Acting on earlier information, I've contacted sources in Aruba and have confirmed that Joran Van der Sloot, thought to be the primary suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, will be boarding a plane tonight for Holland.
Van der Sloot is still subject to prosecution and could be taken into custody in Holland and prosecuted for the crime in the event that new evidence emerges linking him to a crime.
Earlier unconfirmed information suggested his departure time was approximately 8 PM Aruba time. No further information currently available.
Update: Ian has video of O'reilly tonight, who apparently mentions the move.

It would be best for him if his plane doesn't lay over at Birmingham International Airport...

Or the Jackson International Airport. Just the thought of him getting on a plane makes me mad.

If anyone tries anything in the line of vigilante justice, they will be just as liable as anyone else.
And I really don't think his plane will stop in Birmingham. So you've nothing to worry about.

Better that he can be productive and contribute to society than rot away.

The thing that worries me is WHAT he will contribute to society. Society doesn't need what he has learned to contribute so far.

Liability? What liability? No one in Aruba has been held liable for anything...and no one ever will. I could have told ya that from day one.
Puhleeeze...this whole thing reeks...from the stonewalling suspects to the perfectly-timed press releases.

While Joran certainly seems less than straight forward and his parents a bit naieve and shady, his guilt has not yet been proven.
At some point he will feel confortable and confide in someone if he is guilty. Just as happened in the Texas Cadet Murder some years back. In most cases, although certainly not all, justice occurs at some point.
Until Joran's guilt is PROVEN, and not merely heresay based on "Supposed" comments or confessions yet confirmed then I hope he picks up his life and attempts to be a productive member of society learning a substantial amount from what this has done to all friends and families involved. Perhaps he can now make a positive difference in other's lives.
If he is ever found to be guilty, then perhaps in some sick way, it might be satisfying to see him yanked from his new, potentially successful life after thinking he has gotten away with it, only to be thrown several years later into prison with no privileges.
stranger things have happened.... My money is on Deepak being the leader or instigator of the whole mess though....

Yep, and Natalee will not be enjoying her scholarship or college days at all. She earned her status. He hasn't.
Don't even think about transfering to Central Florida U., because they are just waiting for you. No more "gangsta" caca for you, Joran. No more wannabe. Time to grow up and in the process, come clean.

PS Thanks Dan!

Anyone who threatens Joran may remember that I heard the internet threats are being logged, since he was getting so many personal threats. Even on some messageboards threatening posts have been proliferating. It is against the law to threaten someone's life, and it's not funny, no matter what. There's not even enough evidence to charge him, as far as we know, let alone justify vigilante justice. While I am not one of Joran's fans, I also don't know what the truth is concerning Natalee Holloway and I regard those who think it's funny to threaten the life of an 18 year old boy, as bad as they think he may be.
He has not been found guilty, and while I don't have a problem with anyone guessing that he's involved with the disappearance with Natalee Holloway, I think it's nauseating how some can joke about his death. On a popular message board there are entire threads making light of his death. I hope nothing happens to Joran, and God forbid if it does, I hope the authorities will be aware of the sick people who have threatened Joran's life on message boards. I have saved them, just in case, because even he deserves a trial before being executed.
The message boards who foster those despicable threads and posts are beneath contempt, no matter how they pat their selves on the back thinking they are such advocates for Natalee, like that makes them good people, while they laugh about killing Joran and torturing his father. God help those sick minds, and the contemptible moderators who allow those things to go on.
But, that being said, I pray that Natalee's family can get the answers they need, and that JOran, or whoever is responsible will be held accountable for whatever happened to that lovely, precious girl. God bless the Holloways and Twittys. My heart is still broken for Beth Twitty. My prayers for all of them during these difficult days.

The laws against threatening someone's life over cyberspace are different in each jurisdiction. Nothing will ever come of it, anyway.
Posted by: josh | Monday, September 05, 2005 at 06:46 PM
What a shame! What if that were your daughter? A real number was pulled off and it probably wasn't the first one either. I just wonder what young girl will be the next victim - what family will suffer next time? I have followed this story from the beginning and it stinks to high heaven! God Bless the Holloways and God Bless the Twittys and GOD BLESS NATALEE. I hope justice somehow prevails.
Posted by: kristy | Monday, September 05, 2005 at 06:56 PM
Well said, Ashleigh. May God forgive those of you who have judged this boy on the basis of internet rumor and FOX and Nancy Grace exuberance for ratings, and way too much middle of the night speculation. I also pray that Natalee be found, preferably alive, and that her family will find closure and peace. It disturbs me how hate festers among people who are guessing and basing their hate on such a thin line of anything remotely resembling evidence.
The Good Book says, "be sure your sin will find you out."
I also pray none of you judging Joran have sons that might one day experience something similar and you would have to eat your words. Better to show mercy now than to choke on your unkindness and let God do the judging.

Please focus your attention on the gulf and real innocent people who need help.
God bless.

Hey arubaisforlosers. First let me say I am disgusted by these little gooks.
I have read this blog from the beginning and have one question to ask.
There were over 100 MB students on the trip. I have no idea how many were in the bar that night but why did NAtalee get into a cab "by herself". What I can't figure out is if she were there with say 10 other girls, they didn't all get private cabs. Why did she want to ride alone. If I were out with friends partying why would I say to my friends I will get in a cab by myself?

greetings from México,i've been reading this blog since june as this is the 1st time i post.
as soon as this mofo enter that KLM plane he'll fly straight to freedom, with his dutch passport he'll able to go wherever he pleases, in 1996 the EU signed the Shengenland treaty, since that year borders in Europe no longer exist, i'm sure he'll "stay" inside the kingdom of Holland just because a judge told him to.
it's a pity that someone in Aruba organized this charade, i don't know who dit it, maybe the police along with the dutch elite or the goverment, or the tourist industry, but as long as Natalee is missing and no justice is done, tourist from all over the world will think twice before visiting that happy island.

I'm simply amazed that anyone would defend this skum of the earth, Joran Vanderloot. At the very LEAST, this waste of humanity LIED TO police in the very first days and shows no remorse for the false arrest of the two black security guards. He would not have lied if he had nothing to hide. He also had an intimate relationship with a 13 or 14 year old girl. (Of course I'm sure he couldn't find any decent, normal girl his own age, but still).. Joran is A WASTE OF HUMANITY. I pray there is karma for him and his family of liars.

While I think that Joran knows something and was probably involved, in some ways I am glad to see him walk. One life, Nathalee, has already been ruined. Why ruin another one? If he is guilty at all it will ride with him for the rest of his life. Better that he can be productive and contribute to society than rot away. I know that this contradicts the conventional view that I was brought up with and most of the world adheres to, the one that says, "my god, we've got to punish him and make him suffer for his transgressions", but I think that this is a wasteful, useless, cruel attitude. Of course, people will argue with me. But I was brought up to feel that way, so obviously I know that this is an option and a common way of thinking. God bless Joran. I hope that he tries to do good.

Dan, This seems to have gone from a forum for finding the truth about Natalee's disappearance to a hate fest against her family and anyone who is supportive of them.
If there is no reason to suspect the Kalpoe brothers or Joran van der Sloot, then are the Aruban authorities looking at others?
Is is possible that a young female tourist can vanish with no trace from the island of Aruba? That is still the focus of many of us here. Where is Natalee? My heart breaks for her family as it has since she went missing. I hope they are comforted by the fact that there are many people who only want them to find out where their daughter is and what happened to her.
If van der Sloot and the Kalpoes are innocent of wrong doing, who has Natalee? Is the Aruban government giving up on finding her?

The thing that surprises me about this topic is that when this guy leaves for wherever he's going, the police won't catch him and bring him back to wherever he's from. Oh, and I still have no idea what the stinky poo poo you guys are talking about...

mem - We are the United States, as such there is something called States rights. It was first and foremost the responsibility of the mayor of New Orleans to prepare and react to the Katrina before, during and after the event. Once that fails, then it is up to the state of Louisiana.
This country has done a remarkable job in reacting to the crisis. Yes things might have gone better, but all in all I would challenge any other government or group to handle this better.

two suspects are in custody in connection to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway (search) — the Alabama teen who went missing in Aruba. Are police getting closer to solving the mystery of her whereabouts? We'll ask Aruba Police Commissioner Ronny Bernadina.

Well, Larry, that is a good approach for you to think, that the life of Joran will be ruined if he rots in jail for his transgressions.
Obviously, you have never lost a child. I know what it is like to have a missing child for 5 years, and it tears your guts out, so losing a child to a murderer, like Joran, would never be enough to know that the murderer was walking free, while a precious child, Natalee,is dead.
You are just not on the same wavelength.
Have a child then have it out of your sight for a while, where you have no knowledge, and let's see how you would allow a murderer to suffer for his transgression in freedom, while your child is still missing.
Unless you have experienced a lost child,
Don't share thoughts you know nothing about.
