It's been very hard to put together something about the disaster in New Orleans. N.O. is my hometown, the place of my birth and where I came to realize who I was and what the world around me was like.
This hurricane was devastating to N.O. The city has been killed, it's quite possible that it can be resurrected, but not into the same form. I physically hurt for my friends and family that are suffering so much right now in the wake of this, this blow to my family is hard to wrap my mind around, but with time, we'll recover, like the city, and we'll all be stronger for it.
Here's the place to go if you want to read some serious thoughts on the devastation in New Orleans from a personal perspective. I'm also adding Jason to my Blog Roll - a list on the right of many interesting blogs you might want to look over and click a link. lol If you're in a lighter mood.
It marries perfectly with a piece by Dean Esmay I'd suggest you read - What Matters Most To You.

Just thinking about the devastation in the Gulf and the Gulf States makes me sick. Like most southern folks, I have vacationed in the panhandle of FL, the shores of LA (that’s Lower Alabama), traveled down to the gambling towns of MS and even had a drink (or 2 or 3 ...) in the Big Easy. But I never imagined that the oil rigs out on the horizon could be damaged. Or what that damage could do to the gas prices. Its time to find an alternative to Saudi oil! Either here at home in Alaska, or via our "improvements" to the country of Iraq or maybe with our "friendly" neighboring countries to the south. When we see Saudi oil prices go up during our time of crisis, "something ain't right"! The US is the largest consumer of oil in the world. Why do we have to import so much of it? In the news today, Iran wants the US to drop the sanctions we have on them and they will ship us 20M barrels. HELL NO! Keep the sanctions in place. Our generous nature throughout the rest of the FREE world should gather enough support to make offers of that nature worthless.
Thus endeth my sermon...whew I need a Tylenol my head hurts!

I got this email form someone. Maybe we can help.
-------------------------------------------------
WE ARE LOOKING TO FIND SOME INFORMATION ABOUT SHIRLEY LAPE WHO WAS LIVING IN A RETIREMENT CENTER IN GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI. SHE TALKED TO HER DAUGHTER IN NAMPA, IDAHO ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY BEFORE THE STORM AND NO ONE HAS HEARD ANY THING FROM HER SINCE. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE RED CROSS AND THEY SAY IT WILL PROBABLY TWO WEEKS BEFORE THEY WILL HAVE ANY INFORMATION.
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP IN LOCATING THE ABOVE PERSON. WE THINK SHE HEADED NORTH IN A CAR WITH ANOTHER WOMAM. ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

Check this out. It speaks of the evacuees from Katrina being placed behind bars. Do not know how true the story is.

If you want to help with the victims of Katrina, threadless.com put together a t-shirt where you pay $10 for the shirt and they will donate $20.
Check it out and help out.
