Who says men don't like window shopping? ; )
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) -- In this town, window shopping is attracting a lot more guys than usual. A lingerie store called Spellbound is grabbing attention with live models in the window. Some people have complained, but police say there is nothing illegal about the lingerie models.
"It's tainting the wholesome businesses down here," said Carrie Rossignol, co-owner of Video Game Exchange. "I think it's selfish, and I think it's morally reprehensible."
Update: CNN comes up with an AP pic.

Selfish? Morally reprehensible? Do I hear someone complaining because they didn't think of that marketing ploy first?

Aawww, poor Carrie. She's probably jealous because she can't display the XXX titles the Video Exchange deals in in the window of her establishment.

Yes, selfish! Yes, morally reprehensible! Probably lots of businesses catering to families and children would be upset. Parents teaching thier children about the value and sacredness of thier bodies, and the inappropriateness of nudity in the presence of strangers...teaching them that there are yucky people out there who don't have "love in their hearts" (words I use with my small daughter) who may want to hurt them....and then there you are. On the street....grown women in their underware. Whatever! A person who doesn't get the inappropriate message we send to our children when we allow such behavior is senseless to say the least. We complain about sex offenders and child rapists....and yet...our actions speak louder than words. I'm not by any means saying that naked women produce child molesters, but I am saying that we send a message to children when we have people in the market place in their underware. If it is okay for these beautiful, smart women, then it must be okay for me. Sometimes we need to put two and two together. I wouldn't take my children to that business district.

Saw a few Live Lingerie Models shops in the downtown areas in Europe. A friend runs an Lingerie Shop in Tampa, we considered a co-ownership and place the same shop in my community, however after researching community standard laws, I would be probably never get any permit to have such business...the closest thing to lingrie shops in this community, its a Victoria's Secret.

Lord be with you! I guess we also send the wrong message by sitting on a beach in a bikini...BTW..They also model Bridal apparel

They look cute to me, & it doesn't look tacky tacky. Here in Oakland, we have metastisizing beauty supply stores, one of which popped up in a nice shopping district, complete with video weave demos in the windows, which are plastered with giant screaming neon prices. Now that's tacky!

Which shift are the male models on?

Righty Tighty,
It certainly does appear that you are in fact wound a little too tight!! These models are not naked as you describe, they are modeling lingerie which the store sells. There is a market for it (Victoria's Secret), which can be found in almost every mall across the country. Maybe you should keep your children locked at home, turn off the TV, and stop sending them to school as these are also places that they may be faced with reprehensible behavior!!

"Yes, selfish! Yes, morally reprehensible!" Wholy f ing H christ Get a life righty tighty. You see more skin every day in the movies, the crappy "video games" that teach kids that violence is accpetable. You are utterly amazing , and the one aspect of the Republican party that I abhor.

First they arent showing much. They all have their drawers on dont they?
Second the Victoria's Secret store in Tyson's Corner, McLean,Va. got in trouble with some real raunchy displays recently. They had to back down some and tone it down. But they had some super hot displays. But not real women. Still any Victoria's Secret window I have ever seen is way raunchier than that photo which is really tame.
From the smile on their faces the young women enjoy doing it and showing their stuff.
Only objectins would be from old women who no longer look good. They are always jealous of good looking young women. Some mothers would find it offensive but they can smile and wave and tell their little children the women are waiting for Santa.

Good lord, i can see more around the community pool than you can in that window. Please righty, loosen that top button you need to get a little more air to your brain.

WHAT!?!
Righty-Tighty,
What an appropriate name you have. What a terrible example these girls are setting for your daughter by A) having a job and B) having fun while earning money as any young person should. I'll tell you what is senseless is you teaching your daughter that this is sinful. Its lingerie, lots of women wear it. Its a business and someone being creative trying to be successful and capitalize in our free, open market, capitalist society, all great lessons to teach your daughter if you wanted to focus on that. But no, you'll teach your daughter about those damn sinners. Please!

I hope the Earth Liberatin Front doesn't get involved and paint the window green.
Cindi---you did a slam dunk again (on the 'XXX' reference). Wish I could think that quickly.

Letz see now. It was Augusta, Maine in late November. What? 18 degrees F? It needs to be righty tighty. There are a few loose screws there. Parading around in your underwear at those temperatures. Aye-yuh.

Laughing here...I know Augusta very well...and I cannot imagine those Mainahs going for this...it surely gave many of the stiff necked ladies royal heartburn!

My goodness, these girls are more dressed than the mannequins at the Victoria Secret stores in the mall... I would rather see these girls than have the commercials for erectile dysfunction, condoms and tampons...Try explaining those to your 6 yr old!
At least the marketing ploy worked..it got attention for the business and we are all talking about it!

Okay- For all those on "attack-mode"...that is precisely why I used the name. Of course being naked, or partially clothed in public, or wearing a swimming suit isn't "sin"!!! Who said that anyway??? Of course there is nothing wrong with lingere, I BELIEVE IN LINGERE! Of course there is a market for it.....no one said there wasn't. But there is a reason it is called "INTIMATE apparel". Just because something isn't illegal, doesn't mean it is smart.
If the Pope stood to address the catholic church in a speedo, he wouldn't go to HELL, but is it sending the right message? Is it sin for him to wear a speedo (I think speedo's should be a sin, especially on the older folk : )? No. But is it very wise? Swimsuits are appropriate at the beach, but are they appropriate at the office??? I dare you to wear one and see how many coworkers aren't annoyed/GROSSED OUT/or whatever the case may be (even if you are a hottie)!!!
I know you are going to say, "this isn't the same thing", but it is. Undergarments are not appropriate for sporting in public. Nor is being naked. In your bedroom with the one you love, yes, but at the local Starbucks, or Barnes and Noble, NO!!! It sends the wrong message.
Posted by: Righty-Tighty | Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at 01:25 PM
but they are not at the local Starbucks or Barnes and Noble are they? No, they are in the window of a store selling what they are wearing. My point is you call it "selfish" and "morally reprehensible" and I am asking why? You reference the "inappropriateness of nudity in the presence of strangers" and I ask what nudity? You reference "teaching them that there are yucky people out there who don't have "love in their hearts" . . . and I ask what does that have to do with a few teens sporting some lingerie in a store window . . . why are they "yucky people"? You should think of these things before presenting them as an example to your daughter because some day she will be asking these same questions of you.
And by the way, the examples you present . . ARE NOT THE SAME THING . . . which you recognize yourself before wrongly claiming that they are.
Posted by: Scott | Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at 03:13 PM
Scott- are there "yucky people out there who ...may want to hurt them...." (them, being children)?
So... what is the problem with letting young children know that not everyone who watches a child innocently run around in their underware has "love in their heart"?
I did NOT call the store owners "yucky people" nor the models. But IMHO, it is irresponsible.
And Scott...unless you did not read the original story, a local shop owner used the words "selfish", and "morally reprehensible". I should have used quotations.

I don't think that helps to sell the product. What's the marketing angle?

i need a loving woman
Posted by: stanley | Monday, December 19, 2005 at 05:39 AM
Well I'm quite against it, just because It's unfair tactics against men. Men have a weakness for a hottie. That's bad enough. We spend $40+ on a meal for 2 just to impress her on a date. Now in a mall I would feel like one of those guys who look around in a video store just before they go behind the black curtain to see if anyone is watching. I would feel this way because if I look and get caught looking, the women around me think I'm a pervert, if I don't look, I'm called a prude! If I walk in the store, God forbid, maybe a cross dresser? I don't know. If I were a woman, seeing that wouldn't want to make me buy it unless I had similar bodies and there aren't a whole lot of women who have bodies like those models. It's a very select market if they are truly trying to sell with this ploy. I think it is just to get the attention of the media, AND it's not fair to men!

It seems to me, from the pictures anyway, they are not revealing anything more than a bathing suit would show. I just don’t get it. The media gets 500k-1 million dollar fines for a “indecent material”, yet these mining companies get a max fine of 60k often reduced to 1-10k for life threatening safety violations. We obviously have our priorities confused.
