Emphasis far, because as I have said before, I think most of America hovers somewhere between far left and right. By and large, I tend to ignore both fringes. But when one interjects itself into national events - well, they're hard to ignore.
Here are two cases where I think the far left has hurt itself recently, provided they get much attention.
Remember the early reports of prisoners suffering and dying as a result of being abandoned? Well, it never happened. Unfortunately, journalists at the time probably couldn't help themselves because they had a good story. Ever notice how that usually equates to government and the man is bad, bad ... and they seem to enjoy turning convicts into victims when the opportunity permits.
And here, well, they put ideology over compassion - and Americans don't much like that, regardless of your politics. Even many of their own were screaming shame on you, Cindy!

and Cindy was smiling as she was arrested today........Someone needs to help this woman.

You should read the latest on Pat Tillman, a true American hero.

I used to think that attacks on people like Cindy Sheehan were low-brow until I came to realize that it's a specific right-wing strategy. Distract people (and people like you, Dan, are the biggest victims here)
from discussing the real issues by finding an easy-to-attack messenger
Q. "Didn't we go to war in Iraq on false pretenses? Even Colin Powell
says that now."
A. "Cindy Sheehan is a wackjob"
Q. "Why did the administration completely overlook the possibility that
anything possibly go wrong in Iraq?"
A. "Look at this picture making fun of wackjob Cindy Sheehan!! Isn't it
phunny!!! HAW!!!"
Q. "Boy, Bush really screwed the pooch on Hurricane Katrina"
A. "Look at this picture using Hurricane Katrina to make fun of Cindy
Sheehan!!! And read about her absolute lack of compassion for Rita victims as she proves that she cares more about self-promotion. I'll bet she was GLAD her son died so shoe could have an excuse to criticize the war. Boy she's a wackjob!!!"
Q. "Did you see that the Jack Abramoff indictments are spreading into
the Bush Administration itself?"
A. "Cindy Sheehan is being used by the left! But it's OK because she's a
wackjob who hates America, just like every single one of the millions of
Americans who didn't vote for Bush!!!"
lather, rinse, repeat.

Joe,
Go over to Daily Kos and watch how Mrs. Sheehan's own supporters are turning on her.

I am alway's thankful my name is spelled the way it is...........what a difference a "Y" makes.
This was a discrase from the first day of the protest in Washington (Saturday) the day Rita hit. Late in the day when they finally showed clips of the so called tens of thousand in attendance (few thousand) all I could ask was why are you big mouths not on camera screaming to help the hurricane victims. They never gave these folks in TX a second thought. The reason is given in Miss "Y"'s comments.
Ugggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh nothing makes me want to slap someone more than a "Why me person".

Phoenix,
I ignore the Cindy Sheehan story when at all possible. I read about her case, sympathized with her the way I sympathize with any woman (i.e. Beth Holloway) who loses a young son or daughter (no matter the circumstances) and then move on. I keep my eye fixed on real issues. The left and right should both be ashamed for exploiting her.

I can't e-mail so I'm posting this. Haven't seen it anywhere else but in the New Orleans paper (nola.com). Link is at http://www.nola.com/newslogs/tporleans/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_tporleans/archives/2005_09_26.html#082732

Rumors of deaths greatly exaggerated
Widely reported attacks false or unsubstantiated
6 bodies found at Dome; 4 at Convention Center

Well, Joe, you certainly didn't avoid the story in your lengthy comment above.
Beth Holloway has class.
Cindy Sheehan doesn't know what class is. As well, Cindy Sheehan is exploitation anthropomorphized. Throw yourself to the wolves and expect to be eaten. Do it with a mirror in your hand and expect to be eaten twice.

LOL. I was doing precisely that to illustrate how much of red herring Cindy Sheehan is. You guys are grasping at straws now. It is, or should be, so nakedly obvious how much of a mistake this was, and brainwashed people like you (who are the only people left who believe that this war was the right thing) have to resort to attempts to discredit a distraught mother by disparaging her.
Lesson to you and any other MSM reading stiff out there who still believes that the Iraq invasion was the right thing:
You are COMPLETELY ALONE!
Even the leaders who got us into this secretly know how much of a mistake this was. More of them were opposed to it to begin with than you realize, and now almost ALL of them recognize that it is a horrendous boondoggle.

I'm with you on this Joe, Ms Sheehan's mission is protesting something she believes is not right, "The War In Iraq", every american and allied was misinformed about WMD....this is not a war about munitions or armies, but to establish democracy in a Islamic world, a world with religious extremist...do we belong there for this purpose.....don't care who is taken out, terrorism will always be around....

Hi Joe,
When Cindy Sheehan first became major news, I totally supported her right to do the things she had done as long as she did not harm the person or property of another.
I now think she has been commandeered by the MSN for a larger show, much the same as you. Whether she is a willing participant, or that dense, I do not know.
My best response to this is that everyone should ignore Cindy Sheehan, and it will go away.
Like you, I was against this "war" as well, for many reasons, not the least of which is tht my son is there right now...but...
I also remember Vietnam. (which I was for) Close to 60,000 dead for nothing. I think that no matter how much I was against it initially, we have no alternative but to stay the course now, at least until we can turn it over to the Iraqi's.
Do I think it will last? No. I think they will go right back to where they have been for the past 4000 years, but we have to at least try, and if they lose it, well tht's their fault.
The fact that this administration is trying to get into it with Iran, is another story in and of itself...and will amount to national suicide because of the treaty obligations with Russia, who in turn also have bi-lateral treaties with China. We will lose based upon how the past administrations and this current one handle our military.
But. back to Cindy Sheehan. I think the media has given this situation a life of its own, and the quicker attention wanes, the quicker it will be over.

Better reason to get out of Iraq and go back to the tables with negotiations to save our own butts

Yes...but the dead. If my son dies over there, I want to see something positive in return. Do I think it would be worth it? No. But I think the dead should have something to say about it.
I think that if we do not pull out of the 33 different countries we are "policing" then what we have to say in negotiations will not matter. Our guys are spread out all over the world, and...we buy our ammunition from the communist Chinese. If they want to do us in, it should not be too difficult since Clinton gave them a base in the Bahamas from which they can disrupt supply. He gave them the Panama canal from which they can disrupt supply lines, and he gave them Long Beach naval yard....not to mention most of our military secrets.
Of course, everyone was entertained by the Monica Lewinsky deal, while the REAL deal was going on behind our backs. TV works, and TV works exceedingly well on Americans with our "I need entertained" mentality.
