go here for the washington parish/bogalusa message board. i haven't found anything definite, but it's comforting to know there (so far) haven't been any deaths or injuries reported there.

My grandmother's house and other family are in Bogalusa. We've talked to some who traveled to Baton Rouge for fuel and supplies. My mother and father are driving down today to see what they can find. Overall, we have heard that their main problem was wind damage. I will post another message when they get back...hopefully, tomorrow. Keep praying!

I have family that live in Angie, LA just outside Bogalusa. They are the Mozell and Cynthia Brock. I last talked to them on Sunday, there hasn't been anything on the news or internet on the condition of Washington Parish. If anyone knows anything about my people or the condition of Washington Parish, please email at bellneko101@yahoo.com or call (619) 207-0897. Right now I'm in the Navy, based in Japan. I feel hopeless over here, pleae help.

I was in Bogalusa during the storm visiting my parents. They live in theFounders Drive area in the northeast part of town. The storm began to blow down limbs, etc. at around 4:30 am. We lost power at 6:00 am the storm progressed all morning. We received somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-7 inches of rain in the early hours and then the heavier winds started to blow around 10-11:00 am lasting until around 2-3:00 pm.. The ground was very saturated, so many trees were uprooted and many more were snapped off around 20-30 feet in the air. My parents neighborhood was devastated. Roads and yards were filled with debris. Their neighborhood is very heavilly wooded. I would say 90 % of the homes on that side of town had trees on them 75-80% had trees in them. There was major structural damage to most homes. Some cars destroyed. Some street flooding that subsided by Tuesday. It seemed that there were very few pines left standing and none had needles. There were no power lines in tact and there are very few power poles standing. A neighbor from across the street works for Entergy and said that it was estimated that power would not be restored for at least 6 to 8 weeks. It is very hot, humid, and most of the homes I saw will be uninhabitable because of heat and mosquitos entering through damaged roofs. I thought that no one could possibly have suffered more damage. It was a war zone, total devastation. And then when I first found electricity outside of Meridian, MS and found a hotel in Birmingham we saw that the devastation on the Gulf Coast was even much greater. Bogalusa was on the northeast side of the eyewall and, I guess lucky not to get the kind of wind the coast got. I can't imagine that even 1 tree would be left standing. I moved into my neighborhood when I was 6 years old ( 9 when Camille came through) and if you had dropped me in there Tues blindfolded and asked me where I was it would have taken me some time to tell you. But I do not want to alarm everyone. I did not and have not heard of any casualties from there. But it will take a long, long time to restore damaged buildings and the power and, I would guess. to find the labor to start repairing and rebuilding homes. Several people asked me to make calls to family members to tell them not to return there and to enroll there children in other towns. And those left behind were all working together to clear roads and help neighbors however they could. Cell phone towers are down or out of power and some land line work for local calls only. I feel sure you will all hear from your friends and loved ones as soon as they are able to get somewhere to call you. Phones and power seem to be out in places from the the Texas line to Penasacola, Fl. Bogalusa is a small town now but has the biggest heart of any town I have ever known and will recover and once again be a beautiful, peaceful area.
