There is no double jeopardy - actually I believe the opposite is the case under Dutch Law. Not only can a defendant appeal a guilty verdict, the prosecution can appeal a verdict of innocent to a court of review.

A defendant in the states can appeal a guilty verdict as well, and the prosecutor can file new charges, in both cases only if misconduct or new evidence is presented.

Hiya Cindi in PA,

Love the post; however, would it be safe to add that the prosecutor can file new and different charges? Cheers!

Paulo

I somehow doubt Double Jeopardy exists in Aruba.

It seems impossible to try anyone for anything even once.........

Go Dave!!! We're behind you all the way. Something will pop up soon. Those Kalpoes kids won't be able to walk a straight line for long. History does repeat itself. Joran is too well protected even if he does screw up. Too bad, I would like the truth from him if nothing else. Best of everything to you.

What is the name of that blond that is the "prosecutor"? Karen ? She always acted like she was scared to death of something. Maybe they threatened her with the same thing they did to Natalee? Or maybe with Paulus? Or maybe Joran and Deepak were going to turn their hot tempers on her if she didn't back off?
For all the naysayers;what about these FACTS?
*The prosecutors'(Karen ?) "vacation" to the Netherlands?
*Jan van der Slaaten's "gonna stay, nope, gonna leave after all situation"? After all he was Paulis' good friend and Joran's godfather? I believe he vacationed in a Dutch colony before NOT returning to this case?
Where did they REALLY go and WHO told them what to do with this case? For those of you who think the Dutch will be tougher on van der Sloot and he will get away with less at "college", dream on! Who do you think governs the people in Aruba and were instrumental in getting these criminals off?
*All the incriminating documents that would crucify these boys, because they were made by them, that JUST DISAPPEARED, before the Holloways inside could get them out? And she does have some, trust me!
Don't be so dumb as to think we, Americans, can't figure all this ___ out! We watch CSI and Law and Order faithfully! I bet most of us could prosecute
these dudes without even having a law degree.
To all the ACCUSED and GUILTY-

WE AIN'T GONE-WE'RE JUST REGROUPIN'!

Love that motto!

I helped to crack my younger sister's rape and battery case by stumping into the discovery of a bottle of booze tainted with rape date drug hidden under the air conditioner. The bottle had the finger prints of my ex boyfriend and another man. JVD is a real criminal acts just like my ex bf. Lies, and no conscience, and selfish. I bet JVD may have carried something with him fleeing to Holland with his smart ass dad PVD. Let's find out.

I believe that he has gotten a "taste" for his "romantic" approach. It will only take a mild slip up or someone in the future blowing the whistle on his actions to bring this situation back to the limelight.
