Here's why - from an email.
Dan,I wanted to thank you for your blog.My wife and I spent the last three days scouring the internet and on the phone trying to find out what happened to her mother. A lady in Dallas read a post of yours that had a link to nola.com and found a post there about the specific nursing home that she was in and where they'd taken the patients. She put that information in the comments at my site and we found Vicky's mother about 45 minutes later. The details are (here).Just wanted you to know that you made a difference in our lives, even if it was unintentional.

Because it makes a difference and you don't even realize it. !!!
thanks, Dan...!!

Dan, your blog is one of the better sources for info. Remembering so many questions with very few links at Katrina's after mass.

How hard must it be for the people on the ground in New Orleans, Biloxi, the rest of the gulf coast:
here is my experience:
I have been at a volunteer station at the Texas Tourist bureau at the state line..
There are 50 porta potties..food tables set up with tons of food, clothes..
at least 200 bus loads came thru today.
I worked at the civic center until today..but since I started in about demanding Snow Ball back..I was with the Humane Society who has a tent set up to feed and water any animals ..but there are so few coming out of New Orleans.
Two women who had been manning food lines since 8 am this morning came by and we started talking about Humane Society making it known that we have capability to care for the animals if they will jsut bring them out..and my efforts for getting Snow Ball back.
Well we ended up breaking down and sobbing..its just so much.
These people ( I dont care what reasons caused them to stay in the city ) are coming out in the clothes they have had on , no bathes, hungry. The stories are horific..
There is NO help from FEMA or the red cross for these volunteer stations..its all donations form local people and tons of donations.
But this is only the sixth day and we broke down..I do not know how we going to manage over the long haul..and keep in mind: we are safe, we are the volunteers..can you imagine how hard it is for these displaced people who stop with us for awhile not even knowing where they are and not knowing for sure where they going when they get back on the busses.
Sorry, but I am crying as I type this..I really thought I was a stronger person.
And I still want the campaign to get Snow Ball back carried on and all the help you can give on that..send emails to everybody you know demanding Snow Ball back..
Its my rally call..I just think it is important that we get taht one puppy safely back in that little boy's arms.
Dan I got some information ..not going to post it publicly..you might contact me if you have the time. You may have figured it out for yourself
