus.
Dompig does report that witnesses claim that Natalee Holloway was drinking a great deal throughout the trip, though it doesn't name the witnesses that support his claim. Evidently conflicts arose between the family and Julia Renfro after she appeared on Fox and suggested that the word on the ground was that Joran was a good student and decent boy. After that, the claim is that Jug pushed the editor while she was holding her child and screamed profanity at her. The family acknowledged the yelling incident but denied there was any pushing involved. Renfro did file a complaint against Jug Twitty for his behavior at the time.
Also, apparently Beth Twitty's comment that she was on a secret mission and planning another strike against Aruba while in Columbus, Ohio was not made to Dompig, but to Bryan Burroughs, the journalist working for Vanity Fair. It also claims that businessman Charles Croes felt he was getting somewhere with Joran that first night when talking with him of events, but that a shout from one of the Alabamians present about the need for the "Aruban assholes" to get their "act together," which was prior to the time when a missing persons complaint could even be filed, resulted in the meeting in front of the Van der Sloot residence becoming more hostile and possibly less productive in yielding any real answers.
Author Bryan Burrough, as well as Dompig and others interviewed for the article seem to agree that at some point Beth Twitty appears to have been distorting the facts, if not outright lying about elements of the investigation, as well as the cooperation the family was getting from Aruban friends and authorities. Additionally, Dompig claims that Natalee was not the virginal high school student some believe - and that he has spoken personally with individuals who claim she purchased drugs during the trip. He also claims to have seen photos of her "chugging" from a bottle of 151 rum and, surprisingly, goes so far as to call her an alcoholic.
He insists that he has tried to get Natalee's Mother to look at a different picture and at least entertain the possibility that there could be other suspects, but she insists on focusing only on Joran Van der Sloot as the perpetrator of any alleged crime.
Yet, police have not been able to establish a firm time line for Joran Van der Sloot's movements late on the evening of Natalee's disappearance - there was a break in at a fisherman's hut, and if Natalee either met her fate beyond a sandbar just 200 yards offshore, or her body was taken there after an accident or criminal act, it is likely that the body will never be found.
Similarly, without substantial new evidence, or a confession of some kind, it is likely that the disappearance of Natalee Holloway may well remain a mystery forever.

Thanks for the update. :O) !

What a sad tale this has become. I hope for you Mr. Dompig, that you never look back on your comments in VF and regret the words you spoke.
Joran, Deepak, Satish and Paulus et al, as the saying goes, innocent until proven guilty. Be mindful though that those who were invloved in Natalee's demise, that there is a future court where diversionary tactics will not work. God sees with perfect clarity and will strip away the nonsense.
Natalee I hope you’re in the arms of an angel and
may you find sweet comfort there....
God Bless the Holloway and Twitty families.

Was there any indication in the article about what type of drugs she supposedly bought?

"He insists that he has tried to get Natalee's Mother to look at a different picture and at least entertain the possibility that there could be other suspects, but she insists on focusing only on Joran Van der Sloot as the perpetrator of any alleged crime."
That is a very curious statement coming from Dompig who said that the boys were the only "possible" suspects nearly a month ago. It would appear from his statements that there is no real distance between his position and that of the family's.
And who cares what the family thinks? You're the police, have some backbone for the love of god. If you don't think it is a good idea to arrest the boys, then don't arrest them. Don't give me this crap about media pressure. The simple fact of the matter is that if the family has this much control over the investigation then the ALE is either corrupt or unimaginably stupid. Obviously you don't let the victims parents dictate who you do and don't arrest or when you go about doing it. And you sure as hell don't let them set the focus for the investigation. Why? Because they are in an emotional state and aren't objective enough to make such decisions, that's why. And that is ignoring the fact that they neither the authority nor the expertise to even be eligible to make such decisions in the first place.
The bottom line is that this is just a cowardly excuse for the mistakes made by the ALE.
"As I have previosuly stated, it suggests that Natalee allegedly appeared very intoxicated and asked Joran Van der Sloot if Satish and Deepak Kalpoe were his slaves soon after entering the car with the three boys."
From what I understand, it doesn't suggest that at all. Certainly it mentions that Joran was claiming this, but he isn't exactly a reliable source.

I don't know why but, all that stuff about Natalee just feels more real than anything I've previously read. All of the weirdness and secretiveness and conflicting statements make a little sense, if Natalee was a very troubled young girl. There are many teenagers who are alcoholics and manage to keep it a secret for a long time.
I still have a problem believing the boys did anything to her unless by accident. Did Burrough give the impression he thinks they killed her?

Namecalling isn't going to resolve Natalee's disappearance. Why take issue with the statement that Natalee drank a lot or had oral sex with Joran? Does it matter? Does that bring Natalee closer to home. Apparently, other witnesses have given statements as to the drinking and drugs, so why keep denying it.
It doesn't matter. What matters is what happened to her and where she is? Is it better for Natalee if the world believes Joran is responsible? Is she less dead?

I appreciate the new perspectives that the VF article provide. All along, the MSM media, particularly Fox and MSNBC, has been relentless in one direction. It's understandable why a missing girl's family is distraught, and feel that the police aren't doing enough. However, the bad behavior of the H/Ts exceed these normal exprectations.
I can appreciate wanting to know their daughter's fate, and retrieve her, or get her back home. However, their focus is shifted to that of revenge against Aruba, and I don't see Aruba as being uninvolved, unconcerned, or cowardly. They reacted under pressure from the family, against their better judgement. The police are damned no matter what, and the family is excused all of their transgressions. But, grief is no excuse to push a woman like Renfrow around, or Beth boasting about causing more havor and hardship to people in Aruba who were very supportive. The MB community is rich, and they have kept scrutiny on them to a minimum, and prevented their kids from telling the real story.
Unfortunately, the twittys and holloways don't want the truth. They want Joran and the Kalpoes to die. I am terrified by their violent rhetoric, and their hate-campaign. Someone is going to think they're helping them, and shoot those kids, and I don't think there's enough to prove they had anything to do with Natalee's disappearance. Many other explanations exist.
This vigilante terrorism endorsed by the Holloways and Twittys has made me totally unsympathetic to them. They want others to suffer. That makes them mean people, even if they suffered a tragedy.
Thank God some of the real stories are coming out.
It's time for the Twitty/Holloway madness to end once and for all.

fact remains Natalee Holloway is missing while in Aruba- last seen with 3 locals from Aruba on May 30, 2005
The world is waiting for the Aruban LE to give everyone the answers as to where this tourist is today!
Aruban LE received a missing persons report in the very beginning hours and it is their responsibility- not referring to any other case/missing person- question is:
Aruba LE where is this missing teen?
