UPDATE 2 on F-16's from Hasibokos: According to the official communiqué by the ministry of defense the F-16’s will not be stationed on Aruba but on the neighbouring island of Curaçao (about 30 miles away). F-16’s will be refueled in the air by a KDC-10 (see photos of the Dutch KDC-10 performing air refueling here) and are expected to land on Monday afternoon. Hasibokos.com has also received additional information with regard to the equipment onboard the F-16’s.
The main (search) equipment is the Mars-pod (Medium Altitude Reconnaissance System) with either a daylight camera or a targeting pod to record infrared images. The targeting pod which includes a laser target indicator and an infrared camera are mounted under the aircraft. The Mars-pod consists of Recon Optical KS-87B daylight cameras with 12 inch lenses (306mm) that are able to record detailed images. Each camera contains a film cassette with which approximately 600 recordings can be made. The recordings will eventually be sent to specialized photo interpreters of the Mobile Processing Unit based at Volkel to be analyzed. --- Considering the fact that most people are asking what the purpose of sending the F-16’s maybe you can post the following link for them to read about the Mars.
Hasibokos.com has just learned that on Sunday three F-16's of the Royal air Force of the Netherlands will be sent to Aruba to search for Natalee Holloway. This was reported the ministry of defence today. The F-16’s will fly to Aruba, a trip of about seven thousand kilometres and will be fuelled by a fuel-carrier-airplane with soldiers onboard.
The ministry of defence also informed that the F-16’s are equipped with special devices, such as infrared camera’s that can be used to comb the island and take detailed photographs. Once in Aruba there will the authorities will deliberate to decide wehen and how the F-16’s will be set-in.

There is one big problem.. let's say if Natalee was dead, for a month now.. the body of the missing girl is not warm anymore, so why bring F-16 with Infrared camera's to look for a warm body? :-S

This question was posted last night after the first report of Holland's F-16 being sent to Aruba.
Isn't infrared used to pick up heat? If Natalee has been dead since her disappearance, how would that help?
Dan?.. anyone?

Maybe she is tanning on a private beach of Aruba, drinking her piña colada.. you could never know..

It's a case of "too little, too late".
It's a total waste of money, Tsunder.. I agree!

yah I think this F-16 thing is a little strange...

holiday week end in the U.S. it will pick back up tuesday

Does anyone have an educated answer to HOW the F-16s will help at this point in the case, a month and three days after she disappeared?
Please enlighten us if you know, because this seems ridiculous!
Are they going to be flying over Curacao, Venezuela in hopes of finding her alive or what?
Hopefully she is somewhere sipping a piña colada, Tsunder...doubt it, though.

F-16's are just making a coke run for the boy's in holland. no big deal
Posted by: bobup | Saturday, July 02, 2005 at 02:08 PM
Wow! The Dutch have planes that can see inside caves, old freezers and fridges, abandoned cars and houses? Awesome! Man, I, as an American, certainly do feel that the Aruban gov is doing all they can.....NOT!
Posted by: blu | Saturday, July 02, 2005 at 02:08 PM
I know.. just joking around, they should fly over Curacao and Venezuela, true..
Posted by: Tsunder | Saturday, July 02, 2005 at 02:09 PM
Why is the whole F-16 thing now strange? All of you Americans were screaming for some kind of help from the dutch goverment... now is the dutch goverment helping with sending these F-16's and again it not good enough :-S
The information says that they are equiped with special devices LIKE a infra red camera... so this doesn't mean their will be only a infra red camera on board... reading is also a grade...

I read in the former thread of the F16 (which is disappeared) that the body after approximately a month is spreading some heat. It's a bit unpleasent to express what is going on exactly, but what is going on is just able to detect by the radarsystems on the F16.
At least that is what I remember.

Dan, please, please stop using apostrophes to form the plural of nouns: "cameras", not "camera's", for example. I cringe every time I see this. Thanks! Otherwise, keep up the good work.

No joke. There are a couple of Dutch govt officals you are in hot water because they did not purchase enough herion to distribute for free to the junkies in Holland.

Dan because there is not a lot to talk anymore you should make a blog for the posters that think NH is a live, and for the one's that think NH is dead..
Thanks keep up the work..
Pardon my english ;-)

The RF-16/F-16 thing is odd. I believe the RF-16 is equipped with infrared ATARS, which is used for locating land vehicles, boats, submarines near the surface, buildings, etc. I'm not sure whether it has the resolution to detect a human body, especially at the speed that the aircraft flies. I would think that a helicopter would be much more appropriate to use with its ability to hover and fly slow. Just my uneducated guess.

1. A decomposing body generates more heat than the surrounding area.
2. Ground where a body is buried has a different texture, and thus reacts differently to heat changes.
This technique has been successfully used in the Netherlands. They found a body witch was buried a few years earlier.
It also does not matter how fast the planes fly over the island as the pilot won't be looking out of the cockpit looking for Natalee with IR-goggles himself, everything is photographed in milliseconds.

SO AGAIN THERE HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF PEOPLE CONDEMNING THE WHOLE F-16 SENDING WITHOUT KNOWING THE FACTS...don't you guys have enough self respect to check the facts before judging...it makes you a much more intelligent respectable person if you do so!!

===================================
I believe it has to do with the gases a body releases that produces the "heat".

Please read Clint Van Zandt's synopsis of where this case stands now for an intelligent analysis. Mr Van Zandt was a former FBI profiler.
Without a body or a confession, the investigators in Aruba are just posturing while they hope for a break. The FBI has apparently pulled out, the Equusearch folks are on their way out. I think it is unlikely that three teenagers managed to dispose of a body in the wee hours of the morning in a way that none of these experienced law enforcement organizations would be unable to find it or evidence of a violent crime. At this point I am inclined to think that the three are innocent as they are asserting. Without more compelling evidence they should be released. Thank God for our tradition of Habeas Corpus, I wouldn't want to be in their shoes if I was innocent.

Thank God for the tradition of Habeas Corpus in this country. I would hate to be in Joran's shoes if I was innocent and the press and the police were looking for a scapegoat.

Van Zandt summed up exactly what I've been thinking. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes if guilty OR innocent. If they end up taking the fall for this, I hope it's because it's deserved and not because of pressure from sources outside of the Island.
Posted by: Cmoney | Saturday, July 02, 2005 at 04:17 PM
travieso,
Where is the Van Zandt piece?
I agree that one or even three young people so successfully disposing of the body in so short a time is puzzling, unless there was premeditation.
I am less inclined than you to believe the boys are innocent since Joran hs reportedly continued to change his story when confronted with new evidence.

Why does everybody think that three kids in the middle of the night on an island they live on can't dispose of a body in such a way that it's not found? A 45yr old crackhead did it 100yds away from where half of Florida LE was looking for his victim's body, and he buried it right next to the freaking house he was staying in.
As for the F-16s, they're probably waiting for Geraldo to show up again...

I guess that is a matter of being a gentlemen/lady or not.
By the way I just read that the mother of the 2 brothers said to a local newspaper that she did not stop the searching team of Texas to search her yard. What happened was that there came a reporter to her asking her for an interview and she said that she will not give no interview any more because they twisted her words in the interview she gave before. But that the searchin team is welcome to search her yard. And after that the search team left her house without searching...she was surprised to see them leave without searching. And after it all happened she was wondering if the reporter told the searching team that they were not welcome at her house....

This whole thing was FUBARed from the beginning! How long did the suspects have to finish wiping any evidence of a crime??? Too long! I don't buy the lame excuse that the authorities let them go the first time to "watch what they do". Will these planes see the crapped out carcass of someone dumped in the ocean? How about disolved remains flushed down the toilet? This is a sick joke of an investigation on all fronts!
Not only does this reek of stupidity, it reeks of corrupt consipiracies as well.
Sick sick sick SICK!

"...mass graves"
Idiots! I work in the landscape industry and decomposing leaves, mulch, grass... anything organic, causes tempature increases! Do you really think that ONE dead body as old as this would be distinguishable from a rotting fruit or a fresh turd? What if the body is in pieces and buried in different locations?! This is a desperate attempt by a backward country to give the appearance that "Hey, we tried everything we could, don't take your tourist money elswhere."
Your comment is the answer... MASS GRAVES.
This is sickening!
Posted by: argh | Saturday, July 02, 2005 at 06:52 PM
argh: If the body is in pieces there seems little (no) hope.
However, the story in the mass graves is true. Not only that, this technique has SUCCESSFULLY been used on a SINGLE BODY in the Netherlands. This body was found SEVERAL YEARS later.
Indeed decomposing leaves have a different temperature too. But they don't tent to be aligned in a 1 by 2 rectangle however. This is not about the body per se, but about the ground that has been moved to dig a hole for the body. That too causes a temperature change.

Just wondering ... is this going to be an air show to celebrate 4th of July ? Infra-red stuff they do pretty fine for criminals hiding themselves behind the bushes, because of the heat of their body ... but the criminals do not seem to need bushes to hide themselves out there, and Natalee is most probably no longer alive. So what's the point here ? Does it mean that if the F16 don't find nothing, they will release JVDS ? That's a good deal for him !
