Looks like New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin may have some more explaing to do. It appears some pictures seem to indicate public buses were used to evacuate people from New Orleans - 48 hours too late.
Is this the deal where they couldn't get people to show up for work pre-Katrina I remember hearing about? If so, it sounds like maybe he should lay off those 3,000 people he's talking about - and start with the bus drivers.

Thanks for sharing that, Dan. I hope you'll forward that entire piece to several proper authorities when the inevitable Katrina-gate hearings start. I think Nagin needs to put his own name on the list of people who will have to get laid off from their jobs. He doesn't deserve to keep his position. Slightly off topic here, but speaking of Nagin, has anyone ever heard his explanation of why he bought a house in Dallas and moved his family into it after Katrina? Why not move them to Baton Rouge or some other Louisiana city? Wouldn't that have been a shorter commute for him? Just curious...

From all I have read about New Orleans I woudl nto balme all of the people if they simply just came back and got what they could salvage from their homes and just leave for good never to return.
If I had been given the choice thats exactly what I woudl have done when Hurricane Dennis caused all the flooding of homes in Atlanta where I live including mine. (14 inches of water and mud and scum all in my home. ) Instead since it was nto a total loss, I continue to clean and throw away things. All the repairs are still going on. New floors new cabinets in the kitchen, new sheetrock. Mole everywhere having to be treated and Desk and office chairs and furniture in the family room and sewing room and I coudl go on and on. All rooms having to painted and it just goes on and on. Every week when the trash man comes by I know he must hate stopping here to pick up more stuff.
I never asked for this and never even knew I livd in a flood prone area for 17 years. Why I keep asking. Why did I not know. Do you think for one moment I woudl live in an area that coudl be flooded one and subject myself to this horror. Hell no. Those people in New Orleans knew is what I cannot understand.
In my case, who should tell you when an area is remapped by Fema. In 1989 it was nto a flood zone. I found out that in 1992 it was remapped and I was never ever told. I am still fuming and will not stop til I find out "why" I never knew.
On top of it all the county promised help in the clean up and not one person has called or come by. Almost 3 months later and I am still cleaning up. I am not physically abel to do all this by myself and my husband is disabled.
Sorry for the long post but I had to vent !!

Did it take anyone this long to figure out that Nagin is a idiot? What about Gov. Boo-Hoo? It was obvious from the very beginning that these two were completely incompetent to fulfill their duties.
