With Joran Van der Sloot:
In Aruba, police took a jailed Dutch teenager to retrace his steps at the beach where he says he last saw 18-year-old Natalee Holloway the morning she disappeared from the island.

Greyson - You really need to stay on the subject, Natalee. We've impeached Presidents whom thought they were above the law; and police officers whom thought they were smarter than the law. These suspects lied several times; sent Equusearch on wild goose chases, refused the help of many US law enforcement individuals far better trained and equipped to help out; plus there's a trail of very unusal circumstances in this case; Joran smirked at Beth's mom, but most damning to Aruba was asking Beth to appologize to a suspect and the community. If Aruba had a massive earthquake would they also deny resources? Probably, not. Aruba LE knows what it needs to do, but it also is in denial - they just keep looking for a way out.

I presume many of the pro Aruba bloggers here have investments in Aruba; new State Dept travel requirements (30% drop); this tradegy (50%); I understand Aruba has hired PR firms that are trying to sway opinions. Aruba LE needs to come clean and deliver Natalee to her mom w/the truth.

hopefulcanadian - the US and Canada equally share resources in crimes; as well as several other nations. Though some do not too. I assume your gainfully employed, and if you do not know how to do a task, do hire someone qualified and if it's free help do you turn it down? Aruba LE and gov't misjudged this incident; they said the Hell w/US aid; now you want us americans to forgive; it's too late - the damage is done.
Getting to the truth now may salvage 15%; but if it was done right the first time; we would not be here today. But hey; 15% is better than digging a deeper hole?

Uh, just saw on Fox they found blonde hairs stuck to some duct tape on a remote section of the island.
Sent to Netherlands for forensic testing.
Posted by: Froggie | Sunday, July 17, 2005 at 06:31 PM
hmmm... wonder if this duct tape is common thread in the findings on the island. Perhaps adding consistency that this is a typical practice on the island...perhaps a rape gang that runs around drugging and raping tourists.
Initally found was the duct tape wrapped around a tree also near was women's polka dot underwear and condoms.
Now there is more duct tape found with blonde hairs. if it turns out to be Natalee's...there you have it. she was either abducted or murdered.

Good to see that Joran is apparently cooperating with the investigation . Now if they could just put some evidence together to charge Deepak. But that boy is not likely to tell what he likely did with the dead body between the hours of 3am and 5am that morning. My take would be that Joran and Deepak were not together in that time frame based on the cell phone tracking. And my take is that Deepack's cell phone does not show he was in the area of his home during those hours.

I agree with those who say the boys have one motivation to lie, and one only: CYA. If they were not guilty of something more, they would have one story repeated over and over again. Not a bunch of different lies. And since everyone here seems able to comment on what bothers them about this case, here's mine:
The idea that NH willingly had sex with Joran. Please. Have you looked at that guy? Maybe I'm pushing 40, but still recall the attractive guys from younger years. Mr. Frankenstein head wouldn't have been one of them.
The implied statements that this is just a misunderstanding, that NH is probably not dead. Well, maybe she's not dead, but this is more than a misunderstanding and innocent boys too scared to tell the truth. If she's alive it's 99 percent safe to say she's not willingly missing anymore. And again, if Joran had nothing to do with it, he wouldn't be lying out his arse -- still.

I think Joran is a very attractive young man. He is very athletic, well built, and has a nice face. I suppose one would need to be attracted to the Arnold S type look and not everyone likes the same type look.
Lying and why - This certainly has generated lots of speculation. Perhaps he will tell why one day. My theory is that is was clear from first night that someone was going to blame them that she was missing, and they were trying to have an alibi that they were all together. If you go back to the Fox news interview that Greta did with Mr John (one of the security guards that was arrested), he said Deepak told him that they lied to say they were all together (an alibi) and assumed that she would soon show up. It seemed like they were trying to get everyone to leave them alone until Natalee showed up. This was extremely revealing, because it suggests that they believed she took off somewhere after they last saw her, that they did not know where she was (at least didn't know on day following her being missing), and that they believe that she was OK and free to return.
My person theory, after following this all over, is the Natalee and Joran were actually attracted to each other, that he did not have any intent to harm her (most likely to put the moves on her, not unlike most 17 yr old guys would do with a good looking young woman in same circumstances), that they went to some sort of after hours party, that she dumped him or he had to leave and she wanted to stay, and that he thought she would be OK. I think her disappearance has something to do with the drug cartel, that he is afraid to say the people that she may have ended up with, that he fears for his life and his family's. I think he was not initially held because the police hoped he would be able to find out something - and he may have. I think he is being held for his own protection in hopes that he will reveal something and that Natalee will be found.
He also may be lying because he doesn't want to be blamed for taking her to an after hours party and letting her stay. If he says he left her on the beach, then he would not be accountable for what she did after he left.
I do think something bad happened to Natalee. However, I don't think the Joran did them > unless you want to count being a 17 old guy on the make, again a trait he shares with the majority of 17 yr old guys.
Well, we all have our theories, and mine may be just as wrong as many others posed here. Also, I live in Florida and have never been to Aruba.

FOX Cable News. On our cable, it is Channel 44, but that will differ if your are not on same network. Greta comes on at 10:00 pm here, and she is interviewed by some of other on the other FOX shows. Transcripts, including the one I reference above, are posted in archive on the FOX website.

The Aruba investigators sure missed an opportunity to improve their image. Sending the duct tape/hair to FBI would have been all upside with no downside. They chose not to. Potential positives missed:
1. Participating with US/FBI. Something that they are perceived as not doing.
2. Would be no question that the analysis was done right.
3. DNA results are just totally independent of where done. Would not affect any Dutch legal process.
4. They could have ANTICIPATED and addresed any chain of custody issues.
Sending to Holland just perpetuates the closed methods we have seen from the start.
Anyway is it just possible that the retiring Aruba chief was called by PVDS on the nite and sent a white SUV out to take care of the body?
Remember his initial comment that JVDS could not have done anything wrong? If the cops took care of things, then that's why JVDS doen't know what happened and invented so many stories. Same with Kalpoes. Also explains a lot of the "keep secret the activities of the Dutch process" and the lack of requests for assistance.
The earlier frameup sure indicates that:
1. No body, no problem.
2. Get two likely fall guys. Satisfies the overseers in Holland.
3. Chief retires. Payoff from PVDS.
4. Case closes as cold.
This case has similarities to chief Charles Moose in Fairfax county with the snipers and the chief in Atlanta in the courthouse shooting. Come quickly to a conclusion and then create the facts. Then retire and write a book. If it happens here, it sure is possible elsewhere. Incompetence has been used as a cover many times.
