I forgot - this is France, when they say tough, it's usually as in talk. And I don't care what your civil liberties positions are, if we ever face 20 city rioting here again, I want the old Mayor G-damned Daly calling the shots -not some French diplomat in loafers.
Germany and other european countries are starting to chime in on this via the link below - I hope many are taking steps incase this continues to spread. If some of those same european governments weren't all so smart and so socialist, we could be seeing the end of europe's entire economic model.
Unfortunately, based upon their track records, they may now only sink deeper into socialism and fetid beauracracies to bail them out. If that happens, Europe will likely burn ... again.
Mr de Villepin, who cancelled a trip to Canada last week as a result of the riots, attended Sunday night's security meeting with Mr Chirac alongside Nicolas Sarkozy, the interior minister who has been widely criticised for his tough stance against the rioters.

There was talk today that france should do as the US and offer after school programs and adult supervision to teens.

It's pretty hypocritical of the French to criticize America for social injustice when they are hiding it themselves. Case and point, the treatment of billionaire Oprah Winfrey, all because she is black, also there is no black people in high profile positions in France. Even though America has racial problems, we do have some black Americans in high places. We have holidays and special inventions for those who inspired change, which our government also acknowledge. So this BLACK MAN want to know how can France judge America when their problem is worst than ours, which is something many black Americans been knowing for a long time now. When I see more black faces in the government, then I will believe in your social justice!
