Roberts Glides In
If you've been following it, the vote is over - Roberts is in. But that's the least interesting part of this story because it was expected. However, I thought Hillary was going to vote for, not against, last I heard? Hmmm. Political calculus and all that, I suppose.
But the more important aspects of the following link are 1) the web loggers First Amendment Pledge. If you are a newer blog reader, I bet you didn't realize the FEC is interested in reigning in web loggers freedoms as regards speaking out on political causes?
Finally, most important of all as regards the Robert's vote being concluded is that now we get to move on to the big game - the next nominee. Are you really interested enough in the country's direction for, say the next thirty years, or so, to get involved in that discussion?
I wonder how many really are?

I have no problem with Robert's record to date. But I don't think his resume is long enough to warrant the position. The other justices must feel slighted somewhat....kinda like having your intern assigned to be your lead.
Now there's talk of nominating someone with no bench experience. I'm not comfortable with that.
Maybe we should do away with life appointments.

I am overjoyed that John Roberts is going to be the new Chief Justice. I don't believe there is a better nominee out there. He seems unflappable, well grounded, loyal to the Constitution and not ready to put his personal "spin" or beliefs in play.
How interesting to see the votes and the comments by the various dissenters. Listening to Kennedy speak made me want to throw up - talk about the pot calling the kettle black - he has no business questioning anyone's ethics or anything else, he doesn't even deserve to be in the Senate. What a total zero!

I certainly hope that the next Justice selected will be done so in a manner intended to keep our checks and balances system intact.
Somehow, I think that may be asking a little too much from this administration.

Dan,
I think Hillary chose not to vote for him so that she can use that as part of some strategy to attack other democratic candidates in the lead up to the 2008 primaries.....JMO
The downside is that if Bush now nominates a Justice O'Connor replacement that looks reasonable to the public, but doesn't meet Hillary's criteria, she will look like a partisan obstructionist......however, given the current state of this administration, that may not be a politically untenable situation!

I know Roberts isn't the first gay justice, but he's certainly the most delicate.
What a girly-girl. Can't wait till she puts on her robe.

Thanks Dan and yes some of us do care about who will be voted in and having impact on this country. I like what DeeDee had to say above. I agree!

I read last week she would not support Roberts, and I kind of figured that would happen. Hillary is kissing and will be kissing a lot of azz before the next presidential election. After all, she is no longer so sure of a womans right to abortion, she now claims it as a personal choice, where before she was cut and dry on the subject.

I am interested Dan. Thanks for the updates. We do need to be praying for someone on the court who will be willing to remember who the men were who wrote the Constitution and know those men. If you read about those men and get to them you will be more able to rightly divide the law. JMO

I'll leave it at that.
