Prosecutor Earle's Movie Deal Is Troubling
That headline is an understatement - as an aside, here's a look at Texas Prosecutor Ronnie Earle's self-promoting website.
I believe the Law, capital L, is sacred to this Nation - even if you believe nothing else is supposed to be. Ronnie Earle, now all too obviously a Democratic Political hack, along with being a prosecutor, went through five Grand Juries before he was able to get what appears to be a shaky indictment against Tom Delay. Fair enough? Perhaps. But giving a movie maker whose last deal was with PBS complete access for two years while you conduct the investigation? I cannot believe such a practice should be considered ethical, regardless of your politics.
The Law is there, as regards politics anyway, to protect us from politicians who get off track and betray our common interests as citizen's of the United States and those respective States. But who is there to protect us when a Prosecutor with so obvious an agenda gets out of line? Frankly, I'm not sure.
If Delay violated the campaign finance laws, throw the bum out - though at this point there is ample reason to at least suspect he did not. However, to produce a movie so obviously biased according to the title and movie description has no place within our legal or political system. Sorry, but read Byron York's piece and see if you agree ... this is over the top.
Update: Read about a previous Earle scandal here.

OMG, this whole indictment is a joke. This guy is well known for going after his enemies, both democrats and republicans.

Well, I've been mulling over many aspects of this. Not ready to post yet, but I get the impression that there's a larger Dem Party agenda here. Not just Earle but groups like CREW seem to be out to 'get' prominent Republicans in an all out assault. It does not matter to them whether or not charges stick, this is more about publicity than anything else.
Which brings us to the movie (documentary) crew, consistent with this theory. Now, this is not unprecedented. I did a lot of coverage of the documentary made of the Newark election a few years ago, called Street Fight. Take some comfort in the fact that this kind of thing can backfire pretty badly (if Delay is not convicted of anything for example). The documentary maker can decide that the real story is how Earle's ambition got the better of him. But you are right in that the decision to make a documentary is part of a publicity-centered mindset.
The Republicans are looking very disorganized, even stunned by recent events. Bush seems incapable of pulling his party together (everyone looking to the next election) and Rove, for once, looks outflanked.
Democrats being the creatures they are (see Louisiana), the odds are that they will find a way to screw up this strategy. However, the Republicans need leadership and they are not getting it. Sadly, they still seem determined to spend their way out of trouble, and I blame Bush for that attitude.

"Odds are they will find a way to screw this up", yes Snitch, odds are you are correct. The hypocritical statement that Earle is standing for morality is practically a joke. Moral ethics are not the root of this agenda. Watch for the backfire! In fact, I would liken it to the CBS / Dan Rather fiasco. When it hits the fan, take notice of all who run.

I'm not sure I understand why the Prosecutor is being attacked by pro-Right and defended by pro-Left. That makes no sense.
In any matter of law, the point is to have a very aggressive defense and an aggressive prosecution to match. The jury decides if evidence is enough to convict. But attacking the jury is no good, since they have no agenda, except doing a good job and getting home...
I'm a McCain supporter. I can't, for the life of me, understand why people want to support Bush. He's not the ant-Christ, but he is a boldface liar.
America backed him because the Dems were winning and we wanted the strongest candidate possible of defeating him. We picked the popular guy, even though he's got a checkered past, and we let him smear the name of a better candidate.
I liken bashing that prosecutor to supporting Bush over McCain. It's dishonest; DeLay is ethically challenged and we need to dispute evidence, not shift suspicion.

But who is there to protect us when a Prosecutor with so obvious an agenda gets out of line? Frankly, I'm not sure.
Who is to protect us when a former prosecutor gets out of line - like Nancy Grace.
Who is to protect us from the fact that prosecutors are elected based on conviction rate in their court - no one ever looks at the turnover rate in appeals.
If Hillary Clinton was charged with the same offense by the same DA, all the conservatives would be screaming guilty and well done Mr. Earle,
we applaud your ethical morality.
Oh what a tangled web we make when first we practice to legislate.
Isn't the bigger picture the money laundering laws passed by the people involved in campaign money laundering - Delay, Kennedy, Bush, Clinton, etc. etc. And the conservatives sit idly by awaiting another election where Delay says god in a speech and go ba ba ba at the polls.

Nancy Grace and Bill O'Reilly need to be locked in a room together, far removed from us. May they eat each other out of existence.
Neither is a reporter. They are both very prejudicial (and often fact-confused) pundits masquerading their views as a 'news' show.
Enough. Give me straight facts with no color/embellishment. I can handle the truth. I have no use for convenient, pre-packaged belief systems.

In your words: America backed him. repeat that phrase a couple of times to yourself today. Don't include me in we. Be sure of who you are including in "we".

Are Ronnie Earle's actions intended to masque the massive money laundering through insurance claims? He is a good old buddy of Roy Minton Jr, LBJ era crook extraordinaire.
DeLay's conviction is inevitable, thanks to Abramoff's guilty plea.

Look at Texas and New York!
Now read this .... http://www.nydailynews.com/news/local/story/42203p-39826c.html
Why does New York say "2" in DHS report, ( you will have to type in link, NOTE: (clicking on link will not get this link to display) stead of 22 or 23, and how come 2001 says 52 here but only "1" on DHS Report, and and 2002 says "0" when there was "32"!
Now look at Texas it says "1", go to the Texas Comptroller website, go to search type in "Forgotten Children" Go to page 220 and it says 21 for 2000 in State Care, and why does 2002 say "44" when DHS says "0" and 2001 says "38" not "3" like DHS says !!
Somebody has some Splainin to do Lucy!
Look!
"Abramoff planned to purchase term life insurance on Tigua elders and collect the death benefits as they died. It was an imaginative idea by which the deaths of tribal elders wold pay for lobbying services for those left behind. It was also more than the Tigua Tribal Council could stomach"
Abramoff found another niche market to which the evangelical Reed Could connect him: dying African-American Christians. If Reed could, as he promised Abramoff in an e-mail, deliver 85,000 Christian voters, Abramoff must have assumed he could deliver enough dying black Christains to create a new revenue stream. In July 2003, Abramoff emailed Reed regarding Black Churches Insurance Program. Per our previous discusssion. Let me know how we can move forward to chat with folks who can set this up with African American elders. IT CAN BE HUGE!" Texas Observer August 26, 2005 page 19
Oh, they got the idea from DEAD FOSTER CARE CHILDREN COVER UP! How come Lutheran Social Services Senske a lawyer and Tom DeLay showed up in DC to thwarth a Congressional Investigation into the FALSIFIED DEATH REPORTS.
Where is life insurance money going?
How come group foster homes have political connections?
Why are group homes taking life insurance out on STATE CHILDREN, when state pays the bills?
We know all the life insurance money is being used on casket where is the rest going?
Isn't the State the fiduciary? Where is the insurable interest?
Isn't that like a nursing home residence or hospital taking life insurance out on patients?
Who offered the DEAD PEASANT Life Insurance Scam of Texas State Retired Officials too?
