My Downfall Has Always Been "Technique"

From Michelle Malkin: WORD OF THE DAY: APPOGGIATURA

I was a finalist at the Atlantic County, N.J., 8th grade spelling bee. We were down to a half-dozen competitors. My last word was "inextricable." I spelled it right, but got buzzed. What? What did I do wrong?

My tragic fall came in the Mercer County, NJ version of a spelling bee held by The Grange Society, fourth grade, I believe - the word was "technique."

And, yes, I cried. But I also set the then township recreational football league record for most touchdowns scored the following year, so STFU!

And, no, I'm not spelling that last one out! Heh!
