Beauchamp Tower Corporation has created Operation Enduring Service which will utilize obsolete military ships to provide emergency relief and disaster response at no cost to the taxpayers and a savings to the government of at least $100 million.

I am always for the private sector performing instead of government because there is usually a profit motive, therefore 1000 times better results. People will work when they have something to gain. What is missing here is HOW they are going to do this at no cost to taxpayers? Or WHERE is the money going to come from? If there is no profit motive, then something smells fishy. Why would anyone do this for free...unless it is a TRUE charity, then it is also possible.
I have no doubt that there are legitimate free market answers to almost any circumstances, but in this case cannot readily see one. If this is totally private, and involves no federal or state funds, then I say heck yeah!

If it is another cover to steal taxpayer dollars, or a sham "charity" just to avoid taxes, then it is nothing more than another ruse to steal our money so that one of the corps can make another huge profit. More details are needed.

TheAlamo,
Your concern about the legitimacy of the organization is understandable. Hopefully I can clarify things a bit further here, while being brief. I’d started to answer he questions you raised in the original post; however after about three pages of text most readers tend to loose interest in the post.

The project is being funded through corporate donations, the salvaging of obsolete ships that we (the taxpayers) are paying shipyards in England to pickup and scrap, when the English Shipyards also turn around and re-sell the metal and other salvageable equipment and several other projects. All helping to make the project self-sufficient; the costs to get it up and running have already been pledged and are contingent upon the procurement of the ships.

The contact information for Beauchamp Tower Corporation is available in the post, or if you have any specific questions or would like more details let me know and I'll get them for you.

Warm regards,
phin

Then it sounds like a very positive thing to me. I have no problem with the corporations getting a legitimate tax break, and if it frees up tax dollars that are returned to the citizenry, it is even better, though I doubt government will ever return too much....but that is not your fault.
Sounds like a good idea, and...if it prevents top down government control in those types of emergency situations, you will have done more for the victims than they will ever know...as well as those who don't even know they are victims...but that is another story in and of itself!
Good luck!

This is a great idea, Dan. Thanks for shining more light on it.

One of the most realistic, sounded ideas since Katrina...earlier, some of us @ RWV did discuss futuristic housing for victims...above water platform. Infact, some navel vessels houses civilian ground employees in NO's and the gov't loss millions on these cruise ships to house victims...salvaged ships to run supplies...does make sense if transportation to berthing facilities are not flood/destroyed. Time-saving seems essence in transporting supplies.
IMO, most individual cases of donatations would support this effort.
