Is the Army Corps of Engineers actually working on the levee or is it just locals? I only hear locals on TV and this is the first step for nothing much else can be done as long as the water is rising. Going to drown all that have survived so far. If the water is coming from beneath instead of over the levee, there is no way to stop it. Sea level leveling out, etc.

I hope they can clear out the entire city..That is one unhealthy place for anyone to live..Maybee divert them to other cities until it is a liveable safe place again...

It will take years and years to ever make new orleans new again. many places will never be the same. lost forever.
Pray and do what you can when you can to help anyone anywhere in this tradegy. There is plenty of time in the future to help. It will take years, do not forget this.
God bless all these people everywhere. MISSISSIPPI, ALABAMA, FLORIDA and beyond.

Pray and donate to the various agencies for the good people of LA. MS. AL.
We donated to Red Cross. My husband is thinking of volunteering to help in those areas. I hope and pray they can fix the levees asap. In the meantime where will all the refugees live and get jobs and put their lives back together till they can return back home.
This is all to surreal and I guess we just can't comprehend the severity of it all and the repurcussions to our economy.

Anna, I understand the Corps of Engineers have been there for a while. They are trying to figure out a way to stem the water from the Ponchartrain. You know the bridge is about 25 miles long. They are going to try dropping 3000-pound bags of sand and cement in there.
I cannot believe this mayor did not do a better job of getting his people out of there. Last year, when they were threatened this way, he was unprepared and swore if it should happen again he would be prepared. Neither of their politicians seems to have the wherewithal to get anything done and are leaving it all to the federal government. I think all the locals are doing is looting. I should stay in bed when I am mad.

The authorities did everything possible to get people out of the area. On the coast they were making the people who refused to leave sign a notice and give information of their next of kin. Many people who have lived here all their life, all their family here, are the ones who did not want to leave.
In our area we have buses and buses of people who came from New Orleans. The city provided the transportation at no cost. We don't have electricy or water here but at least the thousands of people who made it this far are safe. Thousands of them were on public transportation.

NO, the mayor did not act fast enough.
AT THE FIRST SIGN that it was a 5 category, they should have started getting people out.
THEY WAITED TO LONG...they were still partying ...remember!
Shephard Smith has "begged" for help for the people in the area he is at.
They act stupid about getting anyone to that sight!

I know what you mean.... The looting in New Orleans reminds me of the beginning of The Stand by Stephen King... I'm just trying to figure out how those mental giants who are stealing the plasma screens and stereo equipment expect to get them out of the city.

Yo! How do you expect they're gonna watch the hurricane news without the widescreen?

And how stupid are the people trying to arrest them. What a waste of man power. They could be directing those people that are on foot.
