Some Details of Kalpoe Interrogation

Allegedly there were differences between the interrogations for the two Kalpoe brothers. The prosecutor still claims their stories changed, their attorney says, "Not so." Now there's a big surprise. emphasis mine.

“The case against them will continue as long as there is still a criminal investigation going.  After the investigation is closed, the district attorney will determine what is going to happen then.  They can for example be summoned, or their case can be dismissed”, said the spokesperson of the OM Mariaine Croes.  The OM has three days to appeal. According to the OM, there are serious complaints against the three boys.  These complaints are based on the fact that Natalee Holloway was last seen with these three boys.  They also have been changing their statements and none of these match other investigation information or witnesses. 

There are also telephone conversations, sms- and chat traffic that points at the three boys.  Lawyer Rudy Oomen picked up the Kalpoe brothers from the KIA prison yesterday afternoon.  There were a lot of media persons with cameras at their house waiting for them.  Oomen is not at all surprised at the release of the brothers.  “All the material was more relieving than incriminating for his client.  The time in prison was very hard for Deepak.  The interrogation techniques used approached more the in the Netherlands banned ‘interrogation method of Zaandam’.   He was put in a pitch dark room for a long time with the air-conditioning on extra high.  He has been put in isolation with no food.”  Oomen had complaint numerous times about this interrogation method.  But the boy remained consistent in his statements and had fully collaborated with the investigation. Also the younger brother Kalpoe was interrogated a lot and his lawyer Elgin Zeppenfeldt does not share the complaints about the interrogation methods of justice.  “According to me, his interrogations went normal.  Based on the evidence they had on him, it was very difficult to keep him detained.”

I would like to comment on the article that Scared Monkeys had on their website that was in the Dutch newspaper, and I quote "The missing teenager Natalee Holloway is portrayed in the media as a very correct, innocent, conservative eighteen year old girl that went on a school trip. Not a girl who goes to Aruba to party hard. But is that realistic? Maybe she wasn't as innocent as her parents portray her as, but maybe that is why she got in trouble in the first place, she was in a place that she couldn't handle and drank alchohol she couldn't handle. Reading the comments about the news articles trying to portray Natalee as a party-hard girl, my comment is this...so what? There still is no justification for her disappearance and possible death. I highly suspect that she didn't "party hard" all on her own anyway, but even if she was the type to party a lot, that still does NOT justify what appears to have happened to her. I don't even understand the purpose of trying to bring up such comments. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Bottom line, she is missing and in all probability dead. Even if she had drank too much and got sick, Joran was still the last with her and in my upbringing, if a young man was with a girl, it was his responsibility to ensure she got home safely. What about common decency and gentleman like behavior? Bottom line, he was responsible to make sure she was returned safely to her hotel once he decided to "escort her". He clearly didn't do that.

I hardly know what to believe except that Natalee is gone and she was last seen by credible witnesses in Kalpoe's SILVER car with JVDS. After that it still seems everything else is contradictory and unsubstantiated.

I can only HOPE the prosecutor actually has more convincing evidence for the judge! This third-hand, unreliable information is what has been driving EVERYONE crazy and raising ALL the speculation and emotions.

Some simple, straight answers from Kalpoes and VDS would have prevented Thousands of hours and dollars from being WASTED - as Joran has labeled one of his past website pictures!

INTERROGATION should not even have been necessary if there is so much innocence here!

We just need the simple truth. That will not be contradictory and suspicious.

I just learned that as the results of Paul van der Sloot training in Holland for a year he did not get the required recommendations to become a Judge and was not sufficiently educated to become a Judge, and that he was notified by the President of the Common Court of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba that he cannot function as a judge and has to look for another function it would be a great time to fire him from the Dutch civil service. Maybe during his honesty testing in the Netherlands he sweated like he did when questioned by Natalee’s mother. Why were his son and he hiding and not searching for Natalee being his son was the last to see her?

I still don't understand why people continue to think that a handful of Aruban officials would be so brazen as to try and conduct a cover up to protect a murderer, right in the face of perhaps the most agressive media network in the world! And not just that, they would also risk hurting business with the source of 70% of their income, and furthermore they would be so stupid as to do this for a judge-in-friggin-training! If an official had even tried to pull this off as a personal favor to PvdS, surely after this media maelstrom, a higher ranking official would put an end to it just to stop the bleeding. I tell you its so much simpler. They blew the investigation, the evidence gathering in the opening phase, by trying to treat one of their own in a sensitive manner. I don't mean covering up, I mean hesitating to pick up suspects. This gave whoever did it time to dispose of evidence. That evidence is now GONE. The Aruban authorities would love to start this one over, but they can't. They now are trapped in the impossible situation of holding 1 person they have no doubt was involved, but absolutely zero hard evidence.

That brings us now to "what can be done?" Nothing in my opinion. You can't go back in time. What choices do the Aruban authorities now have? Manufacture evidence to convict someone they feel is guilty? That would open up another pandora's box they don't want any part of. All they can do now is hold him as long as possible and wait for the inevitable.

What can or should the U.S. do? Nothing. This is not an international incident. Its a terribly unfortunate tragedy that occurred in a foreign land we have no control over. This has happened many times. People make movies about it. But for starters, parents should take note and be aware of where their YOUNG ADULT goes for senior trip, Aruban police should spend a little money and perhaps get some more training on "big time" investigation work, and then Americans and Arubans should probably get back to work on issues that are more common and more problematic in their respective lands.

Added note:

I take a group of high schoolers abroad every spring break, so here is a bit of advice to anyone planning to take a group or any American teen planning to be part of a group: 1) group leader - never agree to sponsor, chaperone, or assist in any way a trip to a party destination(i.e. Cancun, Florida party beaches, Jamaica, Aruba...). You're crazy if you do. Kids go to places like that to PARTY. This will involve alcohol, drugs, sex, fights, alcohol poisoning, late night trips to emergency, broken bones and on and on. You will not have a moment of peace. Go to places like that on your own and party your ass off, not with a bunch of kids it will be impossible to keep up with. Only go on STRUCTURED trips to destinations that will occupy kids time in non-party activities.(even then you must be on the look out for "after curfew" activity)
2) To teens who go on any type of trip abroad, ALWAYS stay in groups. You must NEVER go off alone or allow friends in your group to go off alone. At the very least, the entire group ends up being late because of the one straggler, or in worse situations, kids miss flights, end up in jail for beating up pickpockets, get robbed, or as we have seen even come up missing.

Lastly, speaking as a traveler, island vacations are not my thing. I find those types of destinations usually offer very little in the way of culture or history(no offense to islanders- my dad is Puerto Rican). Nevertheless, I for one would not hold back on travelling to Aruba based on this one tragedy. The horror stories of drugs, cartels, violence, and everything else don't scare me. Most the cities I've lived in had connections to all of that.

I saw a photo that came from Joren's website that was very interesting,,it was a photo of him and another guy and Joren was brandishing a belt in a menacing manner. Now a belt has been found in the vicinity of the lighthouse where the three scoundrels said they went with Natalee, how interesting.
I'd be interested to know where Joren's website is, and if there are archives of what he has written there, and, also, if the two Kalpoe brothers have websites.
It is my understanding that the very reason the two of them are in Aruba is that they were asked to leave Suriname because of just this kind of thing, and they cannot go back.
