Hi, I'm just a long time "lurker", as are probably most people reading this blog.

I'll preface this by saying that I don't really know the "behind the scenes" stuff here - I only know what I read on this blog. I began reading this blog about 5 days or so after the Natalee Holloway story broke. For some reason, the legal aspects of this case have just piqued my curiosity. I read comments both here and at Scared Monkeys, and certain posters had some very interesting thoughts and insights to add. One day there was a link to this site, which was great because I found the posts to be even more intelligent and analytical. One of those posters who, I thought, had a lot of insight to add was, "Island Hopper."

As this site got more exposure, more and more people began posting here, which naturally brought the occasional and unfortunate influx of trolls and their ilk. At one point, I don't know when, a particular person began posting in ALL CAPS. I remember thinking, "man this person is annoying." Not a troll, just seemed a little "off." Why? Well, a) they'd usually post in ALL CAPS, and b) because they'd often post things more relevant to a chat room. little one-word posts that, when you're scrolling through a board, give you a lot more "junk" to scroll through. Often these posts were just directed at one specific person, or little in-jokes or other silly stuff. Most annoying though, were the someties pretty hardcore and seemingly excessive and personal attacks. The person seemed to go by the philosophy that the best Defense is a good Offense.
Very negative. An apparent need to reply, whether it added any value or not, to nearly every post that was made. Again, a disproportionate number of these posts did not appear to add much value to the board's primary goal - which, I thought, was finding Natalee Holloway!!!

I just roled my eyes and dealt with it though, sifted through the junk for the informative posts. At some point Island Hopper was "outed" as some kind of fake or something, I don't know - I'm not privy to the details, by the LOUD TALKER. I guess the Loud talker claimed she was being harassed by Island Hopper or something. I don't know. It was probably mutual harassment. Why would IH single out this person in particular? In either case, some sort of investigation was made into this and I guess the moderator of this site banned Island Hopper. I remember thinking that was really unfortunate, since I'd enjoyed reading this person's posts. They seemed also to have valuable info to share, whatever their bias may have been.

I read Dan's blog about this, but it was somewhat cryptic so I really don't know the bg info about this. I kept reading the blogs and comments on this site, since I found the posts from everyone else pretty interestng.

Yesterday, I looked at the comments and the LOUD TALKER, aka Mrs. Jimi Hendrix, was making all kinds of personal attacks on this Island Hopper person... It was truly bizarre from my perspective. I work in the legal field with people with some very severe psychiatric conditions, and honestly began to wonder if this Mrs. Hendrix was also suffering from one of them. From my perspective as an observer, it was disproportionately vengeful, bizarre, negative, threatening, unproductive, and just plain weird. This person appeared to turn a comments page regarding a poor missing girl and her family, into the place to further her own personal vendetta against the infamous Island Hopper.

Her frequent, oneline posts added little value, were often off-topic, and sought to develop little email "alliances" off the board rather than to post opinions and comments about missing Natalee Holloway. this stuff was just really annoying because it was more 'junk' to scroll through, along with posts from the 'trolls'. The theme of many posts changed from one of trying to solve this mystery, to fostering an environment of "cliquishness" and weird little email-pal alliances. I felt like I was in the lunchroom in 7th grade again. psst - i've got a secret... email Dan so he can give you my email and we can chat... Dude. Get a LIFE! Don't waste my screen space wth this junk. Come on. I came here, as many others did, to get to the bottom of the Natalee Holloway case. NOT to read about the Mrs Jimi Hendrix/Island Hopper "drama".

And God forbid one does not share the same views as Mrs. J. You will be reamed over the coals in capital letters.

I have seen Island Hopper's weblog regarding this matter (linked to it from this site) and certainly, 'outing' Mrs. J's name on that blog is wrong.... So why provide a link to it, unless one's goal is to give as many people as possible the real name of the poster known as Mrs. Jimi Hendrix? But I don't think her spelling is that awful, probably just writing in a hurry. I don't know or care. It's not a spelling bee. Seriously, if the worst you've got on someone is bad spelling then how bad can they really be?

I do think a cease and desist order may be able to compel the Hopper to remove the person's legal name from the site. I do not think that this person's site is any more pathetic than the person about whom it's written's attempts to discredit it. The time spent on each is probably comparable.

But really, just take care of it. You've hired an attorney, get it done. Don't give this supposed harasser more grist for their mill. Don't write useless junk about it online. Spend that time solving your problem. Or better yet, get out of your house, get away from your computer, get outside, look up at the sun, find a new hobby, and GET SOME PERSPECTIVE. Don't post things that basically say "THIS PERSON IS A SICK TWISTED WEIRDO - THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL, AND A BAD SPELLER TO BOOT - I HAVE ALL KINDS OF INSIDE INFO AND HAVE CONTACTED THE FBI AND AN ATTORNEY. THEY'VE NOW CHOSEN TO SLANDER ME. BY THE WAY - HERE'S THE LINK TO ALL THAT SLANDER: " ooo. Drama. Come on.

I actually think 'Not a Hand Wringer' might have been speaking more to 'irony', as was I, than literally prioritizing good spelling over bad behavior. We all know bad behavior trumps all....and sometimes there is nothing to do but walk away.

Now don't accuse ME of liberal-speak...I'm just a conservative sitting so far outside the loop that the perspective is pretty good, but still not getting the all the inside jokes and pretty much thinking this whole Ihop vs. RWV flap is pretty ludicrous.

Nice try clown. I also work in the legal profession. Your singling out of one person as being against IHOP is very obvious. There were many here, if you truly were reading ALL comments, who supported the outing of IHOP.

I actually have lurked from the beginning of the Natalee Holloway case and have posted almost as long (under the name gallowaygirl). I never saw anything in POSTS from Ihop that merited a banning. I've seen far, far worse from others. I think too many people have been manipulated into jumping on the 'bash Ihop' bandwagon and if most of these people would take two minutes to reflect, they would realize they have not been personally wronged by Ihop and therefore don't have a dog is this fight.

And it isn't really nice to call people an ass because they have a different opinion. After all Dan did state publicly this was why he banned Ihop...because she suppposedly didn't tolerate differing opinions.

I'm not sure what you mean, Cindi. I singled out one person because she had a vast majority - maybe 30%? - of the posts on that board. Yes, many others were on that boat, but she appeared to be at the helm.

I dont' care if the issue was outing IHOP, or a broken hangnail. The point was, the posts were off topic, numerous, seemed conspiratorial and inciting; and, at times, downright bullying. They just seemed a little excessive. I don't think I was alone in that opinion. As someone who came to the site to read about progress on the NH case, as per the topic, and who has found past posts very interesting, intelligent and informative, it was a change for the worse. My first thought was, "if this is what I have to deal with, forget it, I'll go elsewhere." Again, I don't think I was alone in that feeling, and I thought Dan might want to know that. That's all.

I have no personal preference or dislike for either of these people and am not trying to single anybody out.

As a person working in the legal field, I would like to suggest, when you copy and paste, NEVER EVER repeat yourself by copying the same paragraph twice. Makes you look like an ass, wouldn't you agree?

Yes, I have been reading this site since five days into the story; however I have not read EVERY post since that date. I check in when I can. I have a demanding job and busy life. I just find this story interesting.

Why was my post so long? I don't know, I started writing, and didn't realize how long it was until I was done. No I'm not overly 'emotional' about it, as I said I could care less whether it's about a hangnail or some internet spat. What I DO care about, is if interest in a website that has done a lot of good in providing factual information on the Natalee Holloway case, providing a forum for intelligent discussion, and basically keeping interest alive, wanes because of this kind of stuff.

I thought I would just give my opinion as a casual observer, not someone involved in the thick of whatever discussion was going on. Dan's numbers have gone up quite a lot, and I think that is great, especially considering that it shows how many people are supportive of this case. Point was, all the stuff I wrote about is just going to turn people - lurkers, who comprise the majority of those hits - off of the site. I did not want to see that happen. Sorry.

Regarding the copying and pasting of one paragraph, please rest assured that it was a simple mistake in editing and trying to shorten an already-long post. It was not done for emphasis, and was certainly not a result of plagiarism, if that is what you were implying. It was a simple cut-and-paste error, from my own document, that I had written in this very comment box.

The goal of most website administrators is for more hits, not less, and forums are usually pleased when more people post, so I don't know why you are trying so hard to discourage honest, caring, well-intentioned people from posting. It is unfortunate.
