Did you ever want to just grab an attorney by the face and squeeeze? I bet a few reporters did, today.
NBC 12 When Richmond Police searched the amateur photographer’s apartment last month they didn’t find any guns, just a 32-caliber cartridge. Sources say it was around the same time two of Fawley’s guns were dropped off at the police department by a lawyer, leading to a charge against Fawley of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to sources, Fawley turned the guns over to his lawyer, Chris Collins. Collins has said he knew his client was a convicted felon and therefore would gave known Fawley shouldn’t have them. But, sources say Collins didn’t turn the guns over to police. Instead they say he handed them to another Richmond lawyer, David Baugh.
Those sources also tell NBC12 that Baugh dropped off the guns to police without an explanation. NBC12 does not know whether Baugh was aware of where the guns came from or why Collins had them.
NBC12 stopped by Chris Collins’ office for an explanation, but we’re told he is out of town and can’t be reached. So, NBC12 asked Baugh if he received any guns from Collins. Baugh says, “I will follow the ethical rules and the law and not answer that. I’m sorry.”
NBC12 asked Baugh: “Can you say whether you turned over any guns to the police department in the last month?” Baugh replied: “I couldn’t make that statement either.”
Richmond Police won’t comment on the series of events that lead to the gun charge against Fawley and say they still don’t know how Virginia Commonwealth University freshman Taylor Behl died.

I think I quadriplicated once. Man, I hope my mom doesn't find out.
Good point about the attorneys, but I still think he could have tossed the damn things unseen. And how do you retrieve from a hydraulic without getting killed?

I am pissed at these lawyers because the offense date on these gun charges was 8/9/05. We don't know how police found out they belonged to BF.
If Baugh just walked in the police station and dropped off the guns with NO explanation, they may have run them for fingerprints and BAM, there is BF.
If Baugh had said these are BF, he would have been picked up and Taylor would be alive. It is the date 8/9/05 that makes me mad.

Where did you get the date for the gun charges.

You may have to restart the application on this.
Pick Richmond General District Court.
Key his name in as Fawley, B
the offense date is 8/9/05

Thanks, interesting stuff in there. Put Ben Fawley in first and got the Benvenutos, etc. - one guy had a fugitive warrant for a drunk in public. Amazing.
At least it looks like they have now him locked up until December when they have the preliminary hearing.
Very odd - don't know what to make of this. Supposedly, Fawley gave the gun to Collins who passed it on to Baugh who gave it to the police, when any of this happened we don't know. Impression had been that Fawley came up to Collins after September 5 and asked for pro bono help. Possibly, Collins got the gun sometime after September 5 and Ben said he obtained the gun on 8/9/05.
Why did Ben turn it in? Knew that someone would tell LE he had a gun. If he was innocent in using the gun in a big felony (most certainly), better to have the gun show up than being suspected of using it if a body is never found. No body, no gun adds to a circumstantial case. Five years for possession is better than life or death in a circumstantial murder case, plus there is always the possibility of beating the possession charge.
Problems with turning in gun - one bullet found. Body doesn't show gunshot - turned gun in for nothing, but could still beat possession possibly - but he has covered himself if body not found. Interestingly, one bullet found. Where can you buy one bullet? This is something that ties him to the gun - probably found under bed or couch where the cleaning man Ben missed it. What happened to the rest of the bullets, probably in the hydraulic.

The area he lived in, he could have just found it on the street.

True enough, but no one made him pick it up.
Posted by: bull | Friday, October 14, 2005 at 01:41 PM
That was a joke... I had to pay 18.00 for bullets for my .380 and that was just enought for self protection.
If he was ever in a shooting range, he might not have used all of his bullets. They don't check to see if you are a felon when you buy ammo.

Who heard of the high speed chase in Chesterfield this morning? I was caught iup in that mess. I have never seen so many cops in my life. I thought a cop had been shot.

Well, I could say mine was a joke, but unfortunately I'm at my crimefighting best right now and extremely focused. Is Chesterfield where they made the old cigarette?
Posted by: bull | Friday, October 14, 2005 at 02:36 PM
Chesterfield is just outside of Richmond. My zip code makes me Richmond but I live in the county of Chesterfield. :) I don't think they made those here. Philip Morris is here.

High speed chase. I was there but it was dark when I came to work and those blue lights were awsome.

Remind me not to vote for this scumbag for anything, ever.
People who blame gov't for terrorism are like people who blame women for getting raped because they were wearing red lipstick. ARGHGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
OK now I am physically ill, sorry....

Yeah, he is one of Richmond's high profile lawyers. Most of his clients are drug dealers that carry guns. :)

Richmond has a rich history of outstanding legal scholars and city leaders. El Amin, Morrisey, Chuck, and about any councilman are beacons of honesty and level headed thought. Maybe King Doug can staighten things out.

Great Richmond Lawyer and my hero:
Oliver Hill, who argued and won Brown v. Board of Education

>>Should have known David Baugh's name would be in this one day. The scum bags lawyer of Richmond. I hope what he and Collins did was illegal and Taylor's family sues the crap out of them.
BF would have been in prison for 5 years for that one. I don't know if it would have been 10 for having 2 guns being a felon.
Maybe Morchower will step in next.
Call them what you want, but they are all v. good at what they do. If I was ever in jail, these are among the top 5 lawyers I'd call for help. They win. They are v. well respected in the legal committee. And David Baugh gives A LOT of money and time to charity.

Clarifications... The Disappearance of Taylor Behl... And Some Breaking News...
UPDATE, BREAKING NEWS, 6:07 p.m., 10/14/05
Ben Fawley has apparently admitted to Taylor Behl dying during "rough sex." My thanks to a reader from the area for the heads-up. Here is the story, from NBC4.com -- Photographer Tells Police Story About Taylor Behl's Death. From the story:
On the day of Taylor Behl's funeral, sources tell News4 that Richmond amateur photographer Ben Fawley is talking.
Sources said Fawley has told investigators a story about how Behl died. Fawley has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in the disappearance and death of the 17-year-old from Vienna.
Investigators aren't commenting on the specifics of the conversation but are said to be checking out Fawley's version of the story...
Ben is claiming, according to what I'm told was broadcast on-air in a local newscast, that he drove out to Mathews County with Taylor Behl, they had sex again, and it got so rough she died. Recall this entry of mine -- Ben Fawley's IM Screen Names, where I postulated precisely such a scenario.
-----
I think its helpful to know that he's confessed...although we knew he did it all along, but I still feel like theres more to come out that he isn't telling. I have my own theories..but we all do I guess...we'll all just have to wait for more of the story comes to light..rough sex just isn't that settling.
