HYANNIS, Mass. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy attempted to rescue six men who had become trapped by high tide on a jetty off Hyannisport on Sunday.
The Massachusetts Democrat eventually left the rescue to Hyannis firefighters, The Cape Cod Times reported Monday.
Kennedy was walking his two dogs on the shore at 11:15 a.m. when he spotted the men cut off from shore by the rising waters. They had been fishing on a jetty that begins at the tip of the Kennedy compound.
Tides had risen over the patchy rocks, which made it difficult to walk back to shore.
Kennedy and a friend tried to rescue the men using a 13-foot boat but rough waters forced them back.
A crew from the Hyannis Fire Department picked them up. The men, in their 20s, were not identified. They were brought to Cape Cod Hospital with mild hypothermia.

"Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment."
I guess he still hasn't learned how to save drowning victims...

I'm sure the survivors will appreciate the glibness of your humor, once they recover.
Whatever anyone thinks of Ed Kennedy, he did get in the boat and try to help despite the fact that someone, somewhere would bring up the semi-obvious parallel of Kopechne-- and I see no mention of a camera crew in tow, sinking the boat.

I came to this site because missing persons interests me and some smart stuff about the Taylor Behl disappearance (back before they found her body) was being said here. There's something kind of ghoulish about this message and the replies. See ya on the other side.

Well, Dan, there ya go...not allowed to blog about stuff that certain people don't approve of. It isn't YOUR blog, after all, or YOUR money that pays for it. Oh, wait. YES IT IS!

Arrrghhh...I broke my own commandment! Never comment on a Ted Kennedy thread without mentioning Mary Jo Kopechne in it!
The article should have read:
"HYANNIS, Mass. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, who killed Mary Jo Kopechne shortly before her 30th birthday in 1969, attempted to rescue six men who had become trapped by high tide on a jetty off Hyannisport on Sunday.

you know the problem is that we have been so serious abut so many things that seeing a half naked picture of ted has pushed some posters over the top. I feel bad that those who have found humor in all of this, after all they ultimately were rescued, are being disparaged as goulish. You see, noone has a sense of humor anymore.

Is that one of those random Marlon Brando sightings?

Say what you want about the guy....he enjoys a heck of a lifestyle.
I wonder if those who grant carte-blance to Beth Holloway because she's lost a daughter, have ever factored in the impact on Ted Kennedy of having two brothers shot and killed.
The man has flaws indeed, but then again...
who doesn't?

I agree we all have flaws, but I doubt if there are any here who have so callously disregarded a human life as he did so many years ago. I lived through the aftermath of that incident and it was deplorable.
Its great he made the attempt to help the people in trouble, but its not newsworthy. IMHO
I personally cannot tolerate the man and disregard anything that he might have to say on any subject. But that is my personal opinion and I don't expect anyone else to follow it.

Maybe Ted could hook up with Laura Bush. But then who would drive?

A very very funny post, Dan. Even though I am liberal, I can still find the humor in this....Jeeez, he really should not go without a shirt...not a good look for him.
Say what you will about TK, and the entire K Clan, however, let us not forget that he did try to rescue these poor folks and that is admirable. Additionally, he has dedicated his life to public service.....and there is nobility in that no matter which side of the fence you're on.

I fail to find the humour in this. Someone going beyond the call of duty to help out rescueing some boaters. Shame on him! How dare he have humanity in his heart!
I wonder if it would have been even funnier if the boaters would have went into the ocean, smashed up against the rocks and died? Would you all still be laughing and posting private pictures, while making a mockery of the situation.

Is that a woman in a turban with Ted?
Actually that's a fortune teller advising Ted what to ask "Harriet M" at the Senate Hearings. Ted wants to know if it's OK to ask her views on cronie-ism.....(of course that's likely to be in front of the court.. so I'm sure she'll decline to reply, siting the "Ginsberg" doctrine....)
