Hey, I can be as open minded as the next guy ... okay, maybe not the next guy. But certainly the guy next to him.
But I have also experienced some of what our schools are putting out these days when I try to hire folks, which applies to colleges, even more so than high schools for me.
So, why on earth are we teaching this below in our grade schools when we should be concentrating on Math, Science and American history first, at least in preparation for learning more of the broader world as we grow?
Do we really need to be teaching American children how to be good muslims in our schools? I thought that was a religion? WTF?
Sorry, this just ticks me the hell off.

You have got to be kidding me. This is going way to far. It's disgusting.

Logic & the fallacies about 5th grade wouldn't hurt either.

Double standard INDEED!! That ticks me the hell off, too!

This is disgusting. Our children can't say the Pledge of Allegiance because it states "One Nation under God," but they can learn this? Outrageous!

tick is too mild...I just sent the school board an email...we must stop this now!!!!! Contact your representatives in Washington. This could only happen in Cali....what nuts

According to Richard Thompson, Chief Counsel of the Law Center, “There is a double-standard at play in this case. If the students had done similar activities in a class on Christianity, a constitutional violation would surely have been found. If the public school’s practice is upheld on appeal, all public schools should begin teaching classes on Christianity in the same manner as the Islam class was taught in this case.”
Just more anti-Americanism being practiced by our "government."
How much more? How much more until the people wake up and see that our "government" is not on "our" side? Selling out American workers to the Chinese. Giving the Chinese communists control of our national debt. The president of the United States giving most of our military secrets to the communists, while we worried about who he had sex with. Wide open borders. Free medical and food stamps for illegals. Nothing for the WORKING people that support all of this crap. Amnesty for illegals. $3.00 gasoline even though we have acquired massive new reserves in Iraq and Afghanistan...and never even pumped Alaska which has enough oil for the next 90 years.
Hate speech laws, unconstitutional search and seizure laws...and on and on and on. Muslims invited for "prayer" at the White House. Currency backed by thin air... and on and on.
I am flat amazed that even the least educated cannot figure out the program. Yeah, but the "conservatives," or the "liberals" are going to "fix it." WHEN? I have heard the SAME old lies and rhetoric from these scumbags for the past 30 years....and so I ask again...WHEN? When are we going back to being America? I doubt we will ever see the day.
Sure, sure....it is all just an "accident," after all, they just don't know what they are doing up there....they're trying. Anyone want some choice beach front property in Del Rio Texas? Got some for sale.
Posted by: TheAlamo | Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 03:33 AM
Our school district tried that. We are very small. 400 kids in our high school. Parents turned out for the following school board meeting and demanded the program be removed, or we would not send our kids to those classes. They stopped them. However they did try to slip in reading the Koran in History class. Parents sent their kids to school with their bible to read in that class. The plan of the school board failed. Hell, our kids in public school don't even have off jewish holidays, no jews in the schools, not that they are not allowed in, just none there. And our kids sing religious songs at christmas concerts.

Way to go , Dan ! I agree with you 100%. I have emailed my local newspaper and Bill O'Reilly on Fox News, I liked the way he straightened out the Red Cross during 9 - 11. I know you're not a fan of those types of news shows, but I think Mr. O'Reilly is different , I think he is fair and balanced. Thanks for catching that one.

He is different alright. Balanced and fair ummm, don't think so.
Most folks won't say a word about this even though they do not agree. It's not happening on their back step so they will be indifferent.

My son's friend brought home three books concerning the "Summoning of Demons" yesterday. I was disappointed in his choice of reading, and even more disturbed that these three books were available in the Middle School library. I then asked my wife about the Bible, and she said that it was illegal for the Bible to be in the library in a public school. (I don't know if that's true in NJ or not.) It seems to be an "Anybody But Jesus" campaign. Islam is definitely promoted in the public school system. It's a darn shame I can't afford private school.

You can homeschool. NJ has very easy rules for doing just that.

Have you ever looked into it? There is lots of help out there for getting kids into private or semi-private schools. Give a few a call and find out.

When are ppl going to see who's to blame here??
yeah, I know, most think it started with Clinton and maybe it did, but the only ppl I see really getting rich off all the oil prices is GWB. Heck, they've even got Haliburton to "rebuild" New Orleans. I would think it would be better to give that job to the ppl left homeless and jobless from Katrina. But then Cheney (former CEO of Haliburton) and GW wouldn't be lining thier pockets with money otherwise. Go ahead and bash me but I've lived long enough to put the blame where it lies. JMO

You might not think you are "qualified" to teach your child at home, but I can tell you from experience that you are 1000% BETTER qualified to teach your child.
You cannot possibly be "bad enough" to do worse than the government school system. If you can do it, you will never regret it.

The will NEVER happen in the South. Why? All the rednecked Bubbas in their pickup trucks (and their hunting dogs) would show up at the school board office in mass numbers. They would commence to raise H-E-L-L. Also, the Bubbas' shotguns would be conveniently mounted in their truck windows (as they usually are down here), just in case they were needed to "talk" some sense into the school board officials. And no, I'm not kidding. Damn, it's GREAT to live in the South!!!

Sounds good to me to teach children about the religions in the world, but this looks more like they were proselytizing for islam. That is not educating anymore.

Why not teach the teachers how to be a good American...
This is BS to the umpth degree.. If this were my kid, there'd be a war brewing.... This is more infuriating than I care to comment,...

Youre right!!! but unfortunately most Middle Class Americans, everyday people.. do not protest... They are too busy working and tending to the needs of their families....

How to be a good American - This is an exercise taught in a few progresssive schools out here. For 3 weeks kids are assigned different roles/jobs in a city that they build in 3D. Like role playing, someone is Mayor, policeman, garbage man etc. Direct experience in government and delivery of public services. Too bad our government got lost on the way to school..... they could use some tips.
Now flipping that equation to look at the life of a Muslim seems brilliant to me. No where stated that an American version of the same exercise did Not preceed the reverse. Knowledge is power....hate is weak. Haters hate. Most hate is already taught at home, Don't need NO ejukation for that.... in fact, the dumber the better.
Posted by: callmeBetty | Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 02:50 PM
I'm wondering if this "teaching" includes the ever present Wahhabism/Jihad (hate America) coming out of the mouth of many mainstream Muslims clerics. Tie this is with shop class or some simple chemistry (most 12 year olds could learn) and you'd have a new terror cell.
What I think this age group needs (to combat the media) is a class in patriotism. Top topics:
1) Who liberated Europe (twice)
2) Who toppled the Soviet Union
3) Who liberated Kuwait/Iraq
4) Which form of govt has the most freedom/liberties/rights/etc
and
5) In what country can you grow up in Arkansas, sleep with whomever you wish and still be president....

The "breaking news story" began in or about October 16, 2002. Thats three years ago.
It takes that long to get to the court that can strike it down or uphold it. The original court decision is also years old.
The ACLU has already won numerous decisions against activities like this but the antagonist was either christian or jew. Why expend any effort when precedent of law will do the job for you in time and you get the added benefit of launching a laugh campaign against the people against the ACLU when the laws the ACLU helped establish are used to eliminate the problem of teaching islam in public schools. ACLU is anything but stupid.
Following partially quoted was written at outset of case and is very relevant to comments above.
http://www.stcynic.com/blog/archives/2004/01/oh_my_god_the_a.php
"the most ridiculous thing about it is that you didn't take even 5
minutes to do a little research to see if what was in the article was
true, or to think about whether the inferences were logical. In short, this is
one gigantic lie. Yes, the Byron school history class is a horrible idea and it
should be stopped immediately. But everything after that fact is nothing
more than hysterical rhetoric based on half-truths, innuendo and
distortions. "
Since the US has over time become highly involved in the middle east, oil, israel, and has a finger in every pie where moslems are, it might be a good idea for someone to learn a bit about islam.
CIA and FBI are teaching islam understanding and paying a premium for those fluent in arabic and other mid eastern languages who just might know a little about islam.
If we do not begin to understand the enemy he may well overcome us. Saladin knew this but will we pull our heads out of our rumps in time to learn it.
The US has little record of success with mutually beneficial diplomacy with majority islamic states. The public seems to want to abandon any capacity to use the understanding of islamic states developed over hundreds of years by europeans (france, britian, russia etc).
So whats the solution: The Moslems and Christians wipe each other off the face of the earth and the rest of the world inherits the earth. Sound just dandy if there is anything left after a 900 year old war devestates it again.
Oh why not. Lets try it and see what happens.

It's too damn bad he couldn't just keep it zipped. The president's actions caused me a considerable amount of stress when my barely in grade school children hopped into the car one afternoon and told me all about the president being married and having a girlfriend conversations that kids were having on the playground at school. My mouth was full of the coke I was drinking when they dropped the REAL bombshell, "Mom, what is oral sex?"
Gee thanks, Bill.
