Can you say Canada? I knew that you could. Hopefully it's another strain.
TORONTO (AP) - Nearly three dozen wild ducks have tested positive for the H5 bird flu virus in Canada, officials reported Monday, but they said it was unlikely to be the strain blamed for more than 60 human deaths in Southeast Asia.
Dr. Jim Clark of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said it would take at least a week to determine whether the flu found in 33 ducks from the provinces of Quebec and Manitoba was the deadly H5N1 strain that has ravaged Asian poultry farms.

lovely.

Just in time for Bush to take the lead in the fight. Or at least appear to be interested to diminish the "impression" of last weeeks minor inconveniences.
I wonder how long they have known. The distance from Southeast Asia to Bearing sea is much less than from Southeast Asia to Europe to Americas.
While everyone was all a twitter over Scooter last week international bodies with a real background in scince and medicine made plans for coping with an effect if any. But the US does not take advise from foreigners.
Bush can have a crony handle it. I bet Brownie is staged for comeback.
Oh by the way. A false report of transfer from human to human occured this weekend and a false report of death of young girl last week. Looks like the money and "news" hunt begins.
We are safe if there is no mutation from bird killer to virulent man killer. Thank goodness Bush does not credit evolution. Jsut think what might happen if mutation really occured.

Occasionally mutates?
Rapid evolution of viruses?
Gaddamm pointy-head intellectuals, If we had stopped teaching this "mutation evolution" garbage a decade ago none of this would be happening!
---
"H5N1 is a rapidly-evolving virus easily transmitted across bird populations, fatal to a significant percentage of those infected. It occasionally mutates into a version that can be picked up by humans from infected birds ...giving enough time for a vaccine to be developed that would be effective against that particular strain of Avian Flu (because of the rapid evolution of viruses, useful vaccines can't be prepared before the precise nature of a given strain is known)."

Well, we would - if only you'd learn to speak English. ; )

The US doesn't take advise from it's own. And we speak English :)
