CRITICAL UPDATE: A review of the video suggets the item in question is not an article of clothing, but something the individual pictured was carrying in his hand when approaching the scene. Video available here.
Reader Robert J emailed to tell me that alert Scared Monkeys readers claim to have spotted the top of Natalee Holloway in a video from Fox News.
This post is also available at Blogger News Network.

WOW
That certainly looks like a possibility. I saw that video several times and couldn't quite figure out what he had in his hand. I'm going to go back to my DVR and replay it. I hope the camera man had a HI-DEF cam... but I doubt it.
Thanks for the late updates.

Does anyone have Beth's e-Mail or Dave's e-mail. I have some personal advice to give them.

Sure, I'll send it right over.

Dan, thanks for the update, not sure what to make of that thing in his hand. Whoof, I don't know how Beth Holloway does it.
Posted by: hardyandtiny | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 07:06 AM
i DO think it could be her top.... damn when are they gonna solve this case allready
Posted by: ohmygod | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 07:08 AM
Dan,
I saw it the first time I saw that clip aired and knew immediately it was Natalee's top she had on when last seen! I would have told you had I thought you didn't see it for yourself. I guess next time it's worth bringing to your attention --even if I am in question of wheter you saw it for yourself.
I have watched the clip over and over and still have it saved and have paused the camera and really taken a look at it and it is the top. I can say that with almost 100% certainty.

Dan,
If you go back to your emails and view my posts, you'll see that it was I who told you about this video and to concentrate on what was in this man's hand. I even asked if there were any people with Tivo to please go back and confirm what I saw. I'm glad Robert J was able to confirm it for me. Thanks, Robert.

I am on the aol board but find this board to be the most informative. You can send an email to Dave through his church which I did and I received an answer from him. He said he did get mail but not as much as he would like. Maybe he feels most people only write to Beth. The address is DianeJ@psdbc.org.

Marsie,
Thank you for Dave's email address. I just emailed him.

I can't open the video link but saw that green cloth live when they were doing the segment. The cloth had no pattern like her top did but it looked more like a rag. Wondering if they found blood on it.
Anyone else catch that these folks aren't wearing rubber gloves nor carrying plastic bags in the event they secure evidence so as not to further contaminate it?
Case in point the big difference between the states and this type of Aruban investigation.

Which video shows this? I see several Fox recaps but none seem appropos.
Posted by: DennisAOK | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 10:57 AM
A searcher was coming up the beach and he had clenched in his hand what looked like a green rag. It was either on FOX or MSNBC. Like I said, I can't open the links provided above. Educated guess was that it was on FOX.
Posted by: FloridaPatty | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 11:04 AM
Thanks, FloridaPatty. I see it now. It is on the Fox interview clip with Jug Twitty.
Posted by: DennisAOK | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 11:09 AM
There is no way to tell from the video what it is...Its a green cloth...doesnt mean for sure that its her top. And no ones saying anything about it on the news.

I saw that last weekend and again last night, it was played over and over again on Geraldo's show. It sure looks like a piece of that shirt Natalee was last seen in. However, I'M VERY CONCERNED WITH THE WAY THIS SEARCHER HANDLED THAT POTENTIAL EVIDENCE. After he picks it up, he keeps it in his hand, it's being snagged over rocks as he climbs and continues looking in crevaces and corners in the rocks. I'm literally shouting at him, put that in a baggie, protect it! What was he thinking!!!????
Posted by: observer | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 11:18 AM
observer, yah I was thinking the same thing..ha!
Posted by: newsjunkie | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 11:23 AM
I switched computers and looked at this clip. THAT is a different piece they have found and this fabric definately is patterned. My experienced guess at wearing cotton like her blouse is it shrinks in size when wet so regardless of it was a longer shirt she had on it would definately shrink up. The top she had on the night she disappeared also tied at the neck. The fabric either shredded or the ties are dangling in the film footage.
Strong possibility this is her top.

Watch the timer at the bottom of the news clip.
Starting at 4:27 counting down you can see it.
Posted by: FloridaPatty | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 12:08 PM
I saw the news clip on Fox only one time, and it definitely appeared to be something that resembled the top Natalee was wearing that night. It looked like a torn piece of material from her top. This was my first impression when I saw that clip and I only watched the clip once.

For those of you (like me), that cannot view the video via the link, do the following:
1. Go to www.foxnews.com
2. On the right side of the screen click on "Click Here for More Video"
3. When the screen is displayed, scroll down the list of programs on the left and select "On the Record"
4. Select the video, "George 'Jug' Twitty"

Do you see where it says "Free Video" on the right? The 'Click here for More Video' is a the bottom of the "Free Video" box.

I found the "George 'Jug' Twitty" video, but it doesn't want to play.

I'm having the same problem. I have yet to get a video from Fox to play. The player comes up and nothing plays.

It could be your Internet Explorer Settings... can you play any video clips on your PC? It could be a security setting for cookies or an ActiveX setting in IE. I think you have to allow activeX applications to run and you probably have to allow www.foxnews.com to use cookies on you PC.

Yes, I can play videos, just not the ones at Fox. LOL I do remember the video in question. Fox kept playing it the day of the duct tape find. It looked like a solid color to me and people were speculating it was a piece of her skirt. It didn't look like denim, but was a similar color to part of her top. To me her top didn't seem to have that much solid color as what the guy was carrying, it was stripes - darker and lighter shades in the bottom part of the blouse.

I captured a still picture from the video, but I don't know how to post it on this site
Posted by: txview | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 01:14 PM
Does anyone know about when the video about Joran crying and saying "We buried Natalee" ran?
Posted by: kescah | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 01:19 PM
I have seen that video many times. My first thought was that it resembled her top. But surely, and I stress, SURELY, it would have been explained. But there was also a flip flop in that video, and it was also never explained.
There are only two possibilities:
1. FOX are idiots
2. It has nothing to do with Natalee.
I tend to go with the second possibility, as it was shown many many times, and I am sure was spotted by others way before this latest.

Does anyone have a link to the picture taken of Natalee on the beach wearing that top?
Posted by: Seattlegirl | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 02:18 PM
Dan, I read your critical update saying a review of the video suggests the item in question is not an article of clothing, but something the individual pictured was carrying in his hand when approaching the scene.
I think you had it right the first time, Dan. Why? Because the time frame of 6:09 shows the man climbing down to the rocks. At 4:46 we see the man walking on the rocks with nothing in his gloved hands. Both of his hands are open at times allowing us to observe this. Of course, we know that the tape has been edited by Fox News before airing. We are not shown the man finding the fabric on those rocks, but I do believe he found it there while searching the area because at 4:41 we see the man searching the rocks with the wet, tattered fabric in his right hand. He is definitely looking for something, anything that might be evidence. This is just my MHO, of course.
Perhaps the sea is trying to tell us what happened to Natalee. Perhaps more than fabric and duct tape will wash up on those rocks...

I have it on my DVR anyway..
7-20-05 Greta OTR at beginning.
It does look "rag like" and he picked it up while looking -- so it was something that caught his attention anyway.
Posted by: AkekoaHoAlethia | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 03:47 PM
It may not be her top. but I too caught the FOX report with the fella on the rocks holding a ragged piece of cloth, and the first thing I said was that it looked like Natalee's top.
IOW, if so many of us thought the same thing in a quick glance, it very well could be her top material. And if the fella picked it up, and saw it close, he must have thought the same thing!
Posted by: zebbe | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 05:57 PM
I was able to freeze-frame the material from the video. It has light green and dark green stripes. However, I do not have the beach picture to compare it to. If you watch the video, freeze the frame where you see a closeup of the shorts and the cloth is between the guy's legs. It's definitely a green-striped material. Can someone post the beach picture for comparison please?
Posted by: Shari | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 06:23 PM
Dan,
Is there a way of getting a side-by-side picture of the video and beach picture, specifically when the time on the video hits 4:23? Maybe someone can blow it up so we can see more clearly.
Posted by: Shari | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 07:07 PM
i just have one question? does anyone have any idea when joran van der sloot turns 18 years old?
all this time and we are still waiting! could it be that they have enough and want to charge him as an adult???
just wondering
mrs. hardin,
god bless all who are in prayer for this tragedy!!!

I have no idea how to post a photo on this website.
*Shari* at the top of this page, on the right there is another thread running called
Natalee Holloway: Music and Images. There are several shots of her in there and one is of her on the beach, cropped and you can see her top in that one.

Greta will be on The View, tomorrow, Monday, July 25th, discussing criminal cases. Of Natalee Holloway and The View she says:
The concentration will be on Natalee Holloway but will include other legal stories, too.
Posted by: FloridaPatty | Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 08:30 PM
I couldn't get the video to play either, but then went to web assistent (top right hand corner of my browser toolbar) and unchecked block pop ups and cookies from this site and then it would play...I went through fox's main page to the free video, then looked through till I found the right clip. My security settings were blocking it. hope this helps some of you.
That sure looks like Natalees top to me.. same shade of green.. which is kind of an unusual shade of green.
