Thanks to the courts - the problems are starting - and they are starting Nation wide.
Corruption in New Jersey ala an Eminent Domain land grab.
And re-locate the poor and middle class in of Palm Beach County for a new billion-dollar yachting and housing complex.
The genie is out of the bottle. I've heard mixed reports as regards how they wouldbe compensating homeowners. But in Fla especially, aren't any renters out of luck? I get the feeling that money and politics have found the perfect scam thanks to the recent rulings as regards a broadened use of eminent domain. And I'm concerned.

We are all renters and we pay rent in the form of taxes.
Posted by: tester | Thursday, October 06, 2005 at 11:01 AM
Dan, you are right. "Gentrification" has historically been a slow process, but this ruling opens the way for almost instantaneous land grab and mass removal of the poor, the middle class, and renters. :(

Becasue of eminent domain, they're actually taking my neighbor's business away - right here in Jersey, one that he's had forever. He's fighting it and it's costing a fortune (and he's not winning). Very sad.

Trust me, if Washington does not do something fast we will see civil war "Right Here In River City".
My neighbors are angry on all levels. Not just on eminent domain but on all levels.
It will not be too long before the grocery shelves will be baren. The truckers cannot afford the gas and those that can, CAN'T FIND THE GAS. To fill a normal semi is $1000 now.
The railroad ties are destroyed many places on the East-West run and no Amtrak are running from Jacksonville to Los Angeles....and no other trains either. In order to get from Jax to LA you go to WashDC, Chicago, and down to LA.
This winter will be a "killer" in more ways than one with noone being able to afford to be warm.
We are getting hit on the credit card front:
If you have high balances (which many have trying to tide over the high cost of gas, families trying to get by while their loved one is FIGHTING IN IRAQ/MANY FAMILIES HAVE BEEN DESTROYED FINANCIALLY BY THIS WAR with their husbands over there making 1/2 or less than they did in their jobs, and living through the hurricanes because insurance companies are not even showing up so you can even file a claim)....people are hysterical they are so tired from moving from place to place/having lost all sense of center/their things are gone/no money/no security/ you see them a lot here -- and they are ragged and worn. CC companies are raising rates drastically....try 30% FOR NO REASON other than you may be carrying a high balance.
The gas prices are out the roof -- if you can find the gas at all.
The banks are taking a hit because the FALSE housing market for so long last spring and summer looked good - many people "played" at being an investor and got credit from banks for "preconstruction loans" on several condos at beach areas. Well, now nothing is moving NOTHING, can I reepeat that, NOTHING! The hurrcaines have frightened buyers. Now SOMEBODY (take your pick) is holding the cost of the condo that was built, depending on how it was financed, but somebody is going to "eat" the cost of those condos. We have thousands of condo units standing empty and no prospects of being bought in our community.
They are threatening heating will be astronomical so watch there.
We usually have a fall festival here with lots of vendors coming from all over the country ---- many many of them have canceled LACK OF GAS and can't afford the trip.
The jobs are becoming nonexistant
There are no affordable living areas here or anywhere that I've spoken with people around the country.
More people than ever are getting boats and "parking" them out and living on them in "free" water and riding their dingy into shore and going to work. I know those people are dumping effluent into the water------thus more "red tide" than you can ever imagine.
You add all this together plus the fact that we have no INFRASTRUCTURE FOR MEDICINE in our country anymore....well, can you spell DISASTER?
I spoke to a guy from Turkey last night. Many of his friends are moving back to the European side of the world. The country is beautiful. People actually SPEAK to one another. He brought up a good point -- here in the US one has to TAKE themselves somewhere to be WITH people. You TAKE yourself to the mall. You TAKE yourself to the ball game. You TAKE yourself to a bridge party. In the countries over there you can get out and walk and find others walking also --- it is not considered that you are poor or degenerate there!---- (isn't that the truth)...and there is not the feeling of ALONE-NESS there. And I knew exactly what he was talking about. I live in a city and feel like I am alone - no one visits, no one speaks, no one sits outside. When I grew up people would drop in at dinner - sit a spell. It wasn't considered rude to visit or sit and talk. Now people are offended if you even call.
Civil war - take a temperature of the area around you - is it boiling? Take a minute and speak to the person standing in line next to you - if they will speak - and hear them. People are angry.

Oh yeah, one other thing -- did you know they are actually saying these words:
GLOBALISM IS A THING OF THE PAST.
Thank goodness, no more "New World Order" has left the building.
And, forgot to mention, the guy from Turkey shared this fact:
Used to the economy was not stable over in Turkey and parts around. Now other European countries are making contracts etc and the economy is better -- thus also why the people once here are going BACK.
He mentioned in Turkey, you are due HEALTH CARE AND EDUCATION. That is a given. It is free. There may be some minimal cost for college but it is minimal.
He says he can't understand why these things are on a profit-driven track in the United States. You need these 2 things to have a stable citizenry. AND I AGREE. Why are we paying for health care and education?
Turkey is not the only country I have heard that education is free.
His girlfriend is from Bulgaria and is currently in Vienna for 3 months from school.
We are sitting here thinking a degree in soccer is important. Wake up people.

These are but the beginning of things to come. Many of us have been telling people for years that these things were on the horizon. We were called "whack-o's" "conspiracy theorists" and such.
Well, how much is theory now?
The facts are, this nation is being conquered from within because people do not understand who they are, and who THEY are.
When you speak of Eminent Domain the thought is that that term represents "them."
The facts are that YOU and I are the ones with rightful "Eminent Domain."
This is what they are afraid of, is the realization, once again, of who we are as a people.
Evil gravitates to the power positions...always has, and always will. It is "smart business." They ARE STEALING people's homes and busineeses folks. Wake the hell up. Pure, ouright theft. The "law" is on their side? What type of "laws" do you really expect criminals to pass? Do you really think they are going to stand up and laugh in your face about it, or tell you that they are criminals? Get real.
Oh, but they are our government. The hell they are. They are vipers, liars and thieves, stealing the substance right out from under us, and smiling as we willingly comply. Being a member of "government" is not automatic sainthood, nor automatic "ruling class." You want to defend that, go ahead. The idea that you need to be "loyal" to your "government" only holds water when your government is loyal to you. When they act as thieves and steal your substance, you still call them your government?
Eminent domain is yours, it is not theirs. YOU are the most important person in the USA..not he president, not a judge... because collectively we have the riens of power. We just need a further realization of WHO we are, and act upon these facts. And violence is not necessary.
Civil war? Not necessary. DEMAND that they back off and they will. Make no mistake about it...these are crucial times in American history, and what we do or do not do will affect the whole world.
Civil war will not work unless the population regains self-respect, and rekindles the spirit of liberty. So you could take the government over tomorrow, and if the mindset of the nation were the same...then we would be right back where we are right now, in just a short time. It is a mindset, and you will see it from those who choose to remain blind--and it is a choice. They will explain these things away, many times sounding logical, but when we accept the theft of our way of life as "logical" it is just self-excuse. They will attack..which, why wouldn't you expect that? They will use slurs, and names and innuendos...why wouldn't you expect that? They will appeal to your "group" mindset with such things as...the "majority of folks," when that, in fact, is a lie....and so on. Knowing that we don't want to face the "ridicule" of the "group." The hell with the group if it is leading down the road to the end of our way of life.
For the scoffers, who would "explain this away," like so many other events.....do yourself a favor. Go learn of your country, then learn of your enemies and know the difference.

The supreme court who is out to take away all of our rights.
Not only have they stated that Eminent Domain is legal when it is in the best interest of all.
Then in the presidents speech on katrina he states that there be a new New Orleans built and that those who were renting will now be owners.
How did you think that was going to happen?
They plan on taking away all the property from the current owners.
They must purchase the land from the owners true..but what if it is just land value..what if they leverage clean up or demolition costs on the property.
One way or the other land owners loose in this decision.
They have also moved forward on privatization of public water systems.
Stockton California has sold its public water system to a foriegn interest.
Wait until you pay for water like you pay for gas.!!!
Water is a life giving substance.
Water rights are an important issue in the future of our childrens children.

And TheAlamo, you are so right on all fronts. Thanks for writing that.
When people in power are there solely for the power and not to represent the people who elected them, you have what is happening now.
The one thing the POWER grabbers have is, they have us working 2 and 3 jobs a day in order to survive, and we have to use most of our energy just to survive ---
somebody or something needs to thump the common man on the head and say -- you need to look at your priorities. If you have to live with 1 car, no hot water heater, and a wood burning story --- you need to take your land back

__________
Isabell, we practically are doing that now. It's almost "my cardboard box is prettier than your cardboard box."
I have not had any hot water all summer because I had to turn off the gas. I have sweated most of the summer to not turn on the air. I don't eat out and I live in WalMart clothes or clothes from the thrift shop. I haven't had a vacation in 5 years, and my boyfriend just gave me his old car or else I'd be hoofing it as my car was 20 years old and finally died. I need new fillings really badly and I need to see a doctor and can't afford it. My eyes have not been checked in 10 years and I need new glasses.
I'd say I'm pretty much living in the elements.
And yes Dan, it is very hard to rent as there is no property to rent - every landlord sold and moved away. The big interests YATES BUILDERS are building stupid 22-story high rises right on the water on very erosion-prone beach --
even last night I went to the pier and could see there are big "cliffs" on the beach where big chunks of the sand have gone in the last 2 weeks just from minor storms through here. There is no way those high rise condos will survive a direct hit hurricane or a year of beach erosion, I don't care how many $millions of "beach restoration" they pipe in week after week - one storm and it's gone ----it's like they take your tax money and piss it in the ocean. Might as well have anyway.
Sales of little tract houses between the beach road and the next road over have come to a standstill. Why?
Because you can't feel the breeze, you can't see the ocean, you don't even know you are at a beach because the 22-story condos totally and completely block any view or air from the ocean.
The condos are built so close you practically can reach from one to the next.
There is a public beach in front of the condos,,,,,,,but no ACCESS. Which turns the beach basically into PRIVATE beaches for the condos. You can't stop and go the beach anymore -- there is no free space.
Of course nobody is in the condos. The Hispanics are living in the woods and pile 15-20 to houses that do rent to them. They are happy as pie but we are still governed by law of our land and cannot live 15-20 to a home and probably wouldn't want to -- but the law looks the other way where they are concerned.
They have food stamps, free medical care, and they are in line every Friday sending at least 50% or more of their week's wages TO MEXICO. The money is not staying here in the United States. Wal-Mart is making out like a bandit as they are charging out the ying-yang to wire the money.
We are out of gas in Florida -----but get this....there is no shortage of gas in Ga and TN. Spoke to people there today. So why are we, right here in a coastal VACATION town out of gas on a consistent basis and when it is here it's $3.58 and up per gallon? There has no diesal here in weeks! none. They are telling us, "oh your gas comes from Biloxi etc." I said well, what is the problem with reconizing the PROBLEM and diverting sufficient gas to the panhandle of Florida? DEAD SILENCE. Well, of course they know they want to soak the tourists.
I'm so sick of corruption I could puke.

Even that is coming to a crossroads. With the hyperinflation coming from the gasoline lie, two jobs will not be enough. This is why they are trying so hard to eliminate posse comitatus. They are expecting economic collapse, and the chaos that comes along with it, but are threatened by the vastness of the nation, and want the power to use the military to "keep order"---their kind. If the Chinese pull the plug on the dollar...and they will...things will move quite rapidly.
They want the economic collapse so that they can consolidate power and usher in total federal control. Anyone with basic economics can easily give the answers to solving the economic crises, but, of course, you will never hear those answers, and they damned sure will not implement them. With disasters and chaos, comes control, and you speak of the sad things going on right now....this is just the beginning.
Posted by: TheAlamo | Thursday, October 06, 2005 at 05:51 PM
It used to be that a lucky owner would get several times the value of their property from developers. Now, they just work with local officials to take it! Sounds like a good deal for someone.

That is true. The current administration is creating and capitalizing on chaos. We are really on the brink. Our society has become increasingly dysfunctional for decades, our infrastructure sucks, we have NO mass transit, no way to stop our dependence on oil. We also have the best congress and adminstration money can buy...and they have been bought.
I am dreading this winter. We live in Ohio and it's going to be murder with the heating bills. We can barely pay our bills as it is and we also don't eat out, buy new clothes or have any excess expenditures. We live in a sprawling city with the biggest joke of mass transit you'd ever want to see.
The current administration touts ownership but most people in this country can't afford the ownership they are talking about. And what's the point of owning if it can all be taken away?

The best way to fool the people is to let them think they have a voice. This is done by allowing one party to act like it is two. Why do you think they are so afraid of third parties?
The two parties talk differently, but look at the results. These "conservatives" have spent us into oblivion at a rate higher than the "liberals." They have foisted un-constitutional laws on us like the "liberals" could never get away with. How? Hell they talk different, but their deeds reflect who they really are---servants, but not of the people.
Crises is what have feuled the last two presidents' reigns. Waco, Oklahoma City, 9-11, the Chinese glaring over Taiiwan etc. In all of the cases except Taiiwan, constitutionally illegal legislation has been foisted upon us immediately after the "event." But we're "safe" now. Watch and see how "safe" we are.

Most people I know are TOO frightened to even discuss this. I also know many who are so insulated from poverty (right now anyway*) that they have the same attitude that Barbara Bush did to the people in the Astro Dome...you know, the ones "that were doing quite well for themselves." It makes me want to puke. These people don't realize that the poverty that came to light during the flooding of NOLA exists in every central city and in the rural areas. It's not a racial problem either..or a problem necessarily of education.
We have a one party system. Consider Clinton Republican light. Would not vote for that bitch Hillary if you paid me to. She sold her soul a long time ago.
*They won't be doing so well in their suburban monster homes in the former cornfields of Ohio when gas is $5.00 a gallon and their jobs have gone away.
I also know so many former middle class people (including my family) with good educations that cannot find decent work and are slipping into poverty. At this point we live paycheck to paycheck and all it will take is one disaster, like a car breaking down, to be out on the street.
I agree with everything posted here except the Live off the Land statement, which was callous and stupid. There is no land to live off of. Either it has been developed, owned by a megafarm, is a toxic site, or the government owns it.

An addendum.
With the new "don't ask, don't tell" voting machines, it is likely that they will now allow 3rd parties to participate on a wider basis. After all, if you have no record of who you voted for....the outcome cannot be disputed.
So they can afford to let the 3rd parties participate...just to give them "credibility" and, convince the people that it is the "people's choice."
But, hey...our government is honest. Trust 'em!

Alamo you put it together for me - I guess I had been blocking from thinking about it - but even now Bush is moving to use MILITARY POWER in case of emergency or pandemnic -- I guess that's why they are suddenly pushing the "pandemic" buton.
Can't we get them out of Washington before we go under?
Posted by: ustt | Thursday, October 06, 2005 at 10:28 PM
There are still a few good people left, but I don't know if they can forestall this thing. My guess is that there will be a MAJOR terrorist event (nuclear) and that will do it.
Over 90% of FEMA's budget has gone to developing underground facilities for the government officials around D.C. Why?
If you know your history, then you know that things have to speed up now. If they plan a complete destruction of the constitutional process, it will be because of a national emergency. If they slow down now, too many people will catch on. Just look at the things that have occurred just recently..and you can see the timeleine is moving quite rapidly.
They are still afraid of the people. But, can we get them out? Heck, look at how many think there is actually a difference between Clinton and Bush.
The "public" schools have done their job well. Look at what they are getting away with. The people actually cheer when the government knocks out the Bill of Rights. Kruschev was right.

I posted this on a local website also............I am sorry for my lack of knowledge on all this but I have lived in Bloomfield New Jersey my entire 38 year life and own a home here. I do see the value of my home going up and the area looking nice if rich buisnesses came in and fixed it (I have watched the bmw/mercedes crowd driving around the area checking it out). It will of course destroy the lives and famillies of the people who own those buisnesses now and cant really afford to fix the buildings up to our standards. As for the aftermath if we do throw them to the wolves everyone else would do better. The new stores would make more money, homeowners would see value increase, anyone who wants to build a condo would see more profits, and life for us would be better in general. Every one of these things were accomplished by the nazi party and all they had to do was get rid of a few people they didnt like.
