AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - Armed men broke into an upscale Amsterdam home and kidnapped the daughter of a millionaire whose fortune came from selling chemicals, including to Iraq, police said Tuesday. Her children were left unharmed.
Police said "robbers" stormed into the home of Claudia Melchers, 37, late Monday and took her away. They said they were treating it as a kidnapping.
Kidnapping for ransom is rare in the Netherlands. The most famous case was the abduction of beer tycoon Freddie Heineken in 1983, for which the kidnappers were paid $10 million. The two kidnappers were released after lengthy prison terms, and one was killed last year in a gangland-style shooting.

HMMMM....interesting. !!!

I doubt that any witnesses or evidence will disappear in THIS case. Take a number, find Natalee first.

is this the same person?

@mc: no, this is a site about a German school, not a Dutch millionaire. Both Claudia and Melchers can be either Dutch or German. Evidently there is more than one Claudia Melchers.

Bring her to Aruba and we'll help find her. We know all the characters in the lineup. We even know what areas *don't* have cesspools (Oranjestad & hotel row). The hospital has no incinerator. Feed the monkey. Sharks off Boca Maho may or may not eat People (catch of the day?). Does she have a cell phone? Go to C&Cs on Wednesday, it's Ladies' Night & she'll show up there, or check the crack houses.

Any relation to Mirjam Melchers? Looks like a family resemblance.......

My prayers for Claudia and her family. No need to become wiseguys on this page, NH blog addicts! Claudia is human too.

You're one sick creature. Seriously, what is wrong with you? Don't you have useful things to focus on? Try to handle the bitterness inside of you, for your own sake.
The level of your stupidity is unbearable, gosh. Chill out now.

Don't worry dutchgal - Granny is harmless!

Prayers for Claudia and her family. I just said one. Such a sad tragedy...faith and hope to the family...and more prayers.

It wasn't my idea. It was Aruba LE's. But you're right, I should have credited attribution.

Guess we should call her GrannyTroll if she keeps posting stuff like this. Not just dumb, but also not funny. I could handle it if GT had a sense of humour, but alas.......

You're so clever.
Good luck with yourself, guess ignorance is a bliss.

Be courteous and respectful concerning the Holland lady recently kidnapped. She is a human being. Does her husband's chemical company produce the date rape drugs? The thing that makes my blood run cold is the hopefully remote possibility that her kidnapping represents a counterattack in the Natalee Holloway case. "Here. We have captured two people. Let's trade."

For my knowledge they make poison for agriculture use and stuff. No drugs or something.
it's btw the father of the woman.

Holland has brought a curse on itself by bring VDS into that country and overlooking his connection to the NH case. Justice? We shall see.

No more news since last night? Some of you are so venomous. Holland sent at least 3 pumps and 5 experts to New Orleans immediately, and all you can do is spew bitterness. Grow a heart, and a brain, or at least have a little class. Most of my fellow Americans have a heart, and I am sure there are many prayers for Claudia and her family. Hope tomorrow brings good news.

Update: Claudia Melchers has been found and freed by Dutch police. She is unharmed. No information yet about arrests, but this is fresh off the press.
Posted by: Northerner | Thursday, September 15, 2005 at 03:34 AM
Further update: she was released by her captors, not freed by police. The ransom demand was for 300 kilos of cocaine. ?????? Somebody planning a big party or what?

Claudia's release is wonderful. Thank goodness, good work by any and all involved in her release.
