Individuals following the Natalee Holloway case should not read anything sinister into this. It's just a bit of trivia involving the strange coincidence of how some alums of a now-closed Lebanon, Tenn. Military Academy have come together in one of the nation's more riveting disappearance stories - that of recent and still missing Alabama graduate, Natalee Holloway.
Graduates of the school, several years apart, include, among others:
Serge Mansur
Aruba
Description: Graduated Univ. of Miami Married since 1992 - no kids yet General Manager of Cigarette Factory.
Luis M. Mansur
Oranjestad, ARUBA
Description: Living in Aruba. Maried for 14 years. 4 kids, oldest is a boy 12 and triplets 3years old, one boy two girls. I am currently working as the astnt. director at the islands largest newspaper (DIARIO),also own a construction company.
and
JUG TWITTY
MTN. BROOK AL
Description: GENERAL MGR. OF PHOENIX METALS BIRMINGHAM
Other noteworthy attendees include Duane and Greg Allman, pictured together below (click to enlarge). The pair are well-know to many southern rock enthusiasts. The individual picture is of the elder Allman, Duane.
In the summer of 1971, the Allman Brothers began work on their fourth album, Eat A Peach, but tired from constant touring, they took a break mid-way though the sessions. On 29 October, in an effort to avoid a collision with a truck, (Duane) Allman crashed his motor-cycle and died following three hours of intensive surgery. This tragic accident robbed music of one of its exceptional talents whose all-too-brief legacy reveals an individual of rare skill and humility.

I have two cousins that went to Castle Heights and both of them hated it.
Judging from the ages of the Allmans and Jug my cousins must have been in classes between them, and I have never heard either of them mention those names.

it does seem at least a bit starnge that jug twitty went to teh same school as the mansurs does this include jossy?

Dan,
Enjoyed the post on the military academy, and the Allmans. First saw them play around 40 years ago-- as Allman Joys, then Hourglass, then as the Brothers. Went to many concerts in Houston, New Orleans (they always played the Warehouse on New Years Eve)! Great memories!
Thanks!

The Allman Brothers may have attended Castle Heights briefly as young boys in the 1950s but they came nowhere close to graduating from there. Their mother moved them from Tennessee to Florida in 1958.

No wonder Gregg was so f-ed up. That's what happens when you put a talented, creative, independent mind in an oppressive military setting. I admit that I'm jaded because of my own horrendous military academy experience -- kids shouldn't have to deal with such sadism.
Thank the Lord Gregg and Duane were still able to create such fantastic music. People don't realize how influential they were.

I just clicked on the properties of Jug's picture and learned that he graduated in the class of 1974. That is close to the age of one of my cousins. Maybe they did know each other. I never heard my cuz mention his name but until now there was no reason for him to. The next time I chat with my cuz I'll ask him if he knew Jug.

Thanks for pointing that out, Paul - language has been corrected.

Wow, small world!!! I'm in the next town over and remember Castle Heights well -- my small school played theirs in basketball back in the day. Looks like i'm only a few years younger than Jug; weird to think I could even have seen him around at a game or something...
What's really strange is the Mansurs going there. Wonder how in the world they came across that small school? It always had a reputation as being unbelievably tough. I think I can see some of that in Jug's take-no-prisoners attitude.
More trivia: the grounds of the old academy are now an office park. Cracker Barrel has their headquarters there, and there's a nice restaurant there. Since it had been really rundown for several years it's nice to see it back in some type of use.

Wow, I knew there was more to my obsession to this story. Now, it has everything. The best example of a mother, dad and step-dad I have ever seen, good people all around her, now the best southern rock/blues musicians of the 70's. Duanne Allman was a contender vs Clapton, Hendrix, and their later progeny, Stevie Ray Vaughn. I am so old - that pic of teh Allman bros was in my birth year. Yikes.

kyle,
yeah, Jug would turn PVDS into a limp mass of paste with one punch. If he were'nt such a good guy that is (unlike PVDS).

Kyle ... your on the money ... jug would kick his ass sure as there's sin ... I put twenty on the certainty of it too.

A very interesting entry. Who would have ever thought that Jug Twitty, the Mansurs, and the Allman Brothers were connected?
Paul, that was a very interesting link about the ABB. Call me naïve but I never knew the Allman Brothers did drugs...or maybe I just liked their music too much to even let the question enter my mind, as it should have been kind of obvious...

Jug's mom BTW was a real mover and shaker back in the bad old days in Nashville.

Dan:
George "Jug" Twitty said on TV, I cannot remember which interview, that the Mansurs' sons had attended the same military school in Tennessee that he had and that Mansurs owned "about half" the island of Aruba. He seemed to think that this gave Mr. Mansurs cerditibility.

why does it matter where natalee's step family went to high school? you people tickle me to no end. Has this blog become the dan rather of credibility?
paulus van der sloot, my guess is, will soon have his testicles removed, like his son joran, and his now infamous charges, the 3rd world kalpoe brothers.
God, why didnt old man van der slut simply tell the truth from the get go?
Well, that would be too honest, as well as christian. I hope the entire van der slut family rots in hell. Kalpoes? well, hook em thru the ankles, drag em about 10 mph behind a skiff on the northwest shore of aruba for about 10min.
I guess then the old lady van der slut could swim behind to collect the remains. I wonder if she could swim with duct tape all over her body?
sorry to be so graphic, but for 2 months we have lived with this family's lies and political influence covering up their stupid punk son and the kalpoe thugs rape and murder of ms holloway.
The van der sluts lives are over, have been for 2 months.Joran? i bet he will be shark bait or gator bait very soon. Kalpoes? probably go swimming near the old meat plant at low tide. Tiger sharks love to suck the flesh from liars around that time. Well, I guess the final judgment is down to the van der slut parents and the kalpoe parents. My guess is they wind up behind a ford f 250 dooley, drug thru a texas cactus field. But that fate is too kind for them. Consider what their spawn did to natalee.
Van derSluts, Kalpoes- your lives are over, you are marked for eternity as parents of worthless trash. God forgive you because satan awaits you with eternal garland, ribbons and lace.
Rot in Hell Kalpoe family, van der slut family.

I'll take some of that action.

>> I have to admit this made me laugh. I think ramblings of minds can lead people to research anything, including Jug Twitty's formative years. The internet makes all of that possible.

Speaking of Jug kicking Paulus' ass, what do you guys know about Jug's nephew?
I say lock Thomas Twitty and Joran in the same cell and then come back 10 minutes later.
Do the link.

The Allmans didn't just go there as kids in the 50's. Even after they moved to Daytona, both boys went back and forth to there a couple of times; until Duane finally quit school entirely and Gregg graduated from Seabreeze High in Daytona.

I attended Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee with Gregg and Duane Allman in 1962. I gradusted in 1967. Duane was kicked out in 1963 or 1964 and Gregg left in 1965 or so... We all played in a band together that included Gregg and Duane Allmen, Robert Thames, Mike Jonstone, myself Rick Clifton.
The pictures you have on this site are not of the Allman brothers. Check the dates..they were taken in the 50's....We attended the military school in the 60's. This clears it up...all other posts about this issue are BS

I went to school with the Allmans at Seabreeze in Daytona. To my recollection they graudated in 63 and 64. They were know to us as the Allman Joys!!!

Hey Rick, I was also at CHMA during 1962-63 during my sophmore year. I remember Duane, as he treid to teach me the Steel Slide Guitar with his glass pill bottle instead of the steel, in between night study hall and lights out. Wish I would have stayed with it, but I changed to keyboards. I played scotch drum in the marching band and kettle drums in the symphony. I think that the Allmans were also at the Junior school at CHMA. Do you remember Mike Ladd, the 12 string guitar player? He has been building custom axes and has his own shop in the Memphis area ( http://www.memphismusicianbiz.com/about.php?userid= ). I got my information from John Trousdale, the drum major, back in September of last year when we last talked. Also, Mike Worley is a neighbor of my parents up here.
