Why the hell were they doing this in the first place? Isn't that insane? Is this going on everywhere?
California taxpayers will no longer help pay the cost of impotency drugs for registered sex offenders under legislation signed Tuesday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It looks like those sex-offenders somehow qualify for Medicaid in Cali. Must be paradise. No wonder so many end up there. Many states don't allow Medicade or any type of welfare for those who have been convicted of a felony.

Only in Cali...

It's the medication that is disallowed. Anyone who's worked and eligible for Social Security is thus eligible for Medicare & Medicaid, the State's assitance (the latter income-dependent). Same goes for anyone qualifying for State financial need benefits.

Sorry, folks, this time it's not "only in California." The Feds have been doing this all along as being in line a so-called health care provision. Some politico on the East coast publicized the questionable practice about three months ago and when it hit the papers, got a lot of public attention. Certainly seems weird. Another point that was made concerning the impotency drugs is that legislation is about to be proposed to discontinue senior citizens from getting the 'sex' drugs. The East coast congressman blowing the whistle states: "why should we (the American taxpayer) be paying for grandpa and grandma to have sex?"

hobo ...
If ANYBODY needs impotency drugs it's the 'seasoned' citizens. Keeps 'em busy and that way they won't bother everybody else.

Yeah. Contrary to the prevailing stereotype, mixed nuts and fruit baskets aside, California was the first to ban this practice. On the forefront again, lol. You need to pedal 'forward' if you want to keep up. Back pedal at your own risk, red states.

Sorry about the obvious anger in my previous post, Riehlworlders. I am usually quite tolerant of the digs made against my state but today my sense of humor is eclipsed by a personal crisis. I haven't done it before but a feel a rant coming on, and my usual sense of decorum and fair play be damned. Ban me, Dan please and put me out of my misery.
After working in my profession for over 25 years, I am fortunate to have started my own business 3 years ago. Keeping my health insurance coverage through the Federal programs since then has been a total nightmare and today my policy has been cancelled. I have tried to get a private policy thru both BlueCross and Blue Shield and was turned down by both. I have done yoga for 25 years, I'm 5'6" 120 #'s and 50 years old but look 35. And I have skin cancer. This is the real world, can we talk about real issues? For $700/mo. I can get a "high risk" policy. That's what "they" want me to do.
Healthcare in America - For it or against it?
So ha ha ha. It ain't funny when it happens to you. When you slam MY state you are treading on one of the few things I am proud of in our country right now. We enact laws legally only to have the Feds undermine them at every opportunity. To use a typical argument voiced here, on this blog, and in many high schools thru-out history "Y'all are just jealous." Nah, nah, nah.
Politically correct - that's another topic/label I'd like to discuss some day, but not today. Stop marginalizing liberals as hairy freaks and childish dreamers, too. I am really sick of it.... I'm done.

SEX OFFENDERS SHOULD ALL BE CASTRATED (ASSUMING THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT) THEY'VE LOST THE RIGHT AND THE PRIVILAGE TO USE WHAT THEY WERE BORN WITH BECAUSE THEY'VE ABUSED IT AND HURT OTHERS IN DOING SO. LET THEM EXCRETE THROUGH A TUBE FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES SO THEY CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE ABUSED VIOLATED.

news flash..to those who do not know...medicaid has always paid for viagra and never paid for birth control pills..
go figure.
Posted by: farmgirl | Thursday, October 06, 2005 at 11:29 AM
i'm with ya, farmgirl. "we'll give you the drugs that will promote sexual activity, but then we'll shy away from those than prevent pregnancy." ED drugs may eventually become over-the-counter meds, but birth control and fermale fertility meds will forever cost women a small fortune.
i don't get it either.
is ED considered a disability? on some medical insurance books, female infertility is, but medical coverage runs out almost immediately after the first round of treatments.
the fact that medicaid covers ED drugs is curious. i mean, isn't 90% of sex recreational? especially if the medicaid recipients are senior citizens. viagra is not a drug that will lower the blood pressure, drop the cholesterol count, or thin the blood of a 65 year old.
here's a thought, what would happen if ED drugs suddenly get lumped in w/infertility drugs?

Insurance definitions should be updated. Impotence is as much a health problem as a new breakout of cholera. It's an early sign of heart disease and in some cultures it is believed that curing a problematic penis will cure the man's other health problems.
