Amber Alert: 12 Yr. Old NC Girl Abducted By Sex Offender

The Rocky Mount North Carolina Police Department has activated the Amber Alert after the girl was reported missing on Friday morning. Authorities say she was discovered missing from her home Friday at about 6:50 a.m. Authorities suspect that she was abducted by a registered sex offender.

Jodie Renee Collie is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 114 pounds. Authorities say the girl has blonde hair and green eyes.

Police say the abductor, Phillip Daniel Denkler, 27, is a registered sex offender. He is described as a white male with straight, short, black hair and brown eyes.

The best you can do is pass this info onto everyone you have email contact with in your area.
Or if you have time, print and post where you live.
The experts say, most of those abducted by a non family member don't live but a few hours. This just makes me sick. The title sexual predator needs to be changed to rapist!

Sam, I agree. An assault like this on a child should be a mandatory life sentence. My question is Why do we put so little value on the life of a child? Read an article tonight, this guy raped a child for two years, from the age of 7. He will be sentenced next week, the judge on the case has stated, he will give him 90 days and rehabilitation! What kind of justice is that? I have a neighbor, grew up with him. His wife is/was thank god an alcoholic. There were many violent fights in this family. They had two kids, both taken away, which I agreed at the time should have happened. This was 4 years ago, they just had another baby. Through the last 4 years I can attest, there have been no fights, the wife is sober, they are doing good. Two weeks ago their new baby was taken from them. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE.

as for sex offenders - i'm with Geraldo on this one.....they are born that way - you can't rehab them -

they showed an island off the coast of Wash State i think it was last night where people who have served sentence but are still kept on this island to live because they are just not compatible with general population.

i believe every person who is convicted of a sexual offense.....doesn't matter if it is violent.....because a sex offender is merely working up to the next level of violence with each offense.....anybody who is convicted of a sexual offense or or or DOMESTIC OFFENSE - they should be forever taken out of general population of the citizens of our country and put on an island. let them deal with each other. and if they get crowded let them deal with that too.....like fruit flies in a fruit jar!

and i'm only talking about citizens of the US...if they are foreign (which our jails are filled up with! urgh)..if they are foreign immediately deport them, drop them off by a plane with a parachute down into the rain forests of south america and if they survive good for them.....

I agree with the above message. Pedophiles can never be rehabilitated and if allowed out in public will only repeat the offense. They need to be put on an island (least costly), or imprisoned, or be on house arrest with an electronic leg chain if they leave the premises.

The authorities in NC (at least Charlotte) have been issuing an amber alert over the radio -- I heard one yesterday saying the guy drives a beige sedan with NC plates with NMN as the first prefix. Thanks for covering this Dan! It would be nice if all of the people who have commented here at your site on the Natalee Holloway disappearance -- would take an avid interest in other missing persons cases as well.

I may be very involved with the Natalee case, but I always do what I can to research all missing people! It's so sad that there are so may children being abducted lately, what has gone wrong here? I agree with castration and exile to an island!

There was a time, not so long ago, when I blamed myself for this pedophilia problem. (Hear me out…)

Why can’t we get our arms around the solution to pedophilia? Let me rephrase the question: Who represents your local district in your state? Okay… I’ll try another one… what state district do you live in? (Bear with me…)

If we cannot answer these questions, we are part of the problem – not part of the solution. A law that would sequester pedophiles in sex-offender-communities would have to be enacted by each state; we must “empower” our local politicians to enact something that is criticized as being “politically incorrect”.

Now, looking back in time… somehow, we managed to intern Japanese Americans during the war? And we forced American Indians from their lands… nearly wiping out their culture? BTW, they didn’t even do anything wrong! It was not only politically incorrect… it was illegal and even immoral. Our government felt empowered to do this, however, because the ruling sentiment of the day was in their favor.

Jessica’s Law is not a panacea, but it’s a good start. Please ascertain who represents your district in your state & tell them you’ll vote against them in the next election if Jessica’s Law is not enacted. I challenge all of the posters on this blog to simply cut & paste this post and email it to your local representative as a sign that you no longer wish to be counted among those who are part of the problem.

Didn't want to bring the entire text of your post down; however, what you state is perhaps one of the most logical and impressive notions brought to this board in months!

This situation just irrks me! Most pedophiles I've seen interviewed WANT to be castrated. But noooo! Politically incorrect. The heck with these funky anklets or wrist bands; have scissors will travel, most just cut them off anyway.

MICROCHIPS are a good start. Insert the microchip in a place where the perps least want it-----you get my point. Try and remove the chip would render the person--male or female--incompetent of having sex.

You can go online and search "contact my congressman" and every senator's email and physical address can be found. The Jessica Lundsford Act needs to be passed in all 50 states at a bare minimun.

I do believe genetics is involved; or at the very least how our bodies react to stimuli.

What you are attracted to, what makes you comfortable, how you feel in general are all mainly the product of your genetic map and/or biological response to stimuli. IMO

That's why I feel it is very important to factor in how people 'feel' about the issues that face us. Address that and we are much closer to a better basis for communication.

And no, triggerfingers, I do Not mean communicating with pedophiles. Although I do believe that the moralistic suppression of healthy sexual desire in this country helps drive individuals to confusion and aberrant behavior, the desire for unformed children strikes me as a genetic anomaly. Not something you pick up watching Pampers ads.

A lot of misconceptions about sex offenders who prefer children on this board. Interesting. I worked at a psychiatric hospital for years and interacted with many whom might be labeled "pedophiles". I am not sure why all of you are under the impression that rehabiltation is impossible. Where do you come up with that? That is certainly NOT the consensus among those who work with and study such behavior. While many (especially those that attract splashy news headlines) AREN'T rehabilitable, there are also many who very well may be. One can't prove this, of course. One thing that holds true of about 99% of those who engage in this sort of behavior is that they were assaulted themselves in such a manner when they were young.

I know that there are those reading this who will conveniently decide to tell me that I'm a bleeding heart and that I'm advocating this or that or whatver, and I'm not, because my opinions are very complex and certainly know the devastating impacts to society perpetuated by predatory behavior on children, and also heard some truly horrible stories. But I also know that many of these are victims themselves, and are sentient humans capable of good.. I don't have an easy answer. But I'm glad that you guys do. It's probably easier to live life that way.

Like so many topics in "modern" American life, this one is indeed complex. There are no doubt pedophiles that are marginally able to benefit from rehabilitation and there is no doubt that some act because they were abused themselves sometime in their lives.

There are many reasons for the majority to say "Who cares?"

Unfortunately, when they sexually molest a child they have probably destroyed part of the life of the child/person they have molested.

At a minimum, they deserve to be locked up for life so there is no chance they may repeat their acts on another child.

From a practical aspect, they should be executed to insure that they do not repeat their acts and do not cost society hundreds of thousands of dollars keeping them incarcerated.

We have reached a point where a few are deeply concerned about the possibility of rehabilitating a misfit and a majority who simply would like to be able to allow their children to walk from home to a ball field without fear that they will be attacked and molested and possibly killed.

Like everything else, there are gradients of behavior in 'pedophiles'. That guy in Lolita was a pedophile, as were the men sleeping with Traci Lords, yes?
I think that many men can learn what society expects of them and learn to control themselves or else. The work of professionals here is invaluable. It is not whether we have the urges (part, I'd bet, of the complicated mix K. Joseph speaks of), it's what we do with them.

That said the man who has the urge to rape some child so young it has no idea what is happening and shows all signs of continuing that behavior should be allowed to mix with the general prison population.
