Update: I realize ScaredMonkeys has this article up as a NH update. But I'd appreciate another translation of this article in Dutch if I could get it from a reader. I know some of it is inaccurate, though I'm also certain not all of it. But I'd like another translation if I could get one.

HONEST QUESTIONS HERE....

Why are Euro-Dutch expats trying to convince Arubians that Americans do not like them? We don't think Arubians are to blame. In most American eyes, those to blame are a few Euro-Dutch and a couple of Surinamese dudes.

I noticed a handful of Arubians with posters protesting Natalee's family being trotted about by a white couple with bullhorns in front of the courthouse yesterday. I don't understand why Arubians do the bidding of the Euro-Dutch who have their Dutch colony and their Dutch country clubs and their Dutch society...their apartheid. Do those protestors know that their actions may translate into the loss of their jobs next year? Did the white couple with the bullhorns tell them this?

I understand that virtually all Euro-Dutch kids go 'off island' for college. Where do Arubian kids go for college? Does the average Arubian make enough money to send their kids to college? Or is the most Arubians can hope for is vocational training and a job in a hotel or the airport or the refinery?

I see how much money is invested in hotels and infrastructure in Oranjestad and north of Oranjestad. But what about south of Oranjestad? The beaches are beautiful toward San Nicolas (I've been there), so why is there no development near the less affluent town of San Nicolas? Development enhances property value...maybe the residents of San Nicolas would appreciate the boost.

What percent of the land in Aruba is owned by Euro-Dutch? Is Aruba owned by Arubians? Does the average Arubian make enough money to buy property? Is this hard or difficult? Aruba is lousy with banks...are lending terms for Arubians equal to those of the Euro-Dutch?

The government branches are obviously very separate and independent from each other. I know the prime minister, Nelson Oduber, is elected and up for re-election in September. Is the Police Chief Van der Straaten appointed by Oduber or is he 'selected' by the Governor of Aruba who is selected by the Dutch government of The Netherlands?

Interestingly, America has much stronger trade relationship with Aruba than The Netherlands. Arubans import approx 65% of their goods and services from the US and only 11% from The Netherlands. And Americans buy 30% of Aruban exports while the Dutch only buy 15% of Aruban export. Note the deficit relationship with the States however....are most Arubans, especially those protestors, aware of their trade deficit?

I ask all of the above questions because I get a little sick seeing the Machiavellian manipulation of the local population by Dutch expats on the island. The Natalee Hollaway investigation is not the only thing stinking up the joint.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba -- Arriving at Queen Beatrix Airport of the island of Aruba, visitors are struck by a gentle and refreshing breeze from the northeast.

Aruba is a prosperous and proud part of the Dutch Caribbean, with no abject poverty and few political problems. It is also an autonomous part of the kingdom of the Netherlands where nearly everybody speaks at least three foreign languages.

The island, not much bigger than Manhattan, has 120,000 inhabitants. Half are Arubans, the other half foreigners -- about 30,000, mainly Dutch. The rest are legal and illegal aliens from Colombia, Venezuela and other Caribbean nations.
-'One happy island'-
Tourism is the island's main source of income.

Aruba receives 1.2 million visitors a year, mostly from the United States. It is advertised as "one happy island": no trouble, just paradise, where English is the main language.

The Rev. Rudy Lampe is a Catholic priest whose church in Noord is near the high-rise hotels with familiar names, giving visitors the impression of being near home.

"Of course we are prosperous and affluent," he said. "But what you see is the surface. Look beyond that and you'll find more than enough room to improve a lot of things. We need tourism and our free-trade zone.

"But we also need to get rid of the image of a money-laundering paradise and a distribution point for Colombian drug smugglers. We need to get rid of local politicians, to clean up our act and really become the paradise we want to be."

Three weeks ago, Natalee Holloway, 18, of Alabama went missing from a Holiday Inn on the island. Her passport and packed bags were found in her room, the Associated Press reported.

Four persons have been detained as Aruban police investigate the teenager's disappearance on the last day of a five-day vacation with a group of 124 students celebrating their high school graduation.

Investigators refuse to say whether they think Miss Holloway is dead.
Aruba gained its wealth from a gold rush that lasted almost a century into the 1920s, and then by refining crude oil from Venezuela. An economic crisis erupted when oil income declined, so the island invested in tourism in the latter part of the 20th century.

Low-income labor was needed to build scores of hotels, casinos and other attractions. Word spread in the Caribbean, Venezuela and Colombia: Aruba needed construction and other industrial workers.

Mr. Iglesias knows of several of his countrymen who didn't make it to shore. He also knows of legal ways to reach Aruba, but that is not an option for people of his social class, except for prostitutes.

Only Colombian women work in the dark brothels in San Nicolas, eight miles south of Oranjestad, the capital. They have a legal status for three months renewable for another three. They are union members and receive regular medical checkups.
Mr. Iglesias said cartels employ men and finance their trips to the island. The men are told to become acquainted with Aruban and Dutch women; marrying one of them would provide legal Dutch status.

"Some of them are then free to roam Europe or even the U.S. and represent the cartels there to spread their business, from drug dealing to prostitution and money laundering," he said.

Elio Nicolaas is a former justice minister and police chief who started a security consultancy and political party to reform the island's government.

He said drug cartels used to warn Dutch marines stationed on the island that their surveillance planes would be shot out of the sky if they kept flying over Colombian territory.

Mr. Nicolaas said he is fighting "the washing machine." "It's a Colombian-Aruban product, very well known in the U.S. and Europe," he said.

But the island government was not aware of the problem, Mr. Nicolaas said. "It was as if someone had awakened our princess from her beauty sleep. Even my colleague, the minister of finance, was not aware of what was going on. He denied the influence of the Colombian cartels and the money laundering. I had to wake him up.
Today, Aruba claims to offer the best hospitality in the Caribbean.
The eternal winds blow gently in the late Caribbean afternoon. Tourists are greeted with a warm welcome on this happy island.

I don't know why some believe American Children under 21 do not drink in America so not true. I am not trying to knock anyone I am sure all of the kids from Alabama have drank before. Some of you are trying to make others belive that those kids had NEVER touched alcohol before so not true I am so sure.

I know I grew up in Alabama if you want to party underage you can find it to do till you throw up pass out whatever floats your boat and yes there are bars that let in underage also in America as well. Belive it or not we have illegal drugs to imagine that. Aruba has nothing to offer our kids in the way of getting drunk or drugs they can't get at home.

Natalee should not have gotten in the car with those boys but that did not give them the right to hurt her either and you know it.

I do not blame the people of Aruba at all. This is not your fault. I am sorry you feel like we are putting your island down. Most people I talk to do not blame you for this.

It is a tragic event for America and Aruba. I thank you for all your effort to find Natalee. I know you would love nothing better then to find her alive and if not I know you want justice just as we do.

I think people all over the world want bascially the same things a good safe home good jobs good schools for our children. I hope Natalee will be found soon and be can mend the hurts between us.

UN statistics state that Aruba is the transit point for US- and Europe-bound narcotics with some accompanying money-laundering activity. I have heard many stories from the "Message Boards" about people being approached to buy drugs in Aruba. Carlos & Charlie’s being one of the places. Also, by the Marina (across from the Renaissance Hotel). Someone said whey they were at the Wyndham Hotel last week and they were approached outside to buy drugs.
Why are under age people like the 17-year-old son of a top justice official on the island allowed to go to Casinos and Drink in bars like Carlos and Charlie’s (is that not an illegal age?), and prying on young girls and getting them drunk and giving them GHB so that they can have sex with them and your adult bartenders who keep sliding them the alcohol, when they should be shutting them off at the bar for the almighty American tourist $.

As you know young kids have not learned their limits yet and the adults should be watching out for them and say the heck with the extra money selling them a few more beers (Aruba or anywhere).

I just learned that as the results of Paul van der Sloot training in Holland for a year he did not get the required recommendations to become a Judge and was not sufficiently educated to become a Judge, and that he was notified by the President of the Common Court of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba that he cannot function as a judge and has to look for another function it would be a great time to fire him from the Dutch civil service. Maybe during his honesty testing in the Netherlands he sweated like he did when questioned by Natalee’s mother. Why were his son and he hiding and not searching for Natalee being his son was the last to see her?

Yes, it is true you do not need our tourism since Aruba is notihng much but a crime pit and the money laundering machine for the drug lords. One tourist equals full booking of a hotel, right, if the money is from drugs and not the tourists. Of course you do not need us to come there!

But you see, we and our governement know that the income is mostly from the selling of drugs which you do in concert with your homeland, the equally corrupt Dutch. But the whole world is watching and do not think this is not going to bring down your house of cards when the finances of your corrupt businesses are investigated and forced to comply with the treaties they have signed!!
Maybe when the drug money is taken away, you just might need tourists then but don't expect Americans to forget and return. Can someone refer me to the discussion that had the "time-line". I cannot remember where I read it.
