Grand Jury is meeting today. The gag order is in place, police chief claiming it will help them in building a stronger case. Channel 8 has some info on Fawley.
It was back in May of this year that Ben Fawley was arrested for trespassing at a former girlfriend's apartment. Her roommate came face to face with Fawley in the middle of the night.
"He came in at 4 o'clock in the morning and decided he wanted to talk to me...he basically wanted to tell me his entire life story...he told me he lived a life a crime...he told me he couldn't know life...he told me how many women he'd slept with...all kinds of random things," Delano said.
"I was scared at the time....he was carrying a hammer and a can of mace...there wasn't much I could do," Jonathan Delano told us.
Delano adds he's not surprised that Fawley is a suspect in the Taylor Behl case. "He was always nutty as far as I could tell."
NBC 10 has a light piece on the computer sleuthing aspects of the case with multiple safety and missing persons links at bottom.

OK, anyone ever seen the movie "Slingblade"? This sounds like a scene right out of the movie, where Karl shows up in the middle of the night in a woman's bedroom --holding a hammer--- wanting to be baptised. "Uhhhh huhhhh. All right 'den."
Frawley thinks he's Karl Childers I guess.

I read a piece, I think by Steve at DS. Erin said, BF was interested in the person she was living with. More like jealous from what I remember.

After reading Steve Huff's entry at Crime Library (Web of Lies)and since returning from Richmond early this week, two things come to mind...
It appears that Fawley hates Richmond and especially VCU as much as he "hates" Erin.
With his acts and his wild tales,he can smear the University, the City, Erin & Taylor with this one act...If a VCU student, from within this City, that he wanted to leave, is "missing', then turns up murdered, what better way to get across a smear campaign against the school & the city.
Heck, if that student is found on Erin's turf then she will be impliceted as well. Then he adds that he was abducted in the 900 block of W Franklin and there you have it, another violent crime to add to "his" list that occur "on the campus".
In researching the crime in Fawley's favorite stomping grounds, for one month prior to his arrest on September 23rd, the neighborhood that encompasses a corner of "The Fan" within & adjacent to the VCU campus, one finds that there were innumerable "break-ins/burglaries arrest. Funny that since his arrest those Burglaries have virtually ceased and as late as this past Friday there has been only one listed on the Richmond Police Incident reports.
Now that is an interseting Fact. Perhaps BF has some explantion for this as well.

that is WAY too looseygoosey for me. What is the study area? What are the boundaries? What are the two periods compared? Comparing summer months to fall months is not valid since the STudents are away in the summer. Burglaries have virtually ceased>? I need cold hard data.
Maybe they update their web page once a month,. Sorry, but there is NO way BF. was responsible for all the burgularies in the Fan? Does Huff realize that the Fan is a super upscale residential neighborhood with milion dollar homes? exactly *which* corner of the Fan is he talking about?

Delano's comments are interesting but why are we just now hearing from people who have known Fawley, "Oh him? Yeah he's a weirdo". When someone is held on suspicion ANY and ALL information someone should be presented to police. Perhaps Delano went to the police with this story, I don't know. But too often we hear about some freak who goes ballistic and later an aquaintance adds,"Come to think of it, that person did chase people around with chainsaws all the time, so when I saw them on the news--I thought I'll bet he killed someone". When the authorities are checking someone out we have a civil responsibility to tell anything we know.

From BF's journal: "I would just leave town, but the day before I was to head to Philly she made sure I couldn't go. Friday thanks to her I now face more problems keeping me here in this suck-ass town. I have a way out of town."
What was Friday? How did he infact plan to get out of town?

I think he was going to take the bus if I remember correctly.

Micah, Delano has been an unofficial and official spokesperson for the Ben is crazy gang since almost the beginning.
Posted by: Heidi | Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 02:59 PM
I slightly remember reading that too, about his plans for leaving being messed up, and I remember something about pics of upnorth mass transit systems, but it could have just been a coinkydink that I found the pics the same time he was talking about running again.
Posted by: Heidi | Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 03:13 PM
When I just said that Ben was planning to run again, it reminded me of my dad who was diagnosed first as manic depressive, then many years later as bi polar. My dad never gets the proper meds, but he is not vicious, he is a zombie when his meds are off, he would not be able to kill a fly, and again he is not violent. Oh hold on, one time his meds were off and he destroyed his apartment, but not a person, that could be constrewed as violent. Anyway I digressed, my dad said that before he was diagnosed that he would hear voices tell him to "Get out, go, leave this place, you gotta go now." He said he did not understand why he had those voices/thoughts, but he said he always listened. He said he heard similar voices that would tell him to drink alcohol. I know he is crazy, but he is brilliant also, he has degree in psychology and he is insane, tragic. His depression is caused by many factors that are similar to Ben's regarding family, abondonment, plus war for my dad, and the old trusty biology.

Somebody stop me before I start to feel compassion and understanding for Ben and his mental illness. When I just made that connection with Ben's behavior and my dad's, I began to humanize him. Which is something I never did before. I would not want my dad to fry for something that happened while he was suffering a mental breakdown due to the meds imbalance. I used to worry that my dad was going to get the deadly beat down because he loves that city bum's life, now I worry about much more.

Heidi, dont feel bad about feeling some compassion for fawley. It makes you human and decent. This monster was made, not born, he started off just like you and me. I doubt he wanted to grow up to be a murderer when he was 8 years old. Somewhere along the road someone missed something and ben was ruined.
He's done horribly wrong now though and must be punished for it. But that doesn't mean we cant feel compassion for what he MAY have become instead.
Posted by: Rick | Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 03:35 PM
Heidi, I am glad to learn that Delano was speaking up all along! The police also have a responsibility to listen when someone comes forward with information. Even info that doesn't seem important can be useful in 'rounding out the picture' of a suspect's history.

I don't think Ben Fawley "hates" or hated VCU or the VCU area. I think he found a niche there. VCU and its community is very tolerant of eccentric people and odd characters. His behavior was consistently bizarre and immoral, but the reaction of people who knew him were like, yeah, whatever. Even the guy whose apartment he showed up in at 4:00 a.m. seemed to be completely unfazed by the incident. I think Ben Fawley fit right in with the population here. He must have liked it, since he created a home base in Richmond. At any rate, Ben Fawley is over. He will NEVER get out of prison, may well get the death penalty. He's one weirdo who will never trouble anyone again.

Hi Cosmic,
Early on in the investigation (I started checking to see if and when either RPD or VCU PD would post an alert re: Taylor Behl MIssing.) I was concerned b/c I knew of the then missing student on Wednesday the 6th, through a relative who works with Janet Pelasara, and I had already notified my child at VCU who by late Thursday had still not received an Alert via email from the campus police.
Upon looking for this alert/data, I (not Steve Huff) came across some 20 Break-ins in a four to five block radius of the Blocks between Belvidiere at Broad, going down to the street right after Ryland, including and over to Floyd/Monument and back down toward Belvidiere.
That was in the days between September 1st (Students back) and September 23rd the day he was arrested. Since the 23rd, in that same small area there has been one reported Burglary in that same very small but specific area.
The crimes someone posted above are not in that specific area.
