Carnival Today
It's Carnival Day and my week to host ... plenty to choose from here. Stroll through and click on something you find of interest ... and don't forget to come back. Maybe I'll start offering cotton candy. : )
Our blog-friends who reported on the crooked financial dealings at the highest levels of Stevens Institute a few months ago will be interested in this new site. It turns out that the situation is worse than we initially reported, if not (yet) worse than we privately feared. UnEvenStevens is maintained by concerned members of Stevens' community including the great-granddaughter of the Institute's founder.
Remembrance of 9/11: A Hobokenite's effort to document an unsettled time. Clifton's David Greene has some thoughts on what's helpful to remember about 9/11, and what's not.
Remembrance of meals past: Suzette, aka the Soup Lady, recalls a recipe for Peruvian Potatoes. The Rix mixes blueberries and Sugar Pops. Shamrocketship takes her last tea with Grandma. Frogsdong does Gaebel's, in New Brunswick. Janet has the Swedish meatballs with a side order of home furnishings. Dojo Mojo rustles up some Jersey City soul food, and what do you know - the bistro incongruously has itself a pretty slick website. Now that's 'movin' on up'!
Political outrage: A year ago, Jersey's Governor talked about "his" truth (and you know what that means). Roberto remembers. Dave does too, and looks at the New Jersey Homeland Security boondoggle. Corzine refuses to rule out new taxes, possibly because this method of revenue-raising was just ruled unconstitutional. To remind us that Jersey has not cornered the market on fraudulent politicos, Jane writes about Yemen's own King of Spin, and Danny does Alaska. "Dear Mr. President: Please talk to Cindy", says Tami. Karl of Atlantic City agrees. Grok the Idiom does not.
Non-political outrage: Joe's billed fraudulently, and he's mad as hell. And from the Opinion Mill: Voltaire shakes the House"
Words of encouragement: Fausta on the economy. Record oil prices? Tigerhawk points out that, adjusted for inflation, prices in the late 70's far outpaced today's.
Pausing to ask directions: "Feeling uninspired too? What helps you get re-motivated?" "Beats me. Let me tell you how the hacks do it."
Why kids fail: Because school administrators do. Because the teachers' union and politicians are too busy playing at politics.
We blame the heat: They're pleading nolo contendre at This Full House. Bill Power finds the Warped Tour more warped than usual. And brace yourself for the August splendor that is Jimbo vs. Da Sprinkler.
'Ghetto shopping' in Elizabeth: The Contrarian meets The Bargain Man and comes to grips with change in his hometown.
Literary follies: Bibliophile Gil Roth declares: I can handle stupid; I can't handle stupid that thinks it's smart. Fausti continues on her quest to read "every book on every list ever written."
Saying goodbye: Ken Shane notes the passing of Ibrahim Ferrer, the Cuban singer made famous by The Buena Vista Social Club. Remembering Peter Jennings. Kate lets go, as a good neighbor and friend moves on.
Saying hello: Sluggo embraces his inner geezer. Mary Madigan embraces self-defense: "The New York City area needs to catch up with the rest of the country. Self-defense isn't just an American right, it's a responsibility." New blog in da house: The Daily Doormat
Travelin' guise: Westward Ho, Fretta! Furey goes East (but only to Manhattan and only for a cheesesteak). Sharon explores the gubernatorial politics of Petty's Island. For some killjoys, apparently there is such a thing as too much fun on the Jersey Shore. But for most, the summer is speeding by too fast.
A tale of two cities: The Jersey City Skyline, by Megan McArdle
Jersey Goddesses: Erin's chalky comedic star, on the rise. Goddess Nordette proclaims: "I am not a playah!"
Photographing bygone eras: The Titanic. Asbury Park.
Arguing for pluralism: Working together despite differences, by Xpatriated Texan
Flog golf: Coffeegrounds describes Springfield during the PGA Championship: Lots of blimps and Buicks - but no blacks.
Tata's family trip: "Daria: Sweetheart, Mommy didn't mean to make Auntie Tata sound like a $2 whore! Tata: Honey, Auntie Tata doesn't really think your Mommy's a judgmental bitch!" Poor Impulse Control
Sopranos Put A Contract On Yogi, Boo-Boo: Don Surber offers to help Jersey out with its bear problem.
What is 'dip-it'......and why does it get a whole aisle at the A&P? We don't know. PDC Ryan doesn't know. Do you know?
Next weekend, the Carnival heads over to SloppyDawg
The Carnival of the New Jersey Bloggers can also be found at The Truth Laid Bear's ÜberCarnival

Nice job!! You missed me but it's okay, I'm telling you people wouldn't want to go to a dinner party at a strip joint.

Dan thanks for the carnival/911 link..
i dont know if you plan on doing anything for 911 , but i have some photos i can send you..
It amazes me how quickly most people forget...
I guess if you (not you the general public) only witnessed it on tv..its not "real"
I, like many others, have my own 911 story. I was supposed to be on the 82 floor in a meeting with Port Authority at 9:15am.
We had just returned from a cruise two days before and i was really tired. Usually I am the early one and my husband the late sleeper.
This day it was the opposite..my husband said there was an accident at the WTC.. i looked at the tv.. that was no accident.
Being a natual conspiracy buff...or paranoid ..call it whatever you want but since 93.. i shaked when i had to go there because my instincts and from everything i ever read.. they, the fanatics were not done.
I was in the WTC 8-28 for a meeting and i could not wait to get out of there...
I didnt mean to ramble on but i do have photos of Union Square Park and the aftermath ..(taken from the street)
