I've been informed there will be a press conference by Beth Twitty at 5 PM today at the Wyndham Hotel in Aruba.
As for press coverage of the released suspects, media is said to be being given a very short photo opportunity upon their release. The word on the street in Aruba is that authorities are also very sensitive to the actions of American media in this regard. Potentially, any perceived harassment of the suspects by media outlets could result in certain news organizations being forced to leave the island.
This post is also available at Blogger News Network.

What?? This whole thing is out of control.Im sick to death about this and I will never visit Aruba!Poor Beth she will never find her daughter and be able to lay her to rest.My heart and prayers go out to Beth Twitty.

Do you know if the cable networks will cover their press conference or not?
Posted by: bhm mom too (BHT) | Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 12:26 PM
Hope she (BHT) has her attorney(s) advise her on the speech and review her comments PRIOR to the news conference. The last time BHT spoke emotionally after the suspects Kalpoe were released, she turned the island people against her. There's risks of slander, alienating the detectives and island people that she could cause if not carefully advised of consequences of saying certain things. By all means, an emotional appeal is in order. But some caution needs to be heeded. The goal is to keep public opinion with them to continue applying pressure to the authorities and government of Aruba.

I consider them threats against Beth and the media. Someone should investigate these people making these threats. They were not very sensitive to the feelings of a mother whose child was murdered on that "happy little island."
Posted by: angelaberdine | Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 12:45 PM
Do you think Beth just might be announcing her return to Alabama? Aruba just is not big enough for the Holloway-Twittys and the three suspects to be walking around without running into them.
I wonder if she has decided to return home. She is fighting a force so big that has made many mistakes and surely it would be increasing stress on her with them putting this case on their back burner.
The conditions which they were released are crap. I predict the VDSs will now petition the court to be able to leave the island and go to Holland with all the threats they are receiving for their own safety. Do you think this is the way Paulus plans to exit?
Posted by: Jacque | Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 01:10 PM
I can understand Beth wanting to speak immediately, but with media coverage focus on the hurricane, and with this being a weekend (when smaller media normally have a smaller staff), if it can wait, Monday or Tuesday might be better.

Beth is not the reason that there is no "peace" in Aruba right now, it is because someone from your "happy little island" has done something horrible to Natalee Holloway!

Posted by: ustt | Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 01:56 PM
I think Joran will be behind those closed gates most of the time.
They are digging with equipment at the Fishermans Huts.
I understand if I am reading it correctly that the detainment order that was overturned was for 30 days. After that, they can do what they want unless there are charges brought forward.
I can't see Beth & Jug staying. I can see them coming back, but I guess they go or stay depending on how they feel. They most likely feel screwed by the system in Aruba.
I feel that there has to be some charges brought forward.
They ( K2 plus all the VDS ) are going to have to watch their step wherever they try to go.
I am so disppointed and angry at the way this has unfolded ... no Natalee, no arrests.. smirking lying suspects plus their immediate families bs.
I don't believe in Karma becasue ther are too many bad things in the world that happen to good people.
But I beleive in behaviour patterns of sociopaths and other disturbed persons. Joran and the Kalpoe brothers will get caught up in something similar in their lives.......... Hope the media follows the careers of Paulus and his disturbed family.

JanL Should be ashamed of yourself- i love aruba and arubans as well BUT- why dont you put a little THOUGHT into your words- what happened is a TRAGEDY, how do you feel about the little happy islands drug problem and molestation/rape problem? hmmmmm looks like crime is low in aruba becasue UNREPORTED crime is no crime and GREAT for tourism- you are one of the selfish natices ruled by the dollar- incedently you are biting the hand that feeds you, shame on you!!!!!!

______________
Jacque.......ARUBA ISN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR ANY AMERICAN TO COME THERE.......so enjoy.
I'm sure you can now enjoy your little unethical paradise without a crowd now.
The taste in this American's mouth is way too gross to ever say Aruba and vacation in the same breath.
Why on God's green earth would anybody want to put themselves or their children's security into the hands of such deceitful officials.
I don't care if the Aruban peoples are the most kind and generous folk in the world. These families (H and T) depended on officials there for honesty and truth. They got neither as neither did the media trying to report to interested public.
All they got was mind f*ck*ng games played on them. That may be your impression of what to call "law enforcement" but it's a far cry from mine and a whole lot of other people. Don't tell me one thing (we have evidence to detain and hold)...and then turn around and say (we have no evidence to detain and hold).
Don't announce in public you have such and such and then go back and say nothing like that exists.
Don't go and say you have sworn testimony of a witness (ex gardener) and that it is as good as someone coming in to testify......and then have the judge say the testimony is no good because the "gardner has left the island"...I'd love to know if he left under his own desire or was he escorted off. And why is this judge discounting his SWORN TESTIMONY...or was that yet another set of lies: the testimony is now sworn and will hold up in court - or was it not?

For those of you bashing Aruba, the kind of suspected crime we are discussing in the Natalee Holloway case happens here in the US too. I live in a very popular summer resort community. We had two date rape situations that we know about this summer and maybe a lot more that we don't know about. Both rape complaints happened right after the women were drinking at local hook up type bars. These bars are what we call "meat markets." The bars are jammed packed with young people having too many drinks. We also have a lot of drinking and driving incidents so many that the locals stay off the road after 10:00.
Girls! Stay out of those bars. Those two women were raped in the dunes in the surrounding area.

Posted by: bhm mom too (BHT) | Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 02:20 PM
Uh, this is not just a case of rape, Natalee totally disappeared from the face of this earth, while last seen in the company of these three men.
These three men were not taken in to proper custody, the car properly searched, their houses properly searched for over 10 days.
Therein lies the loss of this case, courtesy of the police chief and father of chief suspect.
Blame the victim all you want, but the deck was stacked from the moment the crime was committed.
It is perfectly clear, within the coverage of this case, which we were told Aruba has such a low crime rate that murder is so rare: that is a farce.
The refinery worker was found with his throat slashed. Poor Aruba, one known murder and another possible within two weeks for such a happy island? Oh, and the "known" murder is by the wife/girlfriend? I don't think so, but then what can we do since accordding to the swell authorities she has confessed (which of her 12-23 statements was this said?). How convienent.
No, one happy island this is not.
And yes, we have plenty of problems within our own country, within our own states. But this is not a game of gotcha, and two wrongs have never made a right. This is simply a terrible, in your face cover-up for all the world to see. This is an absolute case of trying to wear down parents to the point of going away, like who knows how many others in various other situations (probably not murder, but countless rapes I'm supposing).
I'm certain Aruba will live to regret this case and their decision ro continue down the road of see no evil, hear no evil but do plently of evil.

I really truly do feel for Beth and Dave as they do not know the whereabouts of their daughter and apparently no one else does either except maybe Natalee herself if she ran off or someone who may have harmed her.Her efforts have failed to produce any evidence so far.
The best thing she can do is to let the authorities do their job and conduct their investigation and in the meantime she should go back to Mountain Brook and resume her investigation.More than likely she will uncover more from those kids than she will in front of the nightly TV shows.
Perhaps the first place she should look are the ones on the rip that should have at the very least looked out for Natalee and that would be the big ol football playing Twitty twins seeing as they were related and all albeit only stepwise.
Well goodness the Twitty twins names have never been revealed. They have never been interviewed and they sure as hell did not remain in Aruba after their cousin was reported missing.I find it mighty strange that they have not been on TV or been involved in the search for Natalee.Yes Beth should start there first and work her way down.
From all indications Beth have spent a total of 5 hours talking with the folks on the trip.Hell she spends more time primping for her news conferences.I think she will really be shocked when she learns that the truth to Natalee's disappearance is right there in the city limits of Mountain Brooke.
As far as whether the networks will carry her press conference,a few will but it will not be debated by a panel of guest for hours on in for the news channels have some bigtime stuff to cover on the coast and they simply will not devote time to air what has been aired repeatedly for the last 3 months.Heck she has only been on Nancy DisGrace once this week.
It is time that Beth realize that everyone knows that Natalee is missing and that we do not need to be reminded 10 times a day.My heart goes out for her but reality has to set in for her that either Natalee will never come home or maybe one day perhaps she will. The media and all who have helped have exhausted their resources with all of the endless coverage. My thinking is we may see Betty for a total of maybe 2 hours the rest of the year. But then again we know what she looks like, dont we?????

Kathy I feel the same way as you. And Patrick, I agree... I just hope she can contain herself after all of this. I am outraged and I don't even really know Natalee Holloway... but a mother's rage is something firey... pray for Beth to stay calm if she comes face to face with them. :) Bless everyone involved in this case... even the boys:/

Posted by: bite | Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 03:43 PM
I agree that Beth should go home, or at least change her attitude, which has not helped her so far. In reality the major media outlets have used Natalee and Beth and the Twittys and the Reynolds, etc., as News when there is no news. I believe the whole frenzy came about when Greta’s audience share and ratings surprisingly surpassed O’Reilly’s Factor after three consecutive shows on Natalee. Of course, if the formula works why change it. So everybody followed suit. But the effect is wearing out.
Same thing with the blogs and the forums, when there is no fresh news, they all remain pretty active, or at time become socialization centers, until eye catching fresh news come along. Then all concerned for Natalee move over to another thread, to another blog, to another Forum.
It is sad and even cruel, but in time people will pick up and move to other interests and the sooner Beth Twitty realizes this, the sooner she will regain the mental balance that will allow her to perhaps explore other possibilities on what may have happened to Natalee. From the beginning, that was the main mistake. Over focusing on the three major suspects, suspicion of corruption, quick convictions, and not enough exploration of options.

No evidence? These 3 all confessed. "Anything you say can be held against you" They voluntarily lied. It's the same as a confession. It's actually better. A confession can be forced. There is no plausible reason to offer a lie unless you are guilty, none. It amazes me that some say "no evidence".

Other options? Look at the facts from the beginning.
1-Last known people to see the girl alive lied many, many times about what happened.
2-Some authorities involved are friends and relatives of suspects.
3-Web sites with pics and comments from and about the main suspect indicated unnatural sexual tastes; including comments from friends about being "kinky".
One might take a weak lead and develop it with speculative leaps of logic, as many of us do here. Or you might follow the most obvious of leads as stated above. Opinion; These suspects are liars and criminals and it's a damn shame they are walking. I hope this follows them for the rest of their lives.
Posted by: mc | Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 04:35 PM
I think the people withholding evidence here are the MB "children" (tweety's vocabulary.)
I am happy for the boys. Now they should sue people who made their lives miserable. Instead of focussing on the classmates, chaperones etc they thought it was easier to pick on the island boys.

MC:
It is true that one must follow the most logical lead. Just like when I try to open a door I choose the key that I think is the right one. But when the key doesn't open, I feel compelled to try another one.
If the most obvious lead has not worked, then I would explore other possibilities. As far as the authorities being friends or relatives of suspects, I honestly do not believe that van der Straaten would have put his reputation on the line for Joran. I don’t know the guy, but I did believe the dozen or more of Aruba sources in the news, blogs, forums, that in one way or another vouched for the ex-Chief of Police as being a career professional of incorruptible trajectory. Even NH’s forum “code talkers” referred to him as such.
One more thing. Does being "kinky" or aspiring to portray oneself as "kinky" suffices for being convicted as guilty without due process of law?

The word on the streets, blogs, MSM, hearts & minds in America is that we are also very sensitive to the actions of anti-Natalee and Anti-American media in this regard. Potentially, any perceived harassment of Natalee's family by so-called-Aruban media outlets and agitpropaganda organizations could result in certain news organizations's tactics being even more widely exposed to the world.

Tweety's?? ROTFLMAO God, I love a good sense of humor! I'm one of those 'mericans who is not boo-hooing over Jug and Beth's little sweetheart. Bratalee learned the hard way that life outside Mayberry Brook can be dangerous and spooky. Booga booga!! She, like the rest of the Mayberry clan, is about as innocent as Paris Hilton. If their mommies and daddies had instilled values in these brats, incidents like this would decrease. Liqour and kids don't mix, parents. Oh, and Jug, just a reminder that murder is illegal in Aruba too. Rednecks have a tendency towards violence and must be treated like wittle kids. Enjoy your freedom, Joran!

JANL FAN Get over yourself and grow up. Honestly, you need an attitude adjusement, along with a sense of propriety. You use some pretty nasty language throughout your post, and that places you in the Brat Class too. Innocent people should not be harrassed, and certainly the victim of a probable murder should not be maligned. All family members of EVERYONE in this case deserve common decency, which apparently you lack in a major way.

Lies and lies and lies and lies. People lie to hide the truth because they preceive the truth will bring them or someone else negative results.
orinthal simpson was found not guilt and walked. there are no other suspects and no investigation. not quilty and case closed. Criminals walk all the time.
My reference to kinky was another indicator of perhaps guilt. If the last person to see Ms Holloway had a web site about butterflies and moonbeams, it would fit into the category of security guards; a dead end. However, I personally saw the pictures of a half-naked male youth being choked with a dog leash by the suspect. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, well, you get my point. It is a strong piece of the puzzle. I have done some investigations in my work; lie detectors, interrogations, backgrounds, etc. and I have found that not one person , I repeat, not one person being questioned and that was innocent of knowledge of the crime being investigated, lied and changed stories. However, all of the guilty ones lie at some point. I think we all can see that the most obvious is the truth. The problem is there is but one link to pull it together. Ms. Natalee Holloway in some phyisical state.

They will not quit until what is covered is uncovered. They were not messing with people who fear easily. They cannot control US citizens. We come in all colors, sizes, shapes and you will never know just how mad we all really are over this. For some reason, we feel as if an undeclared war has been declared on us. I can see from attitudes there that I am not far off the beam. Mark my words. I know. I know the South ...blue

You truly are a moron, but you know that already.
I know that someday a tragedy will hit you like Natalee's disappearance has hit her family. It would be interesting to see how you react at that time when you realize that you are powerless to get justice for your family or encounter people like you who have no heart.
What goes around, come around. You words and attitude have just injured your karma and set the wheels of fate in motion. Enjoy it!

What about lesser charges? Blaming the innocent security guys...filing a false report, obstruction of justice? I thought Aruba had a kidnapping charge if you were the last person seen with someone before they go missing?
This is both heartbreaking and outrageous.

I understand your point about the logical process emanating from the information you have. But there is also information that you do not have and I continue to believe that it sought after, especially if the Joran-Satish-Deepak rape murder has not have fruitful results as far as evidence is concerned. There are many comments to this date regarding MB kids, ex-boyfriends from the US, people with whom Natalee spend the previous days at the casino, connections between MB Alumni and Arubian ravers, and many more that should have also been explored exhaustively.
But, we may be anticipating ourselves. From what I have read the case is not over. They have been released because they are not considered to be flight risky, but remain as prime suspects. We will have to be patient and give the legal system the benefit of the doubt, even if it is not the system that one has as reference.
Posted by: taiphoon | Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 05:52 PM
it's not over yet, over anxious clansmen. Joran wil probably be charged with having sex with a person who's passed out (reads the same as rape, because no consent can be given)
This gives the investigation more time to find out how she vanished into thin air. If you prosecute now you will surely lose because there is no testimony or evidence to indicate that a murder took place. So rejoice, the Joran & Kaploe Bashing can continue, and oh yes those people from aruba who helped search punish them too for the crime of three dorks. As you were.....
