Dave Holloway: A Telling Meeting

This has likely been reported, I don't have time to read much news these days. But I can't say that I wasn't left shaking my head and wondering at the bolded line below from a Meridian Star story from yesterday. It's a registered site ... but free.

Dave Holloway had questions and he hoped Paul van der Sloot might have some answers. The two men engaged in conversation for nearly an hour on Saturday, palms locked in a handshake the entire time, one desperately hoping to find information on his missing daughter, the other only trying to protect his son.

"I told him, I am a forgiving person. If he is innocent, he needs to profess his innocence to me. If an accident happened on this, I can live with that," Holloway said. "And about that time, his eyes watered and his voice quivered and he said, 'I've got to do everything I can to protect my son.'"

I have two grown sons and maybe I was just brought up differently. If it was my son and he was the one involved there is no way I would protect my son and leave a mother in grief like the way Beth has been done. I would want my son to tell the truth and do the right thing, no matter what. I could not be so selfish as to protect my son and cause hurt and harm to the health and well being of Beth Hollaway.
It would not mean that I did not love my son any less. If you make a mistake are what ever it was or ended up being (if Joran was involved) you have to tell the truth.
I just can not see it any other way.
I could not tell my son to not tell the truth about such a horrible thing as this.
Does Joran's father and mother have no heart or compassion for others ? How cruel can one be ?

I hope that one day PVDS realizes that sometimes protecting your child means protecting them from themselves. i.e.....in rare cases...protecting them from making a mistake of not telling the truth or facing up to the consequences of your actions.

Doing this, even when it is difficult and hurts you and them in the short term...is the real meaning of being a parent... If we help our kids to cover an alleged crime OR knowledge of an alleged crime, then in the long term we are hurting them, their brothers, sisters and others..

THis is in line with what I have maintained all along. There was something bad that happened to her, but they don't know what (LE). The boys and PVDS know; but they cannot tell or the consequences could be dire--and I don't mean from the island.

Did anyone read the entire article on the Aruba money laundering, drug stuff--about the Cuntrera-Caruana family from Sicily? Huh?

I don't speak Italian but I bet there are some on Aruba who do. Also, isn't it interesting that Caruana owned the Holiday Inn and Casino as late at the late 70's.

....and none of these people realize how deep it really has gotten. I would say the lack of a body is the last thing to worry about here...

This explains DEA's presence at the Holiday Inn.

The TNI article said that Paolo Cuntrera owned the place in 1978---for all we know, the descendants own it now!

You need to censor concerned also in my opinion.. You actually think Joran is innocent? He has already confessed.. The family was told Natalee was dead.. But since they don't know what happen to her, they are doing everything in their power to find evidence so that Joran can be officially charged with her murder.. And Daddy VDS is doing everything in his power to prevent that from happening no matter what the price. But he will have to answer to that one day.. He is the one that has to live with it.

You are missing it---there is no credible confirmation of a "confession," that I am aware of.

The family has not told anything definitely--they don't believe NH could be alive because they are being given the run around by LE and the Dutch.

The question is why? Why won't they run a good investigation? Why not really interrogate? why not disclose info the the family? publicly?

Because: they can't, or their heads could be delivered to the island on a stick, just like the one that appeared some weeks ago. The "family" will see to it that they are shark food.

Besides being almost totally consumed with selfishness, for the first time I saw a glimpse of a heart in PVDS when he could not lie to Dave's face. It's a start. They are so guilty. It will come out. I will give to BHT's fund weekly until it does. I think none of us should ever give up. They're crucifying her for the whole world to see, and she is holding up with such grace. Before it's all over, I'd PVDS will probably burst out in flames, ie spontaneous combustion, just before the whole sick mass of lies finally unravels. This will never stand. They need to come clean. As far as what PVDS said to DH (exact words) seems would be a matter of recollection and who is telling the story. The version I heard on TV was that PVDS responded to the I am a forgiving man statement by DH with: "You must understand that this has gone beyond forgiveness. You must understand that this is my son, I will do anything for my son."

My take on the fist part is that PVDS is stateing the reality that they are in the middle of a criminal investigation and that the forgiveness of DH means little or nothing to the police. The police are charged with solving a crime and providing evidence to the DA the charge somebody if the judgement is that a crime has taken place.

My take on the second part is that is what any father would say that loved his son as much or more than he loved himself. Now would PVDS actually do ANYTHING for his son? Don't know, maybe not.
