Update:
police confirm the following have been found at the search scene: Women’s underwear
Condoms
Pieces of duct tape
Micky John declared yesterday that the two brothers confessed to him.
After leaving Arashi /Lighthouse, they left Natalee with Joran at Fisher's mans hut a beach close to the Hyatt. They went to swim at that beach.
That was the last time they saw Natalee. They went home and went to the internet to chat. After one hour, they received a message from Joran that stated: "I have something to tell you"
This was statement of Micky John, detainee, that helped to secure his freedom yesterday.

Thanks, Dan. Way to go. You've been doing a fabulous job keeping us informed.

So...what does this mean? Did she drown; did he hurt her?? Do we know???
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:16 PM
Fisher's mans hut is nor near Hyatt but near Mariott
Posted by: asd | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:17 PM
Fox News on tv is saying they are investigating by the Marriott; they found panties and condoms...
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:19 PM
Just an observation, but the underwear that kid was holding looked really big. Perhaps too big for someone of small stature.
Posted by: BB | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:20 PM
Something big should be happening soon...lots of info coming out in short period. The guard convo was a big lead. THose panties did look rather large...yet they said an ARTICLE of clothing. Looked like a halter top to me actually. Durex condoms.
Posted by: KayRay | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:24 PM
That place is considered "a lovers Hut" probably lots of condoms and underwear
Posted by: MiMi | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:24 PM
What's everyone's take on this...what do you think happened to her?
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:25 PM
okay now says PANTIES,USED condoms, a ROPE, and DUCT tape
Posted by: KayRay | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:26 PM
Why would authorities allow people to handle the evidence like that? What, are they holding it up and passing it around? Shouldn't they bag it and keep everyone's mitts off of it?
Posted by: pw | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:26 PM
string, tape, panties, condoms (all found)...they are saying that possibly "someone put her body in the water."
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:29 PM
good point MiMi...but the truth will come out with examinations and tests. I have read a lot of places that Natalee wasnt the girl portrayed in the news...has ran away from home before, had drug probs at 16, and did have her share of boy flings. Which is true? I mean to think a girl would go off and screw a guy she has never met while alone makes me think otherwise...
Posted by: KayRay | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:34 PM
If that is a know lovers spot and Heaven forbid they decide to take DNA from whatever they find.
At the rate they are going we will be waiting another 20yrs to get answers.
Posted by: Caly | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:37 PM
why the HELL is that random guy holding a pair of panties walking around with EVIDENCE??? What kind of operation is this??? Damn.
Posted by: KayRay | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:37 PM
hasibokos is saying that the police expect to solve this within the next 24 hours.
Dan, you've linked to them before but for ease here's the link again:

Hi Dan, you're doing a great job. I am watching on T.V. all the breaking news. I believe they have found the body. Please see if you can find out why it has taken so long for the authorities in Aruba to get to the truth. Could it be the father of JVS has been making arrangements to get his son off the island? Keep up the great work Dan we are all behind you out here in blog land. The blogs know more than the cable news.
Posted by: ezekielsign | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:40 PM
Dan,
I just want to thank you for all that you have done with reporting on this for us. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Natalee at this very trying time.
Posted by: Kris | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:40 PM
Is Kay Ray on site there in Aruba. What do you mean a random guy walking around with evidence? Is the scene secure, are the parents there?
Posted by: t b | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:41 PM
KayRay, would you stop saying negative things about Natalee? She is obviously the victim here, and she is not around to defend herself. Seems like a person who had a full scholarship to the premedicine program at an Alabama University has had her stuff together for quite some time. I question the sources of the reports stating she ran away, had drug problems, was permiscuous. The focus should be on FINDING her and bringing the perpetrators to JUSTICE, not rumors and innuendo. Sheesh.

While I hopt this is some sort of break in the case, I am skeptical. I am always skeptical of jailhouse informants and confessions to cellmates or cell neighbors. Why tell a fellow inmate if you aren't going to tell the cops?
I am also skeptical that finding undergarments, bikini strings or condoms means anything. Considering the number of vacationing teens and the party atmosphere complete with alcohol, I imagine those articles are as common as paper litter.
Posted by: LornaD | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:44 PM
KayRay I agree what is this guy doing holding possible evidence?
Posted by: ezekielsign | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:44 PM
Amen PW!
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:45 PM
KayRay is an excellent of one of the ugliest traits of women; their love of smug, self righteous rock throwing in the direction of any female who had a little fun and a lot of bad luck.
Posted by: LornaD | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:47 PM
Lorna D,
I pray that your skepticism (sp) is right and that this find is nothing.
Can anyone who is watching the news confirm that Natalee's mom is on the scene?
Posted by: Kris | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:47 PM
I am sorry you got upset with my comments. I am not saying I believe any of it, I am just saying I READ it and I feel its important to know any kind of facts or possible ones for this story to make sense. THis is all very unfortunate and I dont mean to disrespect her or her family and friends...I am just reporting what I have heard and read. Most of this is coming from people who claim to live in or around her hometown. And it WOULD make a difference in the story if proved as factual.
Posted by: KayRay | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:48 PM
they are interviewing the boy who found this evidence. found it; held it and then called the police...pink panties with flowers, condom and pieces of tape!
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:49 PM
Are you saying if a woman is loose she deserves to be killed. Pleeeeeese
Posted by: Tanya | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:51 PM
RELEVANT!!!!!!!!! Once again, in case some of you missed this on my last post, I found this explanation of events leading up to N's disappearance. It was apparently written by the mother of one of N's friends who was on the trip.

"NATALEE WAS NOT THE GIRL WHO WAS SICK IN THE BATHROOM AT C&C's! My daughter had already told me she was puzzled by that story 'cause she neither saw nor heard anything of the kind regarding Natalee. We were at the vigil yesterday and they were discussing that... It turned out to be other girls on the trip. Somebody had mentioned that at church and these girls went, "Oh no! That was US!" It was definitely not Natalee.
My daughter spoke with Natalee right after C&C's closed.
My daughter & her friends came across Nat & Joran as all were exiting the club, and all were walking more or less together toward another group of classmates.
Natalee was walking unassisted (not falling down drunk), spoke ok (though not answering in long sentences), and was not touching Joran. My daughter only noticed that Joran was tall, dark-haired, American-looking; he did not speak and she couldn't read his facial expressions.
Nat turned down my daughter's invitation to go with her little group. (Ironically, they were about to circle the inside of another club to make sure no others were left behind.)
Nat assured them that she was fine, and said she was going to go back to the hotel "with THEM," pointing to the MBHS group just a few yards ahead.
The Kalpoes were nowhere in sight; neither was the car.
Next Alana heard was that Natalee got into a car that many in the group had thought was a taxi. (Those look like regular cars.)
It may be that the Kalpoes pulled up on the street before Natalee reached the next group; Joran may have deliberately stalled her. The group may not have even realized she was behind them, approaching. But while we hear that she got in the car willingly, we know from her comments that it was not her pre-planned intention.
Because of this, I do not believe she knew she would be going anywhere but a fairly short distance down to the hotel. Her plans changed in the blink of an eye, and she was gone."

kayray - fyi - i was raped, and it doesn't matter if i was a virgin or had 50+ partners - i did not ask to be raped. a young woman vacationing and having a good time - and what she deemed as having a good time may differ from what you would do to have a good time (maybe a night of bingo???) - doesn't mean that she deserved to have "something bad happen" to her.
this isn't about her and her past. it may have been if there were no clues or suspects - they would look into her past behaviour. but there is evidence and there are suspects - the focus should not be on her mistakes, and i am appalled that you would incinuate otherwise.
Posted by: kh | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:52 PM
LornaD, I too am a bit puzzled at WHY would these boys share information with one of the security guards that were being held vs. speaking the truth to the police...What would the reason be for that?
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:52 PM
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me a name or e-mail for anyone in the embassy or parliment in Aruba?
Posted by: Donna | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:53 PM
I am thinking it was just too much publicity and it was too much to handle. He is the oldest and by releasing it to another inmate he didn't actually tell officials.
Posted by: Tanya | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:55 PM
Ria, I agree with you and Lorna D...it doesn't make sense, and why then would they even feel the need to make up the first story. That part doesn't make sense to me at all. And then to suddenly feel the need to tell a fellow inmate what "really" happened instead of say...your lawyer....what did the other brother say happened...where they both in the same cell? I thought all 3 of them were separated.
Posted by: Jay | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:57 PM
I am very sorry for what happened to you. I do know that rape has no specific targets, it can happen to anyone. I am also a Criminal Justice minor in college and do know that MOST girls raped whether its nice to say or not, put them selves in a comprimised situation. Meaning, they were making passes and being overly flirtatious...then the guy wants sex and gets mad when she realizes she doesnt want to go that far.
REGARDLESS, I hope NONE of that has happened. That is a horrible thing and I would never wish that on anyone regardless of their past. I was, like I said, only stating it for everyone to see...just like a lot of the blog entries are stuff being HEARD by people.
No one person "deserves" to be raped or assaulted in any way. But these guys were known to go to the tourist bars specifically looking for a "good time" after the bars closed.

Dan, how you holding up? You are doing an awesome job...THANKS :)
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 03:58 PM
a truck at the scene with a couple of "dumpsters." ????
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 04:01 PM
Apparently the brothers had no idea who it really was that they were talking to. Micky John and the boy at the beach deserve to receive the reward money if infact this does break the case. Wouldn't that be ironic, the poor security guards get picked up and they end up helping to break the case. I hope they can extradite Van Der Sloot to the US to face charges if he did infact kill Natalee and then bury her body or throw her in the ocean. My heart aches for Natalee's family. I pray they can find peace and heal.

uh oh...that doesnt sound good. Where did you see this or read this? Can we get an update maybe? Great job on the updates so far!

KAYRAY,
You said, "I am also a Criminal Justice minor in college and do know that MOST girls raped whether its nice to say or not, put them selves in a comprimised situation. Meaning, they were making passes and being overly flirtatious...then the guy wants sex and gets mad when she realizes she doesnt want to go that far."
You are too close-minded to be in Criminal Justice. I cannot BELIEVE you insinuate that women put themselves in a position to be raped. What is your problem? Your statements are appalling. NO ONE DESERVES TO BE RAPED, whether she is a 10-year-old virgin or a college woman who had too much to drink, wore a skirt, and smiled at a boy. You are too self-righteous to be involved in criminal justice.
Posted by: pw | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 04:04 PM
What is it that they are unloading from the truck? It looks like they must have some good reason to be searching that area the way that they are. I feel so sorry from for what this family has went through.
I have been reading this blog for the last week and I would like to say thank you for all your time - you have done a great job.
Posted by: Hman | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 04:05 PM
KH--My heart is with you as I understand your feelings. I also was the victim of a rape..
Kay Ray--with all due respect your statement that MOST girls who are raped are flirting, etc. I believe this to be a crock.. Explain to me, if you will how it is then that I was attacked from behind walking to my car. Believe me I neve flirted with my attacker. Even if Natalee was flirting, she did not deserve this. And her past sexual history has NOTHING to do with it.
Posted by: Kris | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 04:06 PM
Kayray I am sorry you feel that way. I almost lost my sister in Jamaica when she got out of her car after leaving work to retrieve her glasses that had fallen. Two men came up behind her and tried to force her into the car. She threw herself on the ground by the car and fought them off by kicking the shorter one in his legs repetely and using her hand to push herself away from the car. She told us she knew if they got her into that car she was dead. They eventually took the car when her screaming rape got someones attention. She went back to work with her bruises still showing 2 days later.
Don't tell me she would have deserved it if she had been raped and killed.

Great Job Dan
Posted by: Mike | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 04:07 PM
I was drugged and raped in Cancun, was not being too flirtatious, did not put myself in a "compromising" situation, but was given a beer with GHB in it, pulled out of the club before I fell on my face, became practically paralyzed for the next 12 hours, and certainly was not "asking for it". Perhaps you should not be a "minor" in criminal justice, but instead should get a full degree and go to law school to get your profiling straight.
Posted by: A | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 04:08 PM
Let's hope that the FBI is at the scene "advising" the local flatfoots otherwise I fear that the crime scene will be compromised and valuable evidence will be destroyed or otherwise rendered unusable for trial purposes.
Posted by: jay | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 04:09 PM
Regarding the truck with the "dumpsters." They showed that on FOX TV News! They broke away from the scene so...I do not know what that was all about! Maybe Dan will find something out for us on that!
Posted by: Ria | Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 04:09 PM
If I am not mistaken, the dutch government will not extradite Jorin to the US because we have the dealth penalty. No European government allows extrradition to a country that upholds the dealth penalty.

Dan: Where did you get the information that "the two brothers" confessed? What I'm getting is that it was ONE brother. ????

This is all so very sad! Keep us posted. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

GIRLS!!!!! Never wander off alone - NEVER, EVER leave your drink alone. Never think you can trust anyone! You travel with girlfriends; you STAY TOGEHTER - (((ALWAYS)))!! I have mixed drinks in my hotel room and I drink bottled beer (if I drink) when I frequent a bar! I watch the bartender open that beer and never lose sight of it from that point on!!!
UPDATE: they brought in a generator and mentioned something about draining a pond nearby where some evidence was found!
