Late word from Aruba suggests a judge has ruled that Satish Kalpoe can remain in detention through the next eight day period, prior to a next scheduled hearing - as is the custom under Dutch Law. No word as of now regarding older brother Deepak Kalpoe.
It's also being reported that the family of Joran Van der Sloot is receiving multiple threats over the phone. In earlier discussions with Chicago Private Detective Ernie Rizzo, he stated that he was planning on going to Aruba on or around Sept. 4, but the family denied he had been retained.
It's unclear if that report has any merit, if the Van der Sloot family has taken steps to insure their security, or if some sort of protection will be provided by the Government of Aruba, possibly through the Dutch Marines.
It's believed that while Joran Van der Sloot must remain accountable to authorities in the continued investigation of the Natalee Holloway disappearance, reports suggest he would be able to travel within the Dutch Antilles, or to Holland, should the family choose to leave the island.
Update: I've been informed that the Van der Sloot attorney appeared on Fox News to confirm the release. He also stated that Joran Van der Sloot cannot leave the island of Aruba, as he is still considered a suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
A judge on Thursday ordered the release of a Dutch teenager who has been jailed for nearly three months in the disappearance of an Alabama honors student and said he would be freed this weekend, the youth's father said.
Paul van der Sloot said the judge ruled there was no reason to hold his son, Joran, any longer on suspicion of murder but the youth remained a suspect in the sexual assault of Natalee Holloway.
"The judge ruled that he must remain at the disposal of police for interrogation and follow certain rules," Paul van der Sloot, who was told of the decision by the family's attorney.
Update: Someone purports to be very happy about developments. I haven't seen an actual email.

Thanks again Dan.

The family of JDVS is also going through a lot. I personally have respect for them in the fact that the too want to know what happened to Natalie. But to be harrased, that is a bit much, something that no one should go through.
Posted by: Dee | Thursday, September 01, 2005 at 08:13 PM
So they are keeping the little brother because they can?For another 8 days? What do you think this implies?

Hot dog!! Maybe the HTs will now get some of the answers that they need.
Posted by: TexasGal | Thursday, September 01, 2005 at 08:31 PM
Dee, they do know what happened to Natalee. It's just that they have to protect their son from facing the music. I agree that the harassment is not necessary, but they don't have to look far for answers because Joran knows them and so does his Daddy.
Posted by: mexiwife | Thursday, September 01, 2005 at 08:33 PM
i would be shocked if they did not keep Deepak - he is much more the player in this than Satish - I truly fear for Joran - I wish he could go to Holland - there are so many nuts out there - killing him will do no good - I hope his family keeps him safe!!
Posted by: Jan | Thursday, September 01, 2005 at 08:34 PM
Jan,
Joran might stay safe if he can tell the whole truth about Natalee and help resolve this case. I think if Joran knew what was good for him, the first person he will talk to when he gets out is the Holloway-Twitty family!

This is what I was afraid off.
I think they want to get somebody to be incriminated (sp ?) for NH disapperance. So they decided to get Satish ... and pretty soon they will also arrest Deepak. That is what happens when you put pressure on them.
I think the white boy is getting away, get the brown boys and hang them, this way NH mother can go away with REVENGE (ofcourse she will never know what happened to her kid), but who cares
Unbelievable

i feel sick reading how the feelings for joran are being implied, he was " THERE WHILE SHE WAS BEING RAPED, MURDERED AND BURIED " as being reported from his own statements. why didn't he try to help her or at least tell one version of the truth??

If they think the Beth will leave, b/c Aruba throws her some patsies... they are very sorely mistaken.... this will piss her off more. She wants answers, she wants the truth, and she wants to know where her daughter is.

And so would any mother in her case. But what anyone thinks. We need to know what she or anyone else knows as far as evidence to figure this case out, or to put anyone at blame for anything.

Why, they arrested two "black" security guards pretty quickly. The Dutch are the whitest people, well almost. They will deny it but JVDS is out, will he apologize to the security guards? I doubt it. The Kalpoe's have the right skin color
Posted by: frank | Thursday, September 01, 2005 at 09:34 PM
In all truth, maybe JVDS does know what happened, but it was not done by his hands, they kept him the longest as the main suspect, where does that lead our theories? I just want to know what is going on, I want to know what the families do... I can't say much beyond that.

Joran has info that is worth a lot of money.
I am sure someone has a plan to extract the info

Only those involved know the truth and they don't seem to be talking. I am not interested in crucifying someone because of innuendo's and heresay.
I, like everyone else, want Natalee to be found. That is first and foremost. I would like to see the guilty parties be prosecuted and behind bars. Unfortunately, we don't have that truth at this point. Lots of thoughts and theories but no truth.
Joran will pay, I'm afraid, whether he is guilty or not. His family already is. I wish we knew the truth and Natalee's family could finally resume living.

Since we are hearing info regarding Joran and Satish, probably next thing will be reading about Deepak being held for the actual murder. If Natalee would of hit or done something to his car, perhaps, this could have thrown him into doing something terrible.

State Department: I'm not really for this but it seems to me if the U.S. State Dept. issued a warning it may compel more Arubans to come forward. Those defending Joran and bashing the U.S. need to accept reality also, the image of Aruba is sinking and in serious trouble. No it's not fair, just like the bungling of the Holloway case seems unfair. If we all focus on finding Natalee, pressure is needed. Maybe not media pressure but I'm asking an Aruban, if no American were to come to the island, what would that mean?

All along, I believed the Prosecutors had built a case, and with the rearrest of the Kalpoes and Freddy, it seemed certain things were moving along. Now, it turns out that the Prosecution has 300 pages of NOTHING very useful. The Twittys claimed they had knowledge of so much more, but, they haven't produced any of it. I'm afraid this case is over for many of us. It's not out of lack of caring, but, it's been three months of constant coverage, with millions of dollars spent. It seems obscene in the light of so many suffering Americans tonight, to focus on one white affluent family's loss any longer. They've had three solid months to express their grief and they've done an exhaustive job to promote awareness of Natalee Holloway.
Now, too many resources are needed for the survivors of the hurricane.
It doesn't make Natalee's loss any less tragic, but, how much can the media, or private donations be used for just one family, when so many hundreds of thousands are in crisis and need the country's attention, as well as our donations?
It's like when Chandra Levy was missing, it was a HUGE deal in the media, until 911 happened, and then it dropped off the radar, replaced by thousands of people who were killed or missing. This current tragedy is rapidly eclipsing September 11th. It would be inappropriate for the media to focus on this one affluent white family, when so many have more dire needs and have suffered extreme losses in their own lives. The Twittys are fortunate to have a supportive community and a home to go home to in Alabama. While they will mourn for a long time, the media can't continue to fixate on this one case, and one that has no answers.
There is nothing against Joran. Who knows? Maybe he is innocent?

Again, the media doesn't drive the story, we do? Don't keep blaming the media because they have an audience. It's like saying why does Starbucks keep selling coffee?

Frank,
I think you framed one sentence I wrote, which puts it out of context.
The media has devoted three solid months to one family. This family has received astounding support, donations, volunteer organizations and even support from many influential people in our own government. Natalee Holloway is important, as her family's loss is just as serious as any other family.
What I was pointing out was that while the Twittys and Holloways have had a horrible loss, they were fortunate to have had so much support. I believe it's time for Americans to use that same generosity and goodwill to help those who are now in need of attention, whether they are black or white.

Ashleigh,
You said white and affluent and I reread what you said. Why were those words necessary. You're sounding like Joran here. You could have left out the white and affluent and still made your point. But you didn't leave it out. It says alot. Your argument would have been better, and your second story was better. Given time to review. Sounds like Joran's second story that he left her unharmed on the beach. Think about it.

Ashleigh,
Again, we are driving this story. I feel pain whenever harm comes to a women regardless of what she looks like. But these "pimps" and amateur porn producers don't seem to seduce or drug girls that are unattractive. These predators are the ones doing harm and that's what makes the story, not the media.
Posted by: frank | Thursday, September 01, 2005 at 11:53 PM
I still think Satish is the least guilty of the set.
I do hope that with this decision the judge made an excellent, strategic move.
Posted by: Roy | Thursday, September 01, 2005 at 11:55 PM
Frank,
I used the words "white" and "affluent" because that's what this family is. It's relative to the sensitivity that millions of blacks have towards the media's obsession with affluent white girls who are thin, pretty and have attractive families. This is a time of crisis in America, but, you've probably noticed. It's hard for the media to spend as much time on this one white affluent family's loss, which has been featured for three solid months, when so many people of color have missing family members and feel that because they are black they don't matter to America. I'm sorry if that's not politically correct, but, there is still polarization in our country, and many blacks feel that the media's obsession with white damsels in distress is a subtle form of racism, since more minority children, (proportionate to population) go missing than beautiful thin, affluent girls.
I'm not trying to push your buttons, but, you seem to take issue with this, and it's a reality that I didn't create. I think that Natalee's case was important enough for us to care, and I still care. However, there are hundreds of thousands of human beings who have lost all they have in this world, including loved ones, pets, homes, and possessions.
There's room in our hearts to still care about Natalee, but, the media needs to concentrate on these people now. They need all the help they can get.

Posted by: Another Observer | Friday, September 02, 2005 at 12:04 AM
Ashleigh,
I don't disagree with you. But these 3 targeted Natalee. Are you concerned how easily the 2 black security guards were arrested? Or now the affluent white family the VDS' have their son out and the poor Kalpoe's don't?
I think your originally comment showed some anger and racism itself and all I was trying to say was that your point would have been more powerful without it. I thin there is racism in this case also. Have you been to the Netherlands? Not much flavor there if you know what I mean.
I think my sore spot is blaming the media. If there was no interest they wouldn't be there.

Every kid would have cracked under the pressure. No matter what their father instructed them to do or say. The release, only confirms my feelings. The only thing Joran and/or the Kalpoe brothers can be accused of is negligence for leaving a drunk girl alone at the beach.
