Shasta And Dylan Groene Found: Joseph Duncan Arrested

As reported here, eight-year-old Shasta Groene, missing along with brother Dylan since early May has been found alive after being recognized in a Lake Coeur d'Alene Denny's.

Someone live on phone with Fox now reporting 9 year old Dylan has also been found. Reports state that 42 year old Joseph Duncan of Fargo North Dakatoa has been taken into custody.

Offense Background: On January 24, 1980, in the City of Tacoma, Washington, Joseph E. Duncan, age 16, committed a burglary of a neighbor's home. Duncan stole four handguns and ammunition. That same evening Duncan abducted a 14 year-old boy. The boy had been walking in Duncan's neighborhood. Duncan sexually assaulted the boy two times at gun point. He was arrested shortly after the incident.

Duncan was transferred into adult court at the age of 17. There Duncan pleaded guilty to Rape in the First Degree for the abduction and sexual assault of the 14 year-old boy. Duncan was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

September 1994: Duncan was released on parole after serving 14 years in prison.

April 1997: Duncan was returned to prison for violating his parole.

July 14, 2000: Duncan was released from prison after completing his sentence. Duncan was released without parole or probation.

July 21, 2000: Duncan arrived in Fargo.

July 24, 2000: Duncan registered at the Fargo Police Department as a sex offender. The Fargo Police Department evaluated Duncan. Based on the history, profile, and the Minnesota Sex Offender Screening Tool-Revised score, Duncan was classified as a Level III sex offender.

September 27, 2000: The Fargo Police Department conducted a community notification. (Posted 10/2000)

I live in coeur d' alene and have all my life and this is tragic. I am however happy to say that Joe duncan has been sentanced to death or life in prision. Shasta seems happy and doing better. Also would like to say that Dylan's body has mabye not been found. They did find remains of a human but have not said weather it was the remains of a bot, girl, adult or child. What you all may not have known is that acording to the news reports, Shasta has stated she was asleep and her mother had come to wake her up and bring her into the livingroom where the rest of the family was being tied up but it hasen't yet been releast weather or not she saw anyone killed, but that her brother and her were taken, tied up in a truck and latter but in the red jeep you all have seen. People are commingforward saying that they had seen BOTH children while they camp but are not saying how long ago he was seen last. Shasta has also said the two children have been abused. We all hope and pray she is able to get back to a normal life. You can drop off money for Shasta at any bank here in town, it will help greatly!

There has been a little girl missing from Chisholm Mn ( town 6 miles from here) for about 3 years and they are looking at a connection possibly with this Duncan. He had a web page and mentioned her name and that he needed to have make his where abouts known as he was affraid of being accused of the crime.. He had never been questioned in the case. She was about 5 years old.

Hello, I have been sick over this case since it began and now that I see Dylan's face everywhere it seems my stomach won't settle down. I am so angry at the judges and system that has allowed this sick animal to roam free to hurt innocent children and adults. As I understand it the judge in Minnesota claims he was not aware of duncan's past sexual atrocities... HE IS A JUDGE AND HE HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF KNOWING WHAT HE IS DOING. He should be held accountable for his part in this and should be charged with aiding and abetting a criminal action. Just the statement that he was not aware shows he should not be anywhere near a judge's position. He is a menace to society and as far as duncan is concerned... he deserves the death penalty for his crime on this earth. From then on the Lord will judge him... WE have to DO SOMETHING about the holes in our system that allows innocents to die a horrible death or that allows perpetrators like duncan to be set free. As far as I am concerned his first act of raping a 14 year old at gunpoint should have put him away for the rest of his life. HOLD THESE EVIL people accountable the first time and others will not suffer in the future. What can we do to stop this other than vote out incompetence like the Minnesota judges and other parts of the system that allows sick perverts like this back out on the streets? Let’s not just stop with talk… what can we do? Suggestions?

I have been following this dilligently because my son and I were stalked at Hastings in Helena Montana by a man last Spring that looked like Joseph Edward Duncan. He glared at us in the parking lot. Before he went in he had sunglasses hanging around his neck. When he was in the store he kept peeking around corners at my son with the sun glasses on his face. Right before we left he was waiting over by the kid's DVDs with his sun glasses on his nose as he looked at my son over his sun glasses. (Thank God my son didn't pick out a kids' DVD). What haunts me is he disappeared while I paid for our rental. My son was approached weeks later by a man while walking our dog. Only a few days later the horrible crime happened in Idaho. I beleive he traveld through Helena Montana on I-90. I want him to get the death sentance so I can sleep well once again.
