It's Sunday and there's a Carnival in town.
Also, a note on Internet security. Multiple sources have come forward to inform me that recent problems with the Scared Monkeys chat site are the result of a deliberate hack. That's presently unconfirmed according to their site. One should always take into account the honesty, trustworthiness and security measures used by any web site you are using - particularly if it involves personal or financial information.
RWV was threatened with an attack several weeks ago. As result of the security measures employed by SixApart, an established professional service with millions of users, I'm unaware if an attempt ever took place. If so, it was apparently turned back.
Several readers here who also read there have written to complain as regards moderation practices at SM. I have no personal knowledge of same having been banned prior to entering for some unknown reason. Frankly, I've barely enough time to participate in my own comments area from time to time, let alone someone elses.
Many Internet readers and commenters are extremely computer savvy. I am not and can't begin to understand hacking. I can hardly program my cell phone. If the site mentioned above was hacked, it was most likely someone they alienated through chat area administrative practices, which have been known to draw substantial criticism, as mentioned above.
Now, don't forget the Carnival. I'm grateful that this experience has allowed me to share information with and direct some readership to several worthy web logs.

Hey, Dan,
You get that banned message if you go to ScaredMonkeys.com instead of ScaredMonkeys.net. I think because they have both. In the past it was .com and changed later to .net when converting to new format. If you used .com, you might want to check .net as I have mixed those up when checking for news there before. .net is the new one and one to use.

Why in the world would they ban YOU at SM, Dan? After all of the credit and exposure you've given the SM site, that's crazy!!! Perhaps some moderator that has the "ban power" is annoyed with you about something or is a little jealous of you getting the scoop (on more than one occassion) from your contacts in Aruba before they did. SM banning you sure sounds a little juvenile and petty to me but whatever... I guess you know who your real blog roll friends are, and that's important. It's obvious to me that YOU are a pro and are above the kind of childish behavior that others are exhibiting. Keep up the good work. You have much to be proud of. :)

Dan,
I just used my normal "favorites" link to Scared Monkeys and got this error message:
error 500: Interner Serverfehler
Das angegebene Skript konnte nicht fehlerfrei ausgeführt werden!
Now, I don't speak this language, but I know it is not Microsoft! Hope you have a good firewall, Dan, and take a condom if you plan to surf. It's a jungle out there!

Actually, Dan couldn't be more wrong. A hack on SM was atempted but never happened. There was a problem in the DB and a problem with the recovery as well. When you get a DB as big as ours as fast as we did your gonna run into problems. It was fixed, so no worries.
Thanks for caring!
