One of the things I've been trying to do behind the scenes is build email chains as regards missing persons between people either from, or with family and friends in specific areas. This report just came in as regards Bogalusa, LA. Mostly good news, all things considered.
I just got my first report. There is extensive damage, but no fatalities have been reported. Electricity is being restored very slowly. My guys only know of 4 or 5 places that have it. School there will not be reopened until at least December. I was informed that the parish president has a satellite phone and is raising hell because there has been no real help for his folks. They do, however have fuel. Somebody with some pull has made sure that there is fuel. My husband and our friend dropped off the supplies and food and water there last night. My husband went on into Alabama and called me when he got a signal. There is no telling how long it will be before they have any phone service there. People are leaving now because this is really going to take a long time to get better. Keep e-mailing your friends, the newspaper there, channel 4 in New Orleans and keep checking message boards and you will find them. Also try calling a radio statio that services Bogalusa and put it out on the air that you want your friends to come to you. If they can hear it, then they can leave and call you when they get to a phone. Good luck.

I believe the Aruba authorities must have done a good job or the FBI would have blown the whistle.

I've a memory & commonsense and have never been much good at all at Useful Idiot (maybe because of Dutch/Scotch-Irish heritage?). Precedent:
Beth was threatened by vd Straaten to shut up or he would close the case. FBI was shut out for passing one bit of "dutch rules" info early on.
Beth's still keeping her mouth shut about some things. Any surprise the FBI is also? well doh

I can understand the media not covering this case. It happened in the Elizabeth Smart, Jessica Lunsford and the Groene cases. There was a nightly media frenzy and then it went cold. But, all three of these cases reached a resolution after the media had gone home. And who would have thought that these particular three would have ended the way they did.

Bogaloosa is not the only area in this same situation. MS and LA were both so hard hit that there are many small towns still without power and phone lines. Even Jackson, the capital of MS is still having problems with phone lines and electricity in many areas. Hattiesburg, MS home of the University of Southern Miss located about an hour or so from Gulfport is still without power and delayig schools.
it will likely be several weeks or even months before the full extent of the storm damage is uncovered. Authorities will end up needing to conduct a house by house search in many of these areas just to recover all of the bodies.
This area of the country is extremely humid, even without the flood waters. The water combined with the decaying process, the other elements and the natural humidity will result in a good bit of toxic mold growth, ultimately rendering some of the homes still standing, as uninhabitable.
Cities like Waveland, MS and Pass Christian, MS are virtually non-existent any longer. People are without jobs as their employment locations have been desemated.
While it is easy for so many to focus on New Orleans as it has been the most publicized and the most chaotic, it is likely not the most destroyed of cities from the physical storm itself.
Most of New Orleans destruction came from the resulting water rise. The cities and areas in MS and other locales were destroyed by the force of the storm, literally leaving NOTHING for people to find on return. Not a photo album, not a child's toy, not even walls.
Growing up on the Gulf Coast I Have lived both. Destruction by water and total destruction by the storm itself. For me, having nothing left to physcially see was by far worse than being flooded out.
God bless all who are living this chatastrophic life changing event. As I watch from my home in Colorado my heart is breaking.
