I was looking into the idea that a cell call was made from St. Lucia and found an interesting news piece from St. Lucia stating the prison officials there are nervous due to the number of copters hovering in their vicinity. They're imagining it could be in preparation for a prison break, but I wonder if it couldn't be further investigation into the Holloway disappearance, but on that island?
Castries, St Lucia: The Bordelaise Correctional Facility, St Lucia's premier penal institution, went on alert Thursday [16 June], following fears of a prison break.

Deputy Director of the facility, Augustus Small, said that over the past 24 hours a number of unidentified helicopters had been hovering over the facility, which is situated in an uninhabited area near the east coast, some 20 miles from the capital.

He said that there was something unusual about the activity of the aircraft and prison authorities were in the state of readiness for any attempt from whatever source to free any of the 63 foreign prisoners held at the facility.

"These choppers have been hovering close to and around the prison facility, and while I am not saying that their intention is to facilitate the escape of any inmates, their presence in our airspace is unusual, and we need to be on our guard," he said.
Look what is happening now: Tree boys in custody, at least one of them (Joran) knows what really happened to the victim, based on very strong suspicion. Because of the different stories the boys are producing, the whole community gets messed up with dead ends and a lot of precious time and money and energy are just wasted for nothing. Day in day out, for two weeks now? And all this could take a fruitful course if just one of those suspects would confess the truth. I find that this is very unfair system, the boys know something, but they just refuse to confess. And everybody are just running like a bunch of cows from east/west/north/south/up/down for the sake of the truth at every single new word, said by the suspects, with a negative result at the end. So much energy is pushed in this case. My suggestion is that every country should make a new law, where, when there is a strong need to force an confession from a high profile suspect for the sake of the welfare of a country, the law should create a possibility for the police to forcefully/physical, beat a confession out of the suspect, all that for the sake for the good of the community and the human welfare. Of course the beating must be done by experts, under the supervision of the Attorney General. When such a system existed on Aruba, the whole case would have been solved in less then...24 hours!

I cant wait...pleeezzz hurry

OMG!!!! Dublin, that looks very very interesting!

Prison Breaks, herds of cows beating out confessions... Dan... please post --this is getting surreal.

Just watched Greta do an interview on the street with a young Arubian male, implicitly denying he knew or knew of JVDS... he made comment at the end of the interview that he hoped from the bottom of his heart that the police solved this... reminded me of a quote off an email you received and referenced (June 9?) from someone claiming to be JVDS. Is this a common phrase used by young males on Aruba?
Just had to ask, especially coming from someone who so vehemently denied knowing someone his age on such a small island.

If you beat it out of them, how do you know it's the truth? The boy could deny it (which may be the truth) but, suspicion says he's lying.

Yeah right!!!
Let's say you or anyone was in a foreign country and were arrested for a crime that you didn't do. You do really think it would be fair of them to torture you until you confessed? I think you must have typed that without really thinking.
(Not that I think HE is innocent because I think he is guilty as %#&!)

I hope this is over soon for the family’s sake.

The Caribbean News Network refers to "Arubagate". All attempts to protect any local bigwigs would fade in the mounting pressure from our side.

See UPDATE: The joint court of law of the Dutch Antilles and

Aruba

has granted Paul van der Sloot permission to visit his son Joran. That the decisions came Thursday afternoon after Paulus van der Sloot had filed a motion for allowing him to see his son on Wednesday. Initially the Aruban authorities had allegedly denied him visitation because of his status.

You guys have got to admit that all of these suppositions make for interesting reading... I think you could write a book simply on the blog info posted on all of the sites...

DAN....help, we are waiting for tonight's posting and more than that we are waiting on the resolution and final outcome for Natalee and her family.

Nagpur: I don't believe you suggested that! Beating can force people to confess things they haven't done.
This belongs to the dark ages of humanity.

Why are the Aruban rats preventing the FBI from doing their job? Is that an ego statement from their 'intelligent' cops?

http://www.caribbeannetnews.com/2005/06/15/fiddle.shtml

Remember Condit and Chandra Levy. Her family and everyone were convinced he did it, only to find out that she was a random victim.

If Joran was with her near the Marriott, then he needs to 'come clean' so authorities can find her -- ALIVE. Anything less would be a disaster.

A savings account has been set up for Natalee's family to help offset the unexpected cost in their remaining in Aruba to search for Natalee. The link is

Hi. Thank you for such a great and informative blog. I have taken many high school groups on trips and there's one thing I haven't seen or heard reported. Usually on a trip with a good deal of students involved they have roommates (usually 2 to 4 to room). Who was Natalee's roommate(s)? Where were they in the wee hours of the morning? Where did they stay that night? I think there could be more details on the morning awakening from the roommates standpoint. These kids from Birmingham have got to know more.

They were getting laid themselves.

Why is this blog the only place that it says that Joran's father has been given permission to see his son - because this is really bothering me that a 17 year old has not been seen by his parents. Also, someone made a very good point about why no roommate noticed her NOT being there all nite - did none of these kids go to their rooms that nite?? I mean if someone would have realized at 3 a.m. that she was not there - maybe more could have been done!

About Nat's roommates in Aruba....apparently, there was a lot of room switching and partying going on all through the night...they stayed at the pool until the wee hours and her roommates just assumed she stayed in someone else's room.

Man Fraid - Maybe I missed something, but everyone still 'knows' Condit had it done. He was very clever to have everything arranged so there would be no trail back to him. BTW there are those who are still convinced that his power stalled that investigation initially, too. I, for one, don't say Arubagate doesn't happen here or elsewhere, but what's going on is this island claims to be so safe, they'd better start living up to it.

Chandra Levy was in a BDSM relationship gone bad!

This isn't the only place that says Van Der Slut's daddy gets to see him...i saw it first on scared monkeys.

Tideroller -- I get your spin on Condit.

The Arubians knows there's a lot at stake here, so Joran goose is cooked.

It's too late for Aruba. Everyone will always remember Natalee having being lost down there.

i still have a hard time believing this immature 17 yr old could hold out this long and not admit what happened...especially if he fears his friends are ratting him out...
seems like he would "make a deal" to tell the truth and testify against his friends or vice a versa...or does Aruba work differently in that respect? if his father is such a well known and well thought of individual and jusdge as many posters have said, wouldn't the authorities be more willing to cut a deal and end all of this ongoing saga for Aruba??? Their tourism business is more valuable to them than a teen spending years in prison....

If Condit is so innocent, why did he refuse to take a polygraph that was offered by authorities??? Instead he hired his own polygrapher and took a "personal" polygraph and then submitted that to the police. As we all know, the policy didn't buy it! I never heard she was a random victim......

Has there been any "real" news today? Yesterday was such a rush of events and now nothing today other than the father's request to see Joran.
Does anyone else think that maybe they are much closer to solving this than anyone knows? I mean, all of the sudden they go and search the VDS home, take away two vehicles.

What about this???.... I'm thinking maybe one of the brothers has changed their story again and this is what prompted the search of the VDS home and confiscation of the two vehicles. I'm thinking they told the police they took Joran and Natalee to Joran's house and dropped them off there so they could "do whatever" and Joran said he would take Natalee back to her hotel later. I know he doesn't have a license to drive yet, but I bet he does drive...plus that late at night who would know he was driving anyway? After all, they get away with drinking, so what's to stop them from driving? Something happens at Joran's house, whether it was intentional or not, and now Joran needs help getting rid of the body so he makes a phone call at 6:30 am to someone to help him (I think I heard somewhere that Joran made a phone call at 6:30 am the next morning). Plus, I heard that he txt msg to Depak and told him he would email him later that evening, and from what I hear, he never did...hhhmmm. Doesn't this sound like it would have been a "conquest" email..perhaps to brag about whether or not he did anything with Natalee? Yet he didn't do it, why??, perhaps he was too busy trying to figure out what to do with her. This would make sense as to why all of the sudden 17 days after she goes missing the police go back to the VDS home, search his room for evidence and take the two cars that are at his house.... Perhaps thinking he used one of them to do whatever with Natalee....

What do you think?

Well, I didn't say there would be a prison break. Personally, I find it strange that a person running a prison with nearly 500 prisoners would claim there were numerous "unidentified" helicopters around his island or rather "prison" and not have found some way of identifying those said helicopters.

I would imagine, that particularly given the talk about copters using a naval launch for the search of Aruba that there might well be searches on other islands as well.

Another plausible explanation is that the boys did take a launch to this island with natalee, which makes me wonder what other activities on the island would there be where individuals could affort to use helicopters for transport. Hmmm drugs trafficking perhaps. So, where do you hide your prisoners so no one knows where they are?

Maybe they all did somthing to her .. and they are hoping no one finds the body ..they are told to change ther stories and play against one another to f*** us all up?? its some kind of scam and no one will get blamed cause theres so many diffrent stories going around..it will be like another ( MURDER IN GRENWICH,CT ) aka martha moxely case..bless her soul and family..util one of them goes into therapy for drugs and being so messed up and admits it...

WHATEVER IT TAKES.
THREATEN TO CUT HIS TONGUE OUT ...JUST DO IT. HE WILL CONFESS.

Hey Dublin...what is the info on the phone call? Did Joran make a call at 6:30am or did someone call him?

Kim-"Just watched Greta do an interview on the street with a young Arubian male, implicitly denying he knew or knew of JVDS..." Just had to ask, especially coming from someone who so vehemently denied knowing someone his age on such a small island.

I'm from Aruba, and you make it sound as though you have been here. I don't know Joran van der Sloot and don't pressume that everybody on this island know each other. I'm from Oranjestad and I don't know all the persons living in San Nicolas, Paradera, Oranjestad, St. Cruz or Noord. From every district I might know a few person and I know my family. It's not a small island so don't say everybody knows each other.

The longer the case isn't solved, the more elaborate the speculation. I am still in firm belief that the three of them have some sort of involvment with a rape/accidental murder (no one else). I don't think drugs were involved, but I think they all were drunk and wanted to take advantage of NH. I also think Natalie was drunk as well, because she wouldn't have been in that car otherwise. (don't think she was forced in, proposioned by Joran to go see sights ?? on her last night on the island)

In their original stories, they said that Van der Sloot was making out with her in the backseat of the car. Why would that come up unless it really happenned?? Why would the boys fabricate that piece?? I think the petting/kissing happenned during the ride out to a remote location.

So now, they have Natalie, and the brothers are jealous because they have nothing for the night. Joran probably was messing with her during the ride (a long ride to a remote place), and when they arrived, they all went for a walk on the beach. Joran initiated the kissing again in the remote part of the island, and then the three of them propositioned her...She obviously denied, and at that time, they forced themselves on her. During the altercation, things got real rough, and they murdered her.

After that, (fill-in if you may, I am not a sleuth for this part), knowing the island, they got rid of her body in the water, and unfortunatelly that is where it is now. They would need a car to get out to a remote place, (from my reading Joran doesn't have one) so the brothers had to be in the car.

The reason why I believe this is:
1) Joran knew NH and I bet there was some sort of connection between the two (alcohol made it a stronger connection)
2) Boys mentioned the kissing by Joran in original story (I think that really happenned during the ride out)
3) If the brothers weren't involved, why wouldn't they clear themsleves when they were first captured (incriminate Joran, I don't know their friendship to him, but how strong could it have been to cover up a murder for him)
4) They were the last ones seen with her, and this story seems to be in line with the obvious
5) One brother has a new story to send investigators on a goose chase (far from the body), saying they dropped off Joran by himself (flipping story to get themselves cleared), they made it believable by saying it was at the Marriot...Before they said the lighthouse, which I bet is a popular spot as well (can't be looking at the obvious)
6) Inconsistencies in everyone's stories shows that they are hiding something....If there was something else or someone else involved, they could tell the truth and get themselves off

I don't want to fear the worst, and I pray for the Holloway family.....I hope I am wrong, but these are my thoughts.....May God watch over Natalie

But he also claimed to be very good friends with one of the brothers. So it is easy to see why someone might assume he would have at least heard of Joran. Do you claim to be close personal friends with either of the brothers arrested with Joran? The you are comparing apples and coconuts.

Dublin: I believe Dan's earlier report suggested that choppers were searching "Santa Lucia" which is on the island of Aruba. Not to be confused w/St. Lucia the island. Someone said that their may have been a cell call to or from Van Der SLoots cell phone from the Santa Lucia area of Aruba. That is why choppers were checking it out.

The choppers at the prison in St. Lucia is kind of wierd coincidence though huh?

Kim,

“Just watched Greta do an interview on the street with a young Arubian male, implicitly denying he knew or knew of JVDS... he made comment at the end of the interview that he hoped from the bottom of his heart that the police solved this... reminded me of a quote off an email you received and referenced (June 9?) from someone claiming to be JVDS. Is this a common phrase used by young males on Aruba?”

Impressive recall and correlation!!

In my experiences (I have friends in Aruba, ages 19-32) expressions such as these are, in fact, common. I’m sure that I could easily find an email message with this exact statement! I do not wish to generalize; although, I have found that “cheesy”, juvenile, English expressions are used regularly!

I didn't say everyone knew everyone, I just thought it was peculiar how emphatic he was when he said he didn't know him, or mainly that he didn't even know OF him, because they have mutual friends and this case is quite public there, I assume... ;)
I don't hear many men or boys in our part of the country use the phrase "I hope to God" or "I hope from the bottom of my heart" too often, so I was wondering, as my post said, if that is not an uncommon phrase there.

Aruba has granted Paul van der Sloot permission to visit his son Joran. That the decisions came Thursday afternoon after Paulus van der Sloot had filed a motion for allowing him to see his son on Wednesday. Initially the Aruban authorities had allegedly denied him visitation because of his status.

credible Source of this news?

Here is just one of the many thoughts that I have.
Brothers drive around with Joran and Natalee having a good time and then they drop Joran and Natalee off somewhere and they (brothers) head on home. Natalee thinks that maybe they will share one last walk home on a bueatiful beach in the caribbean, with her new friend in Aruba but Joran wants more than just another walk and he is determined. Joran gets so upset that Natalee refuses that Joran "does something bad" to her in the heat of the moment. He is so scared that he runs home to daddy and tells hime everything. Daddy tells Joran he (daddy) will take care of everything. Joran crackes under pressure during the beginning but daddy gets word to him (maybe through mother who already visited) that if he confesses to anything then he would be prosicuted. No one can find her because the father was smart enough to take care of it in the 12 hours before there was any sort of massive search.
This is just a thought of mine and should not be taken as fact.
Hamn

Just a few things.

Before their pages were deleted at tickle.com there were numerous pictures of Van der Sloot and the Kalpoes together including some that were taken on vacation in Venezuela. They knew each other very well. Of that I am certain.

Now, a few hypothetical scenarios.

I have firmly believed that Van der Sloot is the leader and the brothers Kalpoe the followers. I still do.

Did Natalee overdose from a date rape drug? Maybe.

If reports, including that of Geraldo Rivera are true, then Van der Sloot sold a video of he and some of his buds gang banging a girl. I read (don't ask me for the source because I cannot remember it) that the girl was an American tourist. If what I recall is true then could it be possible that they wanted to film another video? If so then maybe Natalee refused and Van der Sloot's rage set in. Or maybe she ran and had an accident.

I hate to say this but everyone knows what the ultimate end to this is probably going to be. So I will proceed from there.

In think Natalee died at Arashi beach, but I do not think she will be found there. My understanding of Arashi beach is that it is very secluded, but the water is also very shallow. I don't think you can toss anything into the water at Arashi beach that will not return to shore.

Having said all that I am not an hydrologist nor an ocean engineer nor a detective. I am just a guy who wants to know what happened to the poor girl.

If anyone would care to comment on my thoughts then I would appreciate hearing what you have to say. Tear my thoughts apart if you can because I will not be offended in the least.

I thought of that to...just could be

WELL, NO NEWS TODAY TO AMOUNT TO ANYTHING.
GUESS IT IS TIME FOR THE FIRING SQUAD TO ASSEMBLE.
TAKE THE 3 GUYS TO THE BACK OF THE JAIL..
SET UP 3 POSTS. GET THE MENS WITH THE GUNS OUT THERE FOR THEM TO SEE. GET THE BLACK HEADCOVERS. TIE ALL 3 OF THEM TO THE POST. COVER THEIR HEADS AND GIVE THEM ALL 3 MINUTES TO SPEAK AND TELL THE TRUTH AND I BET THEY WILL BE HOLLERING TO TELL THE TRUTH. IF THEY DO NOT. WELL, THATS A DIFFERENT STORY...BUT I DOUBT THAT WOULD HAPPEN.
TRUST ME THIS WOULD WORK!! NOW GO TO YOU CORUPT GOVERNMENT OF ARUBA.......
FOLKS WE CAN NOT LET THIS DIE. NOT EVER.
THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH.

Copters over St. Lucia or Santa Lucia? Can someone clarify? Regardless of where they are, how does it relate to Natalee? I doubt that many copters are needed to do an infra-red search on such a small island...if they are indeed over Aruba. This whole thing is getting too bizarre. I'd like to think that even those in prison are so frustrated with this case that they are planning a break & a riot....however, I doubt that is the case!

As for why none of the brats have confessed, I think they are purposely pointing fingers at one another, changing stories, letting things drag on because....as time passes....there is less chance of the murder being solved. Evidence disappears or deteriorates. Every moment they jerk us around....we are further from the case being solved. All energy is being focused on the 3 "boys" and what they say....rather than focusing on finding Natalee. If we all sit and wait for a real "breakthrough" from those 3, we will be sadly be sitting here as skeletons conversing on this blog.

I think they know what they are doing. I wouldn't doubt they have been coached by Daddy-O Van der Sloot. Perhaps Daddy-O even met with them all at their post crime gathering. Now Daddy-O wants to meet with his son in prison because he fears his son is ready to crack. He's been heard sobbing in his cell (poor baby). Daddy-O wants to make sure the junior degenerate keeps his mouth shut. After all, he has knowledge of the law in Aruba. He knows that his son will "get off" eventually if Nat's body is not found. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe a "body" needs to be found to convict someone of murder in Aruba. You can have loads of evidence....but without a body....there is no murder.

If the authorities sit on this case long enough, & listen to the BS coming from those 3, there will be no body, no case, no conviction. I think all implicated will go free. I think that is the master plan here.

I hope I am wrong...but...I can't think of any other logical reason why these 3 change stories and contradict themselves. It appears to be a stalling technique. If any of the 3 were truly innocent.....a formal statement would have been made by now...at least by one of them!

I believe the choppers over the prison in St. Lucia (the island) are unrelated to any choppers searching for Natalee. Of coure, i could be wrong but can't imagine why they would be searching for Natalee by air in St. Lucia.

Supposedly, there was some sort of communication by cell phone in the Santa Lucia area of Aruba which prompted the search helicopters.

Dan's post from earlier"

"On Natalee's Yahoo forum there there is a report that a helicopter is searching Santa Lucia area because according to the cell phone records of one of the three suspects there was a call in the Santa Lucia area at 6:30 am the morning Natalee was to have met up with the group to leave for airport.

Santa Lucia is in Santa Cruz....pass the Ayo Rock Formations.... Right where they have the Donkey sanctuary on map on 2nd page of map Body maybe somewhere around area of Ayo Rock Formations."

HuntsVegas....

Thanks for the copter info.

Wishful thinking, but doubtful...perhaps Natalee is alive (probably not well, though) on St. Lucia.

Does anyone know what time Natalee's flight was due to depart that morning?

Also, as for the supposed text message to the "brothers"....what time was that?

The Santa Lucia phone call...incoming or outgoing, and to or from whom?????

There must be records of these cell phone communications that can easily be traced, especially in a case where time is of the essence! Why are the authorities dragging their feet on this????? Hmmmmmmmm....

Just read that the helicopters were searching for remains.

Also, that law there allows for suspects to be held for up to 116 days without being formally charged!!!!.....That means this could go on and on with no real answers....how horrible this would be for Natalee's family...

"We are discouraging everyone from traveling to the Caribbean, and especially to Aruba. Our country may not be perfect, but we are able to solve crimes and thoroughly investigate missing persons with a greater level of expertise," said Russ and Dee from the 'Morning Show' in a letter to Caribbean Net News, adding that, "when Americans want to go to the islands we will encourage our thousands of listeners to go to the Hawaiian islands."

http://www.caribbeannetnews.com/2005/06/17/issue.shtml

Our country IS NOT perfect. We kill each other regularly...and this is rarely "big news". Americans suffer not only from extremely high homicide rates; rape, robbery, and kidnapping are all, unfortunately, very common. It is not uncommon for crimes in our country-with our technology and our expertise-to go unsolved.

We do not incarcerate a murderer and his/her family, friends, and neighbors…throwing them all together to pay for the criminal act caused by one. Why would it even be suggested that this be done to the Aruban people?

We cannot fault the Aruban public for this incident. Empathic, committed, and supportive Arubans do not deserve unnecessary punishment for a (potential) crime that they did not commit.

Understandably, we want resolve. Pressure needs to be placed on Aruban authorities, not the Aruban people.

I agree totally OneHappyChica! It amazes me how many folks are suddenly "holier than thou" when the shoe is on the other foot. This is truly a terrible situation with Natalee, but I wonder how many visitors to our great country have gone missing?? I don't recall us EVER launching an all out search or giving employees time off of work to aid in the search for a visitor.....

The Arubans have been supportive and caring. Not all people are good, nor or all bad...all countries have some of both...America is no exception, nor is Aruba

Jan - We've talked before about this. I thought it was quite clear that, in this case, the father is certainly no good influence on the boy. Logic makes the father suspect as to either advising or helping the boy dispose of the body. Or it's at least highly likely that he's coached him to crack up and confess because as long as there's no body there's no case. There have been some indications that the "boy" was starting to crack. Now if Papa marches in and encourages him to "keep it zipped" we have another setback for the Holloway family. Think of their suffering. We're not talking about an innocent young boy here, we are taling about a perverted predator. He can go a few days without seeing his Dad. (He is allowed visits from the mother.) After all, Beth Holloway may have to spend the rest of her life without seeing her daughter. This "softy" attitude toward Joran, with the liberal upbringing, or should I say, no-upbringing that his parents gave him is probably the very reason he is where he is right now and where he should be, rotting in jail. If your heart is going to bleed, you would do better for it to bleed for Beth and Natalee Holloway.

This post is worthy of quoting over and over again. "the father is certainly no good influence on the boy. Logic makes the father suspect as to either advising or helping the boy dispose of the body.
