President Bush said Tuesday that "I take responsibility" for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government's ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks.
"Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government," Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.
Nuf said? Of course not - since when does what people say have anything to do with politics. Critics will just ignore it - isn't one of the opposition's talking points, sorry.
"How long have you hated poor black folk, Mr. President? And what make up does Laura use that covers up her bruises so well?"
Heh! SOS - DD.

JMO......
It isn't the fault of Bush. Nor the fault of the Federal gov.
I think this is the governor's baby...

I agree Muirnin. If the Federal gov't taken over and handle the state of Louisiana, the Democrats in this country would have gone nuts. The gov'r is very weak. Ms. and Ala. sure didn't seem to have the problems that La. had, but they seem to have take charge gov'rs. Look at Fl. and Jeb always seems to take control.

I agree with you. How can ONE man be at fault for as many things as he is blamed for? shucks.

Wow! So Bush accepts responsibility and his apologists are here saying "Well it isn't really his fault, those darn governors are too weak." I ask you, are the events listed here at this Katrina timeline all lies? Wait a second, they link to their official sources, such as the White House and DOD, so you can read the facts for yourself.

How do you explain the response when FEMA was authorized to respond before landfall? The governors of the affected states declared state of emergencies before landfall. They were in fact asking for help from the Pentagon before landfall.
Can you look me in the eye and say the response would have been good enough for your family?

The Fed. govt. is not and has never been the first responder Fema is not a first responder, the local govt. is at fault. Yes Bill my family would have been fine,we take care of ourselves and do not expect the Fed. govt. to care for us cradle to grave. I would have gotten out days ahead of time.seems like everyone knew a hurricane was coming except NO.

Bush did the right thing in dismissing Brownie and in taking responsibility. Despite the partisan hacks asserting that The Federal Emergency Management Agency isn't reponsible for this federal emergency; they are. What Bush did wrong was to allow an unqualified man to run FEMA. However, this sort of cronyism and favor-payback is practised by both the Dem party hacks and the Repub party hacks.
What Bush did RIGHT was to replace Brownie and to accept responsibility. Every president knows that "the buck stops here." I'm not a party hack [ie, "Bush is my idol and the Repub party is always right], but I'm confident that Bush will work hard to make this disaster right.

Where is the comment regarding Bush and Blacks and Laura's makeup coming from? I would like to know. If it is Dan, you have my email address, send me a note and confirm.
I am personally offended by the remark at the top. There are many politicians/public figures I don't agree with, but I would NEVER make such ill advised and untrue remarks about those I disagree with.
Uncalled for remarks, I personally know that neither one is true. Please confirm where they came from. Thank you.

Bush might "take responsibility," but it is not his.
The president is a non-entity in the case of natrual disaster. Constitutionally he has no power, and heaven forbid we give ANY president that kind of power.
Our country was set up the way it is for a reason. This is a state issue, with "aid" (UNDER STATE SUPERVISION-not the other way around-in the form of finances, VOLUNTEERS, etc) from the feds and other states.
Once we get off into the federal side of the coin handling everything, then tell me....what is the difference between us and communist or fascist countries? This country was set up this way for a reason. And...you can see why by the happenings that have gone on with Katrina.
Although it seems that the feds blocked aid, held up aid etc, it is the fault of the state officials for allowing it. If the feds did so, they did it illegally, and if the state and local officials are/were not aware of that fact, they WHY are they in office in the first place?

OK 80% got out after they where told.20% stayed.5% of that 20 you couldnt get them out with a pry bar.5% more of that 20 said i made it thru betsy and camille i can make it thru this, wrongggggg.then another 5% was the looters in trouble makers and stayed so they could do just as they wanted.that left 5 % of old people in sick in nurseing homes and hospitals. the figures are just for demostration,ok. Just in case someone has something to say about it.Thats the whole problem,I didnt do it,he did,Iiiiiiiiiii didnt do it she did. Responsibility starts with ones self. The responsibility is the person that had someone in the hostipal and nurseing homes, sure they are paid to take care of them but everone there knew this would happen and chose to put their loves ones in harms way.The police are there to try to keep control, but when you had a city that had a resident requirement for their police to live in the city, that left very poor recruits.a large amount of those left when the other 80% did.So fault starts at home with each and ever person. The mayor may could have helped more,But ive never heard of a mayor school to teach them how to run a city.Is there one?I believe the mayor had a small responsibility to help the nurseing homes and hostipals to a point.Thats the only ones left that couldn't fend for themselves. All the yelling and screaming about no food,no water,no place to go are the very ones that depends on the goverment anyway, and also the ones that chose to stay thinking they could make it.I saw lots in lots of bar b q pits there at the convention center and superdome.I hope people protest the rebuilding of most of New Orleans,Its only gonna happen again.I just hope a lot of those that went to houston and else were doesn't come back.Who needs them.In case someone says something about this,If the shoe fits you have to wear it.

I can not believe Dan would post that statement. President Bush does not hate blacks and when does 1 man ,any President, make all the decisions for us in this country. People we need to look at the local governments of Louisiana and Mississippi, to State and Federal. This was a joint venture not a one man show. I think it will all come out and the ones that are barking the worse at the President will be the ones that screwed up the worst to start with and didn't protect their city, their people or their state.
