Men in sandals. They should be incarcerated. Even if they're European - especially if they're Eurpopean men in sandals - they should be incarcerated. These men are dangerous. There is something inherently wrong with men in sandals.
There are three good reasons for this:
1. They have been asleep for forty years and cannot possibly adjust to contemporary society - consequently they are clearly dangerous, probably anti-social and they need to be incarcerated.
2. They have foot issues, most likely nasty and incurable foot issues. Openly sharing one's nasty and incurable foot issues is vile and unnecessary in an age of pharmaceuticals. Not only dangerous, it's right up there with second hand smoke. Men with foot issues in sandals should be incarcerated - whatever their nationality.
3. I can't quite put my finger on it. In fact, I wouldn't ever want to put my finger on it; sometimes comical, I'll admit. But, mostly, they're repulsive - these men in sandals.
Some men in sandals wear socks.
They should be shot.
Dead.
Dead men in sandals ... now that's funny.
Bumped - Update: Posted this before I think. But my feet are enshrined in the blogosphere, along with many others.

ROFLMAO!!!! Dan - I have to agree with you on this. I have always been, well, really grossed out by men's feet in sandals; it's good to have a man share the same opinion publicly. #:>

Hey...I thought we discussed scandals....not sandals!
Now, I tend to see things a bit differently.
IMO there is nothing wrong with a good pair of Tevas, and one can look quite manly...and European at the same time. Even socks, can go well with a nice pair of Tevas.
It's the birkenstock crowd that needs to be herded up!

I had you pegged for a sandal guy NAHW. I'm keeping a close eye on you.
Posted by: Dan | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 08:28 PM
There it is!! I'm not crazy after all. My kids try to get me to wear the things and I refuse. It just ain't manly.

Birkenstock is "in" right now in Europe ! No socks PLEASE !
Quote " There is something inherently wrong with men in sandals ".
I wonder what women think about this issue ?
Most men think that wearing sandals make them look like they are gays .. I think men who gets pedicure are not luxury- actually it is rather sexy .. if they can show it - EVEN better !

OMG!This just cracks me up!I thought I was the only person in the world grossed out by men in sandals.
But,they are everywhere!Men in Birkenstocks and little dainty Reefs at the beach.
I actually saw online that someone has now manufactured trendy socks so men can wear flipflops in the winter time.
Dan,you've been ticking me off of late, but you are the man!!!!!!!!!
Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What color are the socks?
Posted by: callmeBetty | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 09:05 PM
Birki's: Heidi Klum has no business in the thread. The woman can make muckalucks look sexy.
Also the words sexy, men and sandals should never be used in the same sentence
Posted by: Rick | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 09:06 PM
what kind of men and what kind of sandals are we talking about anyway ???
Are you afraid to show your feet ?
Posted by: birki's | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 09:11 PM
Geeesh! I don't believe it! Men look very nice in sandals! Why shouldn't they dress comfortable?
How old are you men anyway!!
The first man I heard of wearing sandals is a man named Jesus and His apostles.

Posted by: GrannyToad | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 09:31 PM
Tevas are nice because the water runs out. Soggy socks suck.
I also like men in skirrts. Well - so long as they'rrre playds.

No Granny...please...not the evil Granny eye!
I think Birks are sexy on Grannies.....
It's the Birkenstock wearing Dudes that need to be herded up....unless of course they're wearing kilts, in which case birkenstocks are ok.
But, remember fellas...no white soxs with those Birks and Kilts after Robbie Burns day!
Posted by: Not a Hand Wringer | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 09:40 PM
White socks...... Shoot 'em.
Black socks...... Life sentence wearing polyester shorts, to be followed 24/7 by a non-stop soundtrack of the Muzak version Greatest Hits of Lawrence Welk, Berry Manilow, Wayne Newton and Liberachi.

I forgot, Dan (Can I call you Dan ?)
The Medina model (from Birkenstock) would be perfect for you !
Posted by: birki's | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 09:57 PM
Oh Helen please. OK, if we were all in the 3rd century BC and had no other choices available. We'd all look good in Sandals...I'd have to be a Centurian though, because I have the legs for a short skirt. I might even look hot wearing sandals with a speedo!!! GAWD!, I'll turn myself in to the fashion police for that visual.
We are probably old enough......not to appreciate sandals or men getting pedicures....Though I am very thankful that you ladies go to the trouble you do.
Posted by: Rick | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 09:59 PM
Dan, using my special foot analysis machine, that I've just designed as a law enforcement tool...
I've compared the size of your feet, to the circumference of the Corona, and the length of your cigarette filter...
Ok...I'm plugging all the data in now...
Hang on....I should have results soon...
Just a minute, I'm getting the results translated...
Yes...that's it.
Dan, you are 3'7" tall.

The laces on gillies cut into m'legs. That's why those men in skirts like BirksXXXX wear socks.

Oh and Helen.you could be from Troy and be kidnapped and we'd launch a thousand ships and build a big giant horse to come save you.

I hate whatever you guys call in this country "Burkenstocks" (?)
Your hippies started that "siht"! and you're affecting Europe!
There's got to be "ellegance" in this world! and "sandals" are only appropirate at Beach or Resort! Yah!
What is happening to America?
- you buy Opera Season Tickets - you're called an "elitist".
- you spend you Sundays in a Museum - you're called a "snob".
- you demand that PEOPLE DRESS APPROPRIATELY and relative to the OCCASION - you're called a Euro-trash.....
I am sick and tired of "hip hop getto pimppy get up".
I am sick and tired of "new age" a la ancient India or Thibeth crappy draggy "HariChrisna" clothes.....
In a rich America, why can't people wear proper clothes, NOT BLIMEY DROOPY PANTS LIKE IN A GHETTO...
No, girls should not ruine their bodies in stilletto hills, TO BE LOVED BY A MAN...... But there is Blimey scence of personal aesthetics! Wear the friggin flat shoes....... well designed shoes....... Not frigging "tennis shoes with business suite".
And yes! going to an Opera is better than going to a "hip hop trash dance!"....... And yes! being a Nuclear Scientist is better than being a Truck Driver....... Hallo!
America is going to loose out for trying so friggin hard being a "Classless society"...
That's how you get "men in Burkenstocks", who "bow their heads" to anything that is said by a "woman"......... We, women are great! But so are men! You don't have to cut men's balls to be "great"..... And enjoy their "sandals".
There is a wonderful street in Rome, right next to Spanish steps, called Via Condotti....... has the best shoes.....
Oh, and then there is Florence....... too many streets to name, where there are shops with great shoes.... not even custome made...
And then there is Menorca....... great island with many shoe factories....
Use a bit of immagination, travel, and seek out beautiful things........ it only helps!
Live a little! Don't be so stuck on "American social equality"....... It's OK TO BE ELITIST AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR APPEARANCE AND MIND!
Not to catch a "partner"! For your OWN SELF!
Posted by: MoscowGirl | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 10:33 PM
Rick, what a kind thing for you to do! I'm sure to recognize you in your "skirt" and sandals!
Posted by: Helen | Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 10:35 PM
Never in my life did I think I would ever be looking at people's feet online...ewwwwwww.
BTW, Dan, your feet indicate that you have poor circulation, maybe they should give up smoking..heh.

Am female, in North Florida. Guys in their late teens and 20s wear sandals here year round, except maybe in the Jan -Feb when it is a bit cold for them. Most of them wear the thong type. They wear shorts year round too, sometimes even with jackets. Not as frequently worn routinely by guys older than that, but why not unless their feet aren't healthy looking?
In last year or two, has been taking over as more popular than tennis or other leather confined shoes, unless the activity demands a structured shoe. My son, 23 yr old., just bought some new leather Reefs - ridiculous price of $43.97 - just for a thong like sandal that looks like flip flops. He looks fine in them and his feet healthy looking. His girlfriend has some that are similar that she wears regularly too. Hey, I wear them all the time after work hours too.
Socks do not go with sandals. Yuck! Feet like the fresh air. Most foot problems - skin problems and aching/pain or bunions/ callouses / corns are caused by shoes. If you wear sandals a lot, you don't have those problems.

uhhh, this post is just a tad embarrassing so alot of people have made it out to be.
Men in Sandles...hmmmm
WHO GIVES A FLYING F?
The worst is the male sandle wearing idiots that think they have to wear black or white socks up to their freakin' knee's inside of their sandles. It's the tacky tourist image with the flamboyant flower hawaiian shirt that is the real problem with males wearing sandles.

That's one of the funniest posts I've seen in awhile Dan.
I'll send my girlfriend over here - she goes OFF on this subject.

Well Dan, I've been in the UK for the past month and I can confirm that the proper british gentry are not exposing their feeties in sandals!

Rut-Roh. My husband is from Germany (where Birkenstocks originated), and wears Birkens WITH socks in the winter, without them in the summer. I don't care what he wears, as long as he is happy. The thing that makes me laugh about him is that he laughs at Americans in white socks. Especially the long ones to the knees. Apparently, in Europe, socks for men are short and in coordinating colors for the clothes they wear each day. He has searched for these socks in America and can't find them (maybe there is a reason for this!). He has friends send him socks from back home...it's a sad state of affairs!

Ewwwww Dan . . . your feet don't do you any justice whatsoever, and I thank you for having the common sense to keep them under cover (roflmao!) However, you do have good taste in beer. Cheers!

Heidi Klum, supermodel and wife of singing sensation Seal is now an international footwear designer too. Heidi Klum has recently finished her 3rd footwear collection for Birkenstock. This collection, according to Birkenstock, is her most glamorous take on Birkenstock sandals to date and includes:
Madrid “Diamond” feature metallic grained leather uppers in gold or silver appliqued with rhinestones and crystal hearts.
“Saphire”, Heidi‘s two-strap sandal features two-tone metallic leather uppers, adorned with rivets and rhinestones. This style is available in three colour combinations: gold/silver, pink/silver and green/blue.
All sandals had their traditional cork-latex footbed covered in matching metallic leathers and come with a silver plated Heidi Klum pendant.
An objective on-looker might deduce that Birkenstock are moving away from their traditional “eco-conscious” and “green” customer base and are attempting to woo a new affluent and trendy customer who would easily empathise with the glamourous profile and, indeed, lifestyle of Heidi Klum and Seal. Let’s face it, the traditional Birkenstock customer has probably never even heard of Heidi Klum and is more likely to empathise with Ghandi or St Francis. So is this a conscious decision by Birkenstock to move away from their traditional “carrot-crunching” customer base or are they simply attempting to be all things to all people? The latter is perhaps the more plausible answer and who can blame them for wanting to achieve global dominance just like every other high-profile brand.
Nonetheless, part of us all longs for a brand free from celebrity and stardom, a brand pure, free and simple — a brand reminiscent of the “hippie” era. Birkenstock used to be that brand. Maybe a new celebrity-free “Brand Messiah” will come forward and fill the void — suggestions in writing please.
