Natalee Holloway: Why Not Boycott Media Stunts?

People accuse me of attacking the family of Natalee Holloway, which isn't true. Some scant few times I have said something as regards certain statements I find irresponsible, however, if you actually read my posts objectively, you'll find my real criticism is of the media involved.

In part, that's why I posted about another blogger recently. That individual is putting herself out there as a member of the new media. And If I feel they, or any member of the media needs criticizing, I intend to do it - just as many criticize me in a similar way. And in most cases, I leave the criticism of me right here in my comments area.

I don't think readers realize how frustrating it is to see a media company like a Fox, with all their resources, not engaged on the ground asking questions, ferreting out the truth. Early in this story there were American print media resources on the ground in Aruba. By and large, they went around looking for information, confirming or refuting it. The cable news phenomenon we see now has nothing to do with journalism, or news reporting. You can't point to any member of the media who is developing any new facts of their own.

Many of you embracing what you are seeing on TV these days can't seem to grasp the tremendous good real reporting can do in getting to whatever the truth might be of a story. Look at this simple example illustrated by the images posted here.

See, here's what I don't get. These images date back over a month ago from MSNBC. I believe it was Greta Van Sustern of Fox who just recently expressed shock that only now were we finding out the investigation was controlled out of Holland. What a bizarre comment coming from a lawyer when most observers of the case should have known that for sometime. Fox even had lawyers with international credentials explaining it on air back in the summer.

Holland has always controlled the justice ministry. It's disingenuous, or incompetent for someone in her position to think or pretend otherwise. And that doesn't even include the fact that the family has legal council in Aruba who, one might think, would have taken the time to explain the system to them at some point very early on. It was certainly obvious to me.

As for this boycott nonsense, why not follow the correct process to file a formal complaint as it was mapped out over a month ago? Whether you like it or not, Holland is a tremendous ally and friend to America. They are not evil, nor is Aruba for that matter. But cable news would be treading on very dangerous ground if it tried to actually take on Holland. See, that would be serious. They don't want that. How easy it is to play the bully over a small vacation island which, admittedly, doesn't have the full measure of resources and sophistication you might find in The Hague.

I haven't heard one of these talking heads say anything about boycotting Holland? Or discontinuing trade somehow in protest. The media is sucking you in with half measures which amount to nothing more than ratings driving entertainment. The saddest part of it is that so many Americans seem willing to buy it, as if it were really news. Thank God it's such a small percentage at that.

That is a really good point. The Media (Greta et al) are taking the information provided to them by Beth and not doing there homework. Not investigating anything. It begs the question - Should the MSM let parents be allowed to go on TV revealing details of an ongoing investigation and slandering victims without following up on the information to confirm or deny it? Should Beth be taken at face value everytime she speaks? Are Beth's opinions necessarily indicitive of the ALE as a whole? Is there any liability by say FoxNews for not reporting accurately? Aside from ruining your personal reputation?

So we already know the two PI's are not good at seeking out trails--since they went to Cancun and not Mexico city where the alleged trail allegedly starts.

We've now had our two operatives begin where the trail for NH started, in freaking Cancun. A cab driver told them the (a?) trail started in Mexico City. Next thing you know, the two guys are in a cab speaking to the cabby about white women, the driver says "Blackjack. That is where you want to go?"

Huh?

So they get to a very, very nice house of working ladies and the madam says sure she has some WHITE women and says they have to talk to them about the acts and prices (do sex slaves do the price and act thing?) and down the very nice stair case come several light skinned girls.

JS: NO, do you have any WHITE WOMEN? Scandinavian?

Next they go, swear to you, to a "Gentlemen's Club" because, as per JS: That is where all the prostitutes will be in the same place."

I am not gonna lie to you all. I had to put a towel under me at that point.

OK, so no WHITE women at that house in Mex City or at the Gentlemen's Club where they go through the same thing about any Scandinavian? etc

So they go to Venezuela.

But this time Skeeter adds "Any German? English? English girls with blonde hair? About 18 or 19?"

Nope, just light skinned women. Skeeter laments on video, "Just LATINS."

Next, though we were treated to all the other video--even of Wilma--we get no such video of the action in the hotel room.

What we see next is a shirtless Ty in the hotel room with a gash (already stitched, mind you) on his arm. Stitched. But this is back in the hotel room.

Then he says that a guy came in and punched him and was yelling "NO WHITE WOMEN, NO WHITE WOMEN!" And cut his arm.

I'm guessing, unless this attacker is another American, he was probably not shouting anything with "white women" in it.

Then it's back to Cancun, where Wilma hits, a window caves in, Skeeter is hurt and they show him tied down in a stretcher going into an ambulance.

Our two fearless heros are complaining on video from the hotel room that it's been 24 hrs and that "bandits have begun to loot. It looks bad. WE've gotta get out of here." Some tough guys.

Dr P's lear jet takes them home.

End of investigative trip into the bowels of the sex slave trafficking world.

Back in the studio, Dr P says: "Investigating this is clearly dangerous."

OK, I am speechless for once.

He said this with a straight face.

Part of her personna is being a smart and savy female...what Greta is passing off for smart and savy these days is petty bitchiness and wanting to get even with Karin Jenson for the door in her face from last summer. Greta has used Beth Twitty shamelessly to increase her ratings, allowing whatever fantasy Beth can come up with to run as the latest news from Aruba.

When questioned, Greta has the unmitigated gall to reply that Beth deserves answers, like that's Greta's motive. ROFLMAO...good one, Greta.

As for Dr. Phil's show today. Can someone explain to me what any of that show had to do with Natalee Holloway? I mean, aside from the ratings draw that Phil would get from having Twitty on the show.

Thank goodness that Twitty and the ole' Doc are protecting folks from those Sin-City tourist destinations like Cancun and Aruba.

Any chance that we might see an expose on sex, sin, and prostitution in .... errr .... I don't know .... maybe.....

Fair and balanced, right! Greta got ticked when Jannsen closed the car door in her face and she has continually maligned her every chance she got. She never misses a chance to cut Jannsen down - look at the below where she even references the prosecutor's vacation....

Of course the police or prosecutor should never reveal information that could jeopardize an investigation, but there is much that can be said in every investigation that does not harm it. Even a call like, "I just want you to know we are working on this case" is better than nothing and takes seconds to do. Often the family is sitting at home around the phone — just waiting and waiting and waiting for some news. The pain of the experience of a missing family member can't be described. It IS that horrible. A phone call from the authorities can mean much. The prosecutor has a phone, too, and a one-minute call can make a big difference. Everyone — even a busy prosecutor — can spare a minute. My guess is that in the Natalee disappearance investigation had the prosecutor been staying in constant touch with the family, there would be no call for a boycott by the family.

Incidentally, I always thought it was very bad form for the chief prosecutor to take her vacation this summer when she did. In an important job sometimes it is wise to change plans and keep your nose to the grindstone. Good and dedicated lawyers do it all the time (ask spouses of good lawyers!) Of course if she used her vacation to attend to a sick family member, or to carry some important evidence to the Netherlands, my opinion would be different. But, how do we know? We don't. She is not talking. Incidentally, I have recently heard she wants to talk but that her boss won't let her. How do we know for sure? We don't. Her boss won't talk, either! We don't get information from a press conference or an interview — leaving us to wonder.

Greta reached a real high the other night when Ted Williams on her "panel" came over to her side as she called it. And this is the news, fair and balanced - Give me a break.

I don't get it. What is so hard to understand that they do not update you during an ongoing investigation? They don't talk they just don't do it. It is there laws this happened in Aruba not the USA. Did you expect the Aruban's to have a sophisticated police force? Thats a stretch.. Beth is trying to say the US would tell me and you better or else. I guess she fully expects them to disregard the law for her and won't stop until they do what she demands.

Dan, you're the greatest! I would like to boycott the media, but, it's like a train wreck, and it's hard to look away. I don't think I've seen such continuous irresponsible journalism. Greta is the worst offender, but, they're all pretty disgusting.

But, for even those of us who want to see an end to the media circus, we'd like the case to be resolved. The way Dr. Phil presented this show, if Natalee was alive, she's now dead, same as with Amy Bradley. They will be too high profile, now, and this clown pop psycho-logist makes a show out of it. What's more important, anyway. I love how Harry Tho' respected the Bradley's wishes, and they were too awed by Phil to stay off his show. Now, they've put a nail in her head, too. What is wrong with this insane case?

Nobody in the so-called "media" ever asked Beth Twitty (and her entourage) a hard question. Nobody in what passes for US media challenges her "facts".

This entire case is a tradgey. A girl is missing, perhaps by her wishes most likely against her wishes, we simply do not know and neither does her mother. Those three suspects are simply not sophisticated enough to commit a murder and dispose of the body without leaving a single clue. Just didn't happen. Beth knows it didn't happen and so does Dave. They are angry about what Joran said about Natalee in some of the statements and also what Joran said Natalee said about Beth. She wants revenge and so does Dave. Of course now Beth is caught up in her media stardum and can't let go of the spotlight. Critize me all you want, but that is how I feel.

Right on the money DAN: arlene schipper has said it time and time again on Greta : there is NO GOVERNMENT influence of any kind in the dutch justice system... the hague (which is short for the government) does not and never will try to influence a prosecutor or a judge. Its a completly impartial system. And then greta and rita and nancy just roll over that statement and start talking about how beth deserves this and the government is to blame and voters in aruba are to blame .....its all so DUMB!!

This is what there is to it: Wait until investigation is over, the cases have been presented, judgement passed and then go complain the formal way!And even if you do not get satisfaction when your complaint has been reviewed you can still complain at the non governmental institution of the Ombudsman (typical european governmental complaint research system invented in Sweden). Which is an institute sanctioned by the the government to handle complaints about the dutch public institutions like the aruban justice department. No shortage of options for BT I should think...

The aruban fingers pointing at the Hague are just a result of this boycott bizz (which is so mindboggling to Beth)...the arubans want the Hague to but more pressure on Bush to get everybody back in line (the govenors and senators are supporting a boycott which is simply illegal by US Law). Well today I am officially calling for a BOYCOTT of BETH TWITTY.

My own private boycott. I will not tune into any show that has her on...if I am watching a program, and they announce her coming on I will quickly change the channels.

From this day on, I will not read, write or be a part of any internet blog, message board, or read anything more to do with this case.

I hope that Natalee is found, or I hope Natalee receives Justice. Either way, I'm FOR Natalee.

Beth Twitty IMO, has made a mockery, a circus if you will, of her daughter. She seemed to live vicariously through her daughter when she had her home, and is NOW not only living vicariously through her, Beth has become the celebrity. The BIG hootie. Now this is no more about her daughter, it's about how many wild crazy theories she can be part of to get herself on TV, meet politicians, meet and hang with a millionaire at his home, meet other stars, travel all over, a huge bank account, and have POWER.

IF this woman was TRULY sincere in wanting answers to what happened to her daughter, she would of NEVER left the Island where her daughter went missing. She would of worked WITH the authorities to find those answers, and IF not, be in their faces until she did get them. And not be on TV in the USA every single night, on every cable program. This is NOT going to find answers to where her daughter is. She wants the FAME, POWER and the MONEY that goes with it.

"EVIDENCE" consists of testimony, facts, documents and physical evidence. For example: 3 boys seen driving vic away from bar= fact (evidence); vic seen stumbling drunk when left bar and got in car = fact & (witness) testimony (evidence); 3 boys drive vic to beach and one boy kisses vic on beach = (admission) testimony (evidence); 3 boys are last to have seen, and been with, vic while alive=fact (evidence); admission and/or confession of suspect that 3 boys all had sex with vic that same night=(admission) testimony (evidence); vic never heard from or seen again after having left bar with boys = fact (evidence).
Of course, if a body were recovered, we would probably also have physical evidence such as semen (3 types? ), DNA (ditto), abrasions and bruises, possible cracking of the skull with a blunt object and/or subhematoma, possible stab wounds etc.

All these types of evidence,THAT ARE ALREADY ESTABLISHED, are valid and admissible in a criminal trial for kidnapping, battery, rape,and possibly murder. (You might want to research the case of the mother and son currently in prison for murdering their wealthy landlord--the point? There was never any body found.) Further, testimony by third party witnesses as to vic's (Natalee's) physical and mental state of mind (i.e. too drunk to walk properly, let alone be able to knowlingly give valid consent) is also "evidence" and admissible.

Let's have a recap:
(1) Forcibly taking physical control of vic w/o vic's consent or moving or transporting vic without vic's consent = kidnapping. Also, refusing to allow vic to leave after initial consent-but change of mind-kidnapping. (Note that kidnapping does not require transport of the vic; meremy holding vic in a locked room with no escape=kidnapping.)
(2) Forcibly detaining, or restraining, vic (w/o consent) so that vic is not free to leave = kidnapping
(3) Consent must be SPOKEN OR WRITTEN and must be freely, knowingly and voluntarily given by the vic, w/o the use of drugs, alcohol, force, coercion, intimidation ("Who would believe you against us? "My dad is a judge...")threats, or abuse (or threats of abuse to vic or vic's family or threats to sully girl's reputation as a "Goody Two Shoes").
(4) Consent only applies to acts/matters that have been consented to within bounds of agreed time frame; i.e."I will have sex with you" does not mean "I will have sex with your friends too" or "I will have sex with you for as long as you want, as many times as you want, any way you want...etc."
(5) Any change in environment, location, specifics, persons involved, number of persons involved, acts or matters outside of or in addition to subject matter of the "first consent", or FRAUD (i.e. "It will just be us baby-and I won't go all the way" etc.), void the prior consent in its entirety, and may, in addition, = additional crimes if acted upon.
(6) Consent, once given, and even after given, may be revoked at option of the vic, at any time and at any place without reason or explanation (i.e. vic can "change her mind") and any such revocation voids the prior "consent" as of that moment.
(7) Once a person intentionally puts another person in a knowingly dangerous situation or leaves a vic in a knowingly unsafe location, that person will be liable for any harm that vic suffers as a result of that abandonment (i.e. vic left naked on cold beach after being raped and subsequently dies from exposure = rape AND murder).

In applying this law to the Boys' action/inaction, let's see what we can come up with:
(1) According to numerous witnesses and the boys, Nat was stumbling drunk as she left Carlos & Charlie's
(2) Joran admits to taking Nat to beach and to "kissing" her
(3) Deepak claims they all had sex with her
(4) Joran claims he left her at beach
(5) Natalee never seen/heard from again.

Some initial points:
(1) If Nat was stumbling drunk in beginning outside bar, Q as to whether she gave legal consent, or could have-as to getting in car, as to driving to beach and not hotel, as to driving to beach and not Joran's house (or vice-versa)
(2) Even if Nat "sober enough" to consent to get in car and/or drive to beach, did she also consent to "making out" with Joran? With other 2 watching and/or there? Did she agree to kissing but nothing more? Did Joran tell her he wanted nothing more? And, even more troubling, did Joran tell Natalee that only he would "make out" with her?

Even though we only have THEIR side(s) of the story, part of that story involves Deepak's admission that alll 3 had sex with Natalee, which raises some very troubling questions:

(1) If we believe the suspects' position that Nat was lucid and could and did give legal consent to get in car and/or go to beach, don't we also have to believe that Nat could and did give legal consent to having sex with all three of the boys?? (In order to find Deepak credible.) and
(2) If we believe the boys' story that Nat was lucid at the beach, we must also believe that absent more liquor or drugs administered at the beach, Natalee made a knowing and consensual decision to have sex with three different boys. It seems to me that this is really where the boys' lies break down. Nat supposedly had expressesd some level of interest in Joran on previous occasions; there is NO EVIDENCE of her ever having expressed such interest in the two Kalpoe brothers or any type of interest in boys like the Kalpoes. And the reason is obvious-they weren't her type! Joran was tall, white, clean cut, athletic, smart, cosmopolitan; the Kalpoe Bros. were dark, small and somewhat "gangsta" looking.
Even if Nat was sober enough to willingly consent to getting in that car, even if she was sober enough to willingly consent to being driven to the beach, even if she was sober enough to have willingly consented to "making out" with Joran on the beach-and possibly even to "going all the way" WITH JORAN- there is NO WAY that she would have then willingly consented to being slobbered over, groped, pulled at and f----d by two boys that she had no interest in, probably looked down on and never would have even had as friends; they were not at her level physically, economically or academically. The ONLY way "all of ...[the boys would have] had sex with Natalee" would have been if Joran and one of the brothers held her down while the other raped her OR if she had been unconscious due to a date rape drug or severe intoxication rendering her powerless to defend herself. The Kalpoe brothers are scrawny, sweaty, swarthy, sleezy, low-lifes that Natalee wouldn't have looked twice at or given the time of day to. To suggest that she would have willingly consented while sober and lucid to making love with either of them is outrageous, absurd and defies common sense.

Can anyone still logically believe that the boys "did nothing?" That Paulus did nothing? Hmmm, ever hear of obstruction of justice? Destruction of evidence. Do you know what happens to American lawyers that counsel anyone to hide or destroy evidence? They are disbarred. Let's hope that the Beth Bashers and JoranDP Fan Club out there feels that way when they see their mother, sister, daughter, cousin or girlfriend/wife, half-naked, bloody and lifeless at the morgue after getting a ride home from 3 men that "did nothing wrong."

Americans are multi-taskers and can actually walk and chew gum at the same time. We also get more done in a day than, well, say...Arubans do.

BTW-no dirty plates in kitchen; dinner made, plates in dishwasher.

I have T.V. and Tivo at home and watch CNN and MSNBC and read Time, Newsweek and the Wall Street Journal. Why are you looking in bars? Are the sex slave traders running their brothels right out of C&C now?!

So far I've never heard of a dead person dialing a telephone-but perhaps the Psychic Friend's Network will take Natalee's call. Or, maybe the sex slavers will untie, unchain or unhandcuff Natalee, take the gag out of her mouth, pump her stomach of drugs, feed her, give her water and then provide her with a satellite phone with unlimited minutes and some privacy so she can call her mom and get the hell outa Dodge.

Have a job-you already know that-I'm a lawyer, and even if you don't think so, the U.S. Board of Labor and Statistics thinks that "practicing law" is a "job." In fact, was at "job" almost 10 hours today mediating a case.

I see my doctor every year for a physical, take my vitamins regularly, eat fiber and exercise. My doctor, unlike you or I, went to Medical School, and believes I'm quite healthy and sane, thank you. He has no present plans to commit me.

Slept 6 hours last night; plan to sleep as much tonight unless my dog barks at squirrels. And BTW-she has also had dinner tonight and her bowl is clean.

And lest I forget; Saturday night I went to a hockey game.

Slavery was abolished under Abraham Lincoln in the 1800s and ratified as an amendment to the Constitution-and BTW, I live in America, not Aruba.

Lastly, "Nart" [sic] disappeared in Aruba, not Alabama; investigating there would be a little absurd. The only "circus show" in town is the perverted fiasco of an "investigation" and "judicial prosecution" now taking place in the Big Tent, also known as the Ministry of Justice, in Aruba.

I am not one who believes in conspiracy theories,however, I think that something stinks in the justice department in aruba. aruba sucks! fuck you! I will never TRAVEL TO ARUBA EVER!
