Somehow, no matter how I write it that headline doesn't come out sounding good - but it should. blogging buddy Steve Huff was mentioned in a recent news article on the capture of Michael Mullin, a fellow who was hunting down and killing Level 3 sex offenders from the government's list.
Seems Mullin turned the sexual predator awareness program into the Division of Fish and Game. Said Mullin, Rabbits are so small when it comes to hunting, I decided to try going after bigger game." Okay, he didn't really say that, and I don't support lawlessness - but you have to admit, the concept does have a certain appeal in this instance.
Drop by and tell Steve congratulations.
Mullen, 35, is being held on $1 million bail in the Whatcom County Jail after turning himself in Monday. He said he wants to plead guilty to the crimes, although he has not been charged. Mac Setter, the Whatcom County chief criminal deputy prosecutor, said charges likely won't be filed until late today.
Mullen has told police he was motivated by the case of Joseph Edward Duncan III, a sex offender charged with killing a family in Idaho and kidnapping two children as sex slaves, Ambrose said. His most recent letters, Ambrose said, now also refer to his own alleged abuse. The Internet confession apparently was erased shortly after it was posted. However, a copy was posted on a Web log called The Dark Side.

A level 3 sex offender doesn't deserve to be alive. It is innocent children who are at risk. How is ok to set someone free with the understanding that there is high likelihood they may repeat the offense? I think these people who destroy childrens lives don't deserve to be alive. Two wrongs don't make a right but one wrong doesn't make a right either.

I say give him a medal and a key to the city..
He did what the government should do.. Protect us and eliminate the evil and dangers...

I don't think what he had done was so wrong. There are laws to protect the pedophiles, but where are the laws that protect our children?

For the record, I can see why Mullen did what he did, if his explanations hold true. Most of us who have kids of our own understand the man's motivations. But his short-term action may have done long-term harm, that's my concern. Law Enforcement HATES vigilantism. It's a big screw-you to them. Plus, if you don't think that those on the left who are already whining about the infringement sex offender registries present to the rights of offenders who have 'done their time' won't jump all over Mullen's crime with hob-nailed boots, you're wrong. Sure, the majority of folks reading that a guy offed two level III offenders are going to say, "Way to go, Mike," and I understand. But down the road, he may very well have just done more harm than good. Thanks to Dan for the link!

There really are none Shari. Day after day you read the papers, stories of step parents murdering kids, friends of parents doing harm to children. If you kill OR rape an adult you face life in prison, kill a child, 5 years tops.
I do not justify what this guy did, but I can understand where he was coming from. Of course I read the stories about Eric Rudolph and I can understand him to an extent. As long as our laws fail to protect children, we will continue to have this happen. But let's face it, this guys desire to get even did not begin with children in the news, it goes back to his own abuse. Murder is still murder, now he will pay the price.

All I can say to this is "Way to go, Mike." If the LE doesn't like vigilanteeism, then they better get the job done themselves. We have been protecting the guilty and punishing the innocent in this country for a long time. Maybe people have had enough. Those who hurt little kids should get tortured first, then hanged. Maybe if we had some painful, terminal, examples, then this behavior would not be so rampant.

kill all level 3 offenders and save us some headaches

Taking the law into your own hands is not the answer. The answer is getting laws changed from the bottom up. The greatest crimes commited are those against children. You sure as hell do not see parents of the most noted child abuse cases in this country, out hunting for blood. That is not the answer, get off your ass, contact your local government, be ready to give some input.
I for one am not buying "mike" was abused and that is why he choose to hunt people down. There is much more going on in this guys head than getting even.

I just saw a program on "Devil's Island". It is now vacant....send all sexual predators there to survive on their own...after all, if it was good enough for the French...it should be fine for our predators.
