It's not correct, silly! As far as politics go, anyway!

But, thanks for being brave! We need more people like you, Dan!

I live here, Muirnin, and I can vouch that Louisiana politics have NEVER been correct anyway...so...carry on, Dan. :)

Just curious....why are you visiting this site at all? I'm sure there are plenty of left wing sites for you to visit..sites that will welcome your mindless chatter...

mocking press, not Bush ;)

to prove it I've changed my name (see above)

This is one of the few things that I will agree with Dan on regarding President Bush. It is not a race issue for sure. But what Dan may disagree with me on is that this seems to be a class problem.
As for Kanye West... How can a man that makes millions of dollars a year rapping music, claim that the United States is still soaked with racism? With the opportunities and abilities that he has, it sounds to me like he should be praising the United States government and keeping his criticism to a minimum. Its good that he is trying to raise awareness because of his celebrity status, but he should evaluate what he is so critical about before he opens his mouth.

Not sure about the deaths seeing as how many body were so badly decomposed due to the length of time being out in the heat and water for so long. And so many that have not been identified let alone the fact that more bodies are being discovered as people are finally are being let back into their areas to look into their homes. I dont see how anyone has a real account of what race has been more effected by this.
I know that they werent the only ones effected by this storm but if you watched on tv as many of us did you saw the faces of the people who were stuck in the super dome, the convention center and out on that highway over pass, it wasnt just CNN showing it Fox News showed the faces and stories of those same people.

Someone is screwing with us!

Dan, this post comes back to your email address!

Guess we have to "meet quota" to satisfy all the racists in the country.
This type of "score keeping" is absolutely ridiculuous, unless the intention is to continue to promote division. The news sources that harp on this kind of crap are oblivious to the results they create, but soon, it would not surprise me to see something like this:
"More blacks than whites died in hurricane......XXXXXXXX, so we will need to kill some white folk so that we can all be equal."
Pathetic, but that is the mindset of many in this country.

Interesting to see you are still collaring Kanye West. By focusing on the sound bite, it becomes far too easy to use him as a caricature/effigy that you can swing out as needed. But he said more than that.

The link that you've posted indicates that the ethnicity of around 25% of the deceased victims' cannot be determined, so whatever narrow point is being made here concerning the number of deaths broken down by race is based on fairly incomplete information.

Did Kanye West equate the racial breakdown of deceased victims as a sign of Presidential indifference to African Americans? I don't think so. Look at this transcript:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/03/AR2005090300165.html

This is what, according to the Washington Post, came before the "doesn't care" comment:
"West: I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says, "They're looting." You see a white family, it says, "They're looking for food." And, you know, it's been five days [waiting for federal help] because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I've tried to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what is the biggest amount I can give, and just to imagine if I was down there, and those are my people down there. So anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help -- with the way America is set up to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off, as slow as possible. I mean, the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of people that could help are at war right now, fighting another way -- and they've given them permission to go down and shoot us!"

He calls himself a hypocrite because he went shopping before giving a donation, focuses on media representation of victims in terms of race, and although he speaks of blacks more than once, also mentions the porr and less well-off. If you look at a recent New York Times report, you'll see a cross section of some of the victims:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/18/national/nationalspecial/18victims.html?ex=1292562000&en=6df5ae74349cf92b&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

Hope that helps clear up some of the confusion about Kanye West's comments. And I hope you give the same attention to FEMA's communiques and email message snafu that you have given to this.

I'm not familiar with posting to these sites, so I may not be posting this in the correct area, sorry. I was just wondering if anyone was aware or if anyone was really interested in the impact Katrina had on 2 small towns just east of New Orleans, which was basically "ground zero" - Bay St. Louis and Waveland? We are moving forward on our own as much as possible, but please remember that 80-90% of our towns are gone - south of the railroad tracks is COMPLETELY gone in Waveland and not much better in B.S.L. - we are resilent and we will rebuild - there is no question about that!! - but please remember us and keep us in your prayers!

Living at Ground Zero

I believe that the media can play a big part in what people think...by saying that I mean that they can take things and twist them to make a story. In response to what Kanye West said, Bush doesn't care about black or poor white people. He didn't have to say it, Bush showed it! It's been years since New Orleans have had a white mayor, so when Nagin said "New Orleans will be a chocolate city again" he is talking in terms of the majority of the "evacuee's" are African-American, therefore, in order to get our people back in the city, we have to bring them home. If you bring them home, then that means the majority of the poputlation in New Orleans will be Black once again (hence: Chocolate City!). This is a thought I would like to put on everybody's mind...The levee system is still not up to par yet, and hurricane season is a few weeks away, are they waiting to see which mayor will win (black or white) to fix it? Meaning, if the white man wins, they will hurry and patch it up and the white man will come to the rescue and "save the big easy" or leave the levee as is (and claim they are doing something about it), and a black mayor wins, and everyone views him as not being a good leader? People must remember, who ran first and who stuck through the storm with the people!!! Time will tell!

That's bullshit they had more blacks that died in Katrina when whites, I see it face to face I was an Katrina survivor and i was in the Superdome. And I'm very angry with the press that they didn't cover the superdome to much and It was a lot worse in the superdome me and my friend have see stuff that will make the convention center look like a girl scout camp. but they an more coverage in the convertion center. We even had snipper shotting at us and hearing people get rape and could not do anything and help was never there. no food no water, I have seen a man jump of the catwalk to his death. I was injuried and had FEMA had turned me down and it took for me to pass out for the army to bring me to the Fema medical unit. and have a New Orleans Police sticking they guns in my face. when i was trying to get medical help. and FEMA ran out on us to talk care of ourselfs in the medical. i was injuried badly an i had to talk care of people i didn't even know. And when we was posted in camps in Siloan springs,Arkansas. I have to to save this white woman and her teenage girl from a man twice my size. and won the fight and it took 6 polices just to hold him down and even used a stunguns and didn't work on him and had to us two handcuff on himk. everyone keep calling me a hero but i'm no hero. If i was a hero i would be able to save myself , I think of killing myself everyday it feels very bad for me to live each day and I just want to end everything.....
