The Sounds Of Silence

Heard tonight that some Aruban media outlets are beginning to move on, not completely, but certainly from the kind of coverage the disapearance of Natalee Holloway had been getting.

Also informed that a girlfriend of Joran v d Sloot was questioned for approximately four hours today - haven't confirmed, or if the Sounds of Silence applies in that instance, too.

I suppose it's only natural that quiet without some sense of significant forward momentum isn't welcome to those most interested in this case. I honestly can't say with any confidence that there isn't reason to conclude this case isn't stalled.

One source on the island told me tonight that he heard EquuSearch's Miller told CNN he was "happy." But if you Google CNN for Natalee Holloway ... hello darkness my old friend ... for the past two days. Maybe someone should tell them the released DJ isn't exactly news, anymore.

I've a couple more calls to make. I haven't stopped working any harder than I was a week ago ... but I have been working on something potentially longer needing more research. That type of writing doesn't really fit into the web log world - which is based on multiple timely updates throughout the day. It could turn out to be the best angle on at least some truth related to this case, so I'm sticking with it. On the otherhand, if you've ever tried to develop a news story, it isn't uncommon to go quite a ways down a road only to wind up with nothing ... only silence.

I'll keep providing updates ... keeps the noise level up and don't forget the link above. I have a dozen little tidbits, if nothing else, I'll get those up later tonight.

One last thing ... come spring and summer I love to put on some driving music, open up the car and cruise along the way. Two of my favorite tapes for that are custom recorded, one from the Allman Brothers ban circa early 70's and the other from Lynyrd Skynyrd. That first cut from the Skynyrd DVD ain't making it as driving music these days. Sorry for the cheap and legal rendition. You'll need your speakers for now. You're free to read along.

Why was the police (like cowboys) took the word of 3 thugs to arrest 2 black security gaurds?

Why was one of the security gaurds ushered out of bed, home searched in the early hours?

The 3 were allowed to drive away after giving this false "lead" and they werent arrested until 10 days later nor was the car(s) confiscated.

Who is doing the racial profiling?

I am just reciting facts in the public domain.

I have been following this case. I am an attorney in California. I have also been to Aruba for the scuba diving.

Here are my comments on Aruba: It is quite frankly one of the most expensive islands in the Caribbean. The food is very, very expensive. Apparently, all of the food is flown in, so food is expensive. And the restaurants charge big bucks to the tourists. My husband and I had hamburgers at a hotel poolside and it came to $50 (with no alcohol!). I am surprised no one in the media has mentioned how expensive the food is on the island.

Here are my comments on Natalee.

I do not believe the government in Aruba wants the truth to be revealed--regardless of what the truth is. Murder is such an ugly word and bad for tourism. But a mystery sells better. If Ms. Holloway's body is not found, the mystery will remain; Joran and the two other brothers will be released to live their lives, and Aruba will have a mystery--and tourists will flock to the island lured by the mystery, only to go see the bar where Natalee was last seen, to visit the beach she allegedly was at with Joran, and to travel to the light house, and to gawk at the Holiday Inn. It's human nature--like it or not. ARUBA needs TOURISM. And MYSTERY sells better than murder.

By the way, has anyone been compiling an evidence log of every piece of evidence with its source(es)? An evidence log that we can all access would be very helpful in eliminating theories.

Here are my theories:

First, Joran was with Natalee on that beach and she overdosed or had a drug-alcohol interaction, and passed out. Joran got scared and called his dad...who possibly helped get rid of the body to protect his job, and his son's future.

Second, Joran was with Natalee on that beach and some kind of date rape gone bad scenario occurred, with dad coming to the rescue...getting rid of body...

Third, Joran and the two brothers this time, in beach scene....Joran's dad coming to the rescue....

I do not think Ms. Holloway is alive. I wish to God I were wrong; but too much time has gone by.

the sad truth of it is your probably right. the entire investigation has been fouled multiple times and it wouldn't surprise me at all. you could see how incompetent the investigators are when greta sticks a microphone in steve croes face and he can't even answer simple questions. mickey john spoke volumes about this investigation. sad.

When Juran was first arrested, he looked like a frightened 17YO w/ his hands cuffed in front of him, looking to the ground. His face is free of blemishes well not discernible in the video.

Second picture of Juran: He is smug with acne all over his face. The hands are cuffed behind him. He turns to look at the camera as the car drives off. He is beginning to look like a well heeled suave criminalbelying his 17 years.

So what changed?

It seems really incriminating that Senior has indicated that he gave the boys legal advice of "no body, no crime" and just a day after her disapearence. Besides the lies the fact that none of them helped in the search speaks volumes in and of itself. I've noticed some posts about how some people feel sorry for Anita. Why? Some people might think I'm harsh for believing this, but as far as I'm concerned anyone that turns their back on their child's foibles and otherwise deviant behavior has no business being a parent. Leave the playing dumb acts for Jessica Simpson!

Katie, if Senior talked to the boys about the reality of the situation, I'd want to know all that was said and the context in which it was said before I jumped to any conclusions about his involvement in anything criminal.

I feel sorry for Anita. (I feel for Beth Twitty, too) I'm a mom -- so I can feel for her on that level, and I think that Anita must be devastated. And, there's no evidence (right now) that proves that her son has committed a crime. There's rumor, wild speculation and a seemingly dubious police investigation -- but -- no evidence. Until there's anything that surfaces to link Joran to a crime involving Natalee, I'm going to keep an open mind. JMO.

I've lived abroad, and I've learned that it's not wise to look at people who live outside of the US through Yank Filters. There are similarities and differences in the ways that Americans and Euros raise their children. Again, JMO.

My questions have to do with crime. If someones theory is that she was kidnapped? WHy on earth would it be so random? There are plenty of pretty blondes that vacation AND LIVE in aruba that dont go missing, only a few murders and rapes a year? C'MOn... I do not see Anita any other way but acting. I wish she would be brought in for questioning. Yoran was not mute at school so he must have also been talking at home. Something either PVDS or YVDS might have said could be a missing piece to the prosecution's puzzle.

Anita is a teacher, 12 grade class mother and is not a women without a clue of what is going on. Did you watch her face in the Dutch Interview. A direct contrast to when she was on American Interview.

I'm amazed and appauled at all the Anti Aruba things going on on this site. First off, just because she was American, does that make it any more sad than if she had been an Aruban girl murdered by another Aruban? I don't think so. It is ridiculous and disgusting to see how many people are demanding that Aruba be put on America's 'bad books'. Its a tiny island nation, with no natural resources and the ONLY medium of industry is tourism. One bad egg shouldn't destroy the whole lot. Many Many more Americans and tourists have been killed in the Bahamas over the years, same situation: tiny island nation with nothing but tourism...why aren't they on the 'bad books?' In fact, did any of you even know that? Probably not, because Nancy Grace wasn't around to tell you or make you angry at the beautiful country with people with relaxed caribbean attitudes. All this talk of the polis doing a bad job, so do the American police investigations: John Evander couey is currently a prime example...he wasn't given a lawyer when asked for one, and now he will probably get away with burying little Jessica Lunsford alive. I think that you should be writing to your congressman about that, before you destroy an entire country's income over a drunk girl who went off without her friends.

I'm appauled at how so many can say that the parenting of JdvS was awful, that he shouldnt have been allowed to drink and party and stay out at 17. The thing is, Natalee Holloway was doing the same. Life in small countries is different from America, where you can be married for 3 years and still nto be legally allowed to drink a glass of wine at dinner.

I think that everyone here needs to get up, buy a plane ticket and go to a real country, far far away from American, and learn that America isn't the centre of the world, nor the most important place, nor does it have all the answers.

its time to extract the van der sluts et al from aruba and take them to a safe place. They will talk only when they know they are safe. So, why wait 4 more months?Its got to be torture on them to live with lies for that much longer. lets set them free today by yanking them to an undisclosed location and showing them proper courtesy for such a fine family. Then perhaps they will properly understand their role in ms. holloway's dissappearance.
I am sure the DEA has enough info on drug activity and judicial corruption in aruba and the northern area of south america to work back channels. But in the meantime, lets arrange passage for the entire van der slut family to a more secure location. of course for their safety.

I agree with the sentiment i have gleaned from this site overall. this isnt simply a delinquent kid named van der slut killing a tourist.
the cover up has raised questions that demand international answers. The US govt should remove all van der sluts from aruba at once. How i dont care, perhaps the sharks are still hungry on the redneck riviera.
