With voting scheduled to take place during the daylight hours, yesterday's attack on the Iraq power grid shouldn't have a major impact on the election. From all reports, there is solid optimism that Iraq will adopt a Constitution this week, as a precursor to additional elections over the winter.
At the same time, the NY Times is claiming that according to Administration sources, American military units have been taking the fight against the terrorists right up to the Syrian border and possibly beyond.
The President is said to be considering a strategy which would see us making incursions, or raids, over and back across the border in an effort to curtail the influx of men and materials in support of the terrorists. Steel has the deal.

What an idiot. We just cannot go romping around like cowboys in other nations territory when we want, and not expect a response. Bush's military capacity seems to be willing to risk war with Iran, Syria and anybody else when we haven't even gotten Afghanistan or Iraq controlled.
Some soldiers are on their third tour, and yet, no groundswell of additional volunteers from the home front. Seems that ought to give an indication as to our limits of badgering about other nations.
I am well aware Syria is at fault here, for not controlling their own borders, yet, we have to face reality, the middle east is not ever going to be pro-American...it just ain't gonna happen. We do not have the capacity to engage any more nations at this time, with our soldiers spread out in over 40 countries across the globe. So making incursions into another nation's sovereign territory borders on lunacy.
Why doesn't he bring those troops back home, and get them ready to replace those due to come back from Iraq? Why do we need to be in Kosovo and other places? If it is a UN deal there, then let the UN staff it. We are not the UN, and they are not us.

The problem is that the USA keeps telling people what it's doing. You can not fight guerillas with traditional techniques and media coverage. Just go in without nametags and do it.

If the US wants the Syria-Iraq border sealed, the US should muster up a few extra hundred thousand soldiers, stop whining, and do it themselves. Why is this Syria's responsibility?
About droping bombs on small Syrian villages along the border from 50,000 feet... mighty brave.
Considering the fact that Israel once bombed a Syrian radar station [killing Syrian soldiers], shot down Syrian aircraft both in Syrian airspace and in international airspace, bombed a Syrian army base, and buzzed the presidential palace... and all Syria did was complain to the UN... it's a pretty safe bet that a US air assault on Syrian villages will result in... Syria complaining to the UN.
