Someone accused me of being insensitive for laughing at this fellow's story. I'm witholding comment on this genuine AP headline for now.

Hmmm, looks like someone skipped class the week they were teaching "politically correct phrases to use when writing headlines." I'm guessing they're already out looking for a new job today.

The writer, Angela K. Brown, is as dumb as the day is long, bless her little heart!

Like raising children, sometimes you just have to laugh. We had a friend growing up, his name was/is Karl, not sure if he is still alive. He would hang out with about 15 of us on any given night. Karl was funny, sometimes he had more worth while to say than any other person in the group, of course Karl didn't drink. We laughed, he laughed. When any event was going on, hay rides, concerts, we always included Karl. Not because we liked to laugh at him, but because he made us laugh. My daughters had a player on their softball team when they were younger, she was mentally handicapped. She was one of the neatest kids I have ever met, she said what was on her mind and usually it was right on the money. And yes, we laughed, not at her, but with her. Even if she didn't know the difference. There is humor to be found in almost any walk of life, those that miss that humor are the ones missing out.

I have experience first hand tutoring an autistic child, so believe me I understand that very well. So don't judge me here, please. But again, Dan, I laughed out loud at the headline. It could have been referring to some of the other hurricane victims I saw tearing up the place on TV. Feeling guilty for doing so, but still laughing.

I won't even apologize up-front for being politically incorrect. Forget that. My first image reading this headline was of a bunch of really happy people making an on-foot hike, all holding hands from Louisiana to Texas - that they finally found refuge from the storm - as Bob Dylan says. Why is this headline coming out now? Did it take them that long to hike there? Sheeesh... One thing is for sure, being retarded was hardly a handicap in this catastrophe. I imagine those in touch with reality wished their minds somewhere else when this storm wiped out everything that was real to them. Sorry, but reading the first couple of paragraphs of the article: "It's lunchtime, it's lunchtime!" .... ah, to be so blissful. "It's LUNCHTIME!" hahaha.
Meanwhile, back at the levee: "Hey, where's my house?!"
