Arbua Aviation's web site links to Aruban news media -- Here's today's news from amigoe.com in English:
"ARUBA – The Public Prosecution (OM) was in court yesterday for four different cases that had to do with the investigation on the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. The father and the lawyer of Joran van der Sloot, Paul van der Sloot and Anthony Carlo, demanded the Court to let them see the boy. Furthermore, two lawyers presented the examining judge with a professional code, demanding a copy of all the documents that the OM has. The suspects in question were present in the courtroom when the professional code was attended to. The examining Judge gave verdict this morning, but the result was not out yet at the time this paper went to press.
Paul van der Sloot has lodged a complaint against the OM because he was not allowed to see his son. Also the boy’s lawyer is supposedly not allowed to see his client. Both notices of objection were down for hearing yesterday. The OM confirms that they were summoned to be heard in connection with a submitted notice of objection about Van der Sloot and Carlo not being allowed to see the boy. Carlo emphasized that he is still Van der Sloot’s lawyer, which is contrary to the reports in different media. “I am his lawyer and have been so all along. Nobody can stop me of being his lawyer, only Joran himself or his parents, but that’s not the case”, said Carlo. Paul van der Sloot is self a substitute member of the Common Court of Justice of the Neth.Antilles and Aruba.
Yesterday, Rudi Oomen and another lawyer lodged an appeal against the decision of the OM about not giving them all the documents. They are of the opinion that this way the defense of their clients is being harmed.
Spokesperson of the OM, Mariaine Croes confirmed that the OM was heard in both cases yesterday. According to lawyer Oomen, his client has nothing to do with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Even though he didn’t want to go into details as regards contents, he did say though that Deepak Kalpoe is definitely not trying to put the guilt on someone else. It also upsets the lawyer that his client is being qualified as a liar.

Another search at Van der Sloot’s house
ARUBA – Five police officers searched the home of Joran van der Sloot in Montana yesterday. According to police spokesman Papito Comencia, this search is a more technical one. In the course of the evening, the helicopter made another round above a few areas, while using special equipment for more technical search.
Aruban police officers together with FBI agents and the Dutch Forensic Institute did the house search. They confiscated two cars of the family and other things that might be of interest for the investigation, confirmed the OM. It took the agents of the Criminal Investigation Service four hours to do the search. The house in Montana was searched before, when Van der Sloot was arrested last week Thursday. That’s when they confiscated a computer and also other things. The 17-year old student has been locked up for a week in connection with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway on Mai 30th.
Meanwhile, a slander campaign against Aruba has started, in which the family Van der Sloot is being portrayed as a ‘completely disfunctional, morally bankrupt group of animals’. In this campaign, Joran is being linked up with the production of pornographic videos, the group raping of a 14 year old girl, and violent conduct against his classmates. According to the sender, a certain Dan Ferrill, Joran is extremely spoiled. Despite his young age, he drives a car with the consent of his parents; he is a regular visitor of the casinos and nightclubs. Ferrill also thought that he should spread the news that Van der Sloot Senior does his utmost to disturb the investigation of the police by distroying of pieces of evidence. Ferrill keeps mentioning that all his insinuations come from heard saying and that these are rumours, but he finishes his email with a call for boycotting Aruba."

I read about a large percentage of the island's people having the sur name, Croes, but just curious about the relationship of Steve, if any, to:
Justice Minister Rudy Croes;
and the Minister of Justice, Edward Croes.

Lou and Tideroller,
Am an American sitting up here in Virginia, Air Force Veteran. Being in many countries with many 18, 19, 20 year old airmen from across the US.
My point is, how could 130+ kids be sent on a trip and there was no plan on how to keep them safe. What do you say Mt Brook?
Aruba didn't cause the disappearance of Natalee, some kid did. Samething could and does happen here.
It was booze, no buddy system, and a punk kid. Quit the whinning about Aruba.
Posted by: Man Fraid | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 11:37 AM
I gotta say I agree with Man Fraid. Apparently the charm of this island is its laid back attitude and then this anomaly crops up and everyone's expecting them to heave ho like a sophisticated CSI investigation. It makes sense to me and I think they're doing their best within their resources. This is a one person on one person deal and obviously not an indicator of an entire community in terms of safety issues.

Yes I own ArubaAviation.com & Air Aruba Virtual
Airlines. We do have a Steve Croes subscribed to Air Aruba but I've never had contact with the guy. Again, Air Aruba is a virtual airline not a real one so chances are "our" Steve Croes is not even a real pilot. I do have links to Media on ArubaAviation.com and I also provide on occasion
a link to live Aruba ATC (Air Traffic Control).
I'm asking about the Tatoo because I'm hearing
a rumor for some time now.
Re: The Governments Spokesperson
I think no government wants to admit there
are problems. The crime rate is indeed very low
but by no means non existant.
I can honestly say a vast mayority of Arubans
like & support Americans so we would have no reason to cover up this case. We also treat
our tourists better than we would our own people
sometimes. There shouldn't be any hiding here,
something went wrong in Aruba (regardless of what happened) and we all feel guilty for it.
Unfortunatly Joran's dad is a judicial worker
and because of the Dutch Laws it opens the door
for so much speculations. The fact is we do
not like the way the investigation is going either but it is nothing new for us.
The police here is always like that.
I just knew that when the guards got out
we wouldn't get as much info as before.

Great job Dan. You were very composed and professional. No mention of WTW though, huh? :)
Posted by: Buckley F. Williams | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 12:03 PM
Hi Man Fraid,
I agree with you in the sense that this seems to be an isolated case in Aruba, and not a common problem. I have been multiple times in Aruba, and I consider it’s a considerable safe place for everybody including teenagers and kids.
I think is safer to send 130+ kids to Aruba without supervision, than sending them to Iraq with supervision.
One of the problems I see in this case, is that maybe the police and government authorities are not prepared to handle this case, since is not a normal situation. That is the reason I think Aruba should accept all the input and help offered by the FBI and US government.
The media has also had a double role:
In one hand by putting some level of pressure to the authorities and investigators (I consider very important in order to find Natalee and the causes of her disappearance). But, in the other hand by being the source of distortion and false information.
Fortunately thru these blogs we have the chance to get more info and share comments, theories and ideas with other people.

Hyro - many young American girls have tatoos. What are you hearing?
Isn't it possible that the 3 original boys in custody have "confessed" what they know, and are being held for their own protection? Just a thought...
Posted by: livesatthebeach | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 12:19 PM
Hi livesatthebeach,
Per my understanding the 3 guys have been moved to a prison, instead of keeping them in the police facilities. If such is the case, I don’t think you move “innocent” people or witnesses to a prison for their own protection.
These guys are suspects and most probably they will be accused of the disappearance of NH in the next days, but we can only guess and speculate about the specific charges.

SHOW AND TELL:
Ah…the good ‘ole days of elementary school. What ever happened to that treasured game of show and tell? When did it become obsolete? Or…has modernization reduced this to simply “show”?
We’ve been given a show. Six suspects (thus far) have taken the stage. We’ve seen pictures and websites, we’ve read conflicting accounts and characterizations, we’ve observed searches, etc. And…we’re all asking is this “staged”?
The media will not be able to hold the public at a climax for much longer. Before this story loses public interest and media attention, pressure needs to be placed on those involved with this investigation (or those that can rightfully place pressure on this investigation). I definitely do not want (potentially) misguided and/or corrupt and/or inept authorities to write the ending to this REAL life story, nor do I want a “story”…I’m seeking facts!
We can no longer cling onto the “no news is good news” concept. It’s time to SHOW AND TELL!
ATTENTION COWBOYS:
“Asked why it took investigators more than two weeks after Holloway's disappearance to search the van der Sloot home, Janssen said Thursday, ‘You have to build up an investigation. You can't just go in there like a cowboy, you have to give certain direction to investigators’."
Since none of us maintain authority positions in this case and are not tangibly contributing to investigations, put on your hats (thinking caps), grab your lassos (pens), let out a big YEE-HAW (“I want answers!”), and tackle this from a distance…as a cowboy!!
Fellow cowboys, I suggest that we follow Dan’s advice…“If this drags on pointlessly in the next week, then it is time to petition the State Department and the US Ambassador to Aruba to put the squeeze on.”
It’s time to “round up” the facts!
WHAT HAPPENS IN ARUBA…
There is an infamous saying…“WHAT HAPPENS IN ARUBA, STAYS IN ARUBA”.
Natalee was vacationing in Aruba. Do not allow her to stay in Aruba!

Joran seemed to pay a lot of poker. Was he any good at it? Did he owe anybody money? Did he have enemies?
Posted by: rastak | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 12:41 PM
unbeleivable these cops have been outwitted and outsmarted by some 17 and 18 year olds. What a pity. The truth may never be known. The investigation was bungled from the start

To my understanding they did search Joran's house
the first time they detained him.
I may be wrong but that's what I understood.

I agree with that 110% percent!!! Perhaps if that had happened, Natalee would be at home right now...

"Joron's parents are being interrogated as witnesses, not as suspects." A witness against their son? Is that a joke?. Please has anyone heard of any murders In aruba recently? I am seeing references to a missing person and a person being murdered but no info.
Is any of this true.

Dan I enjoyed your interview however referencing people that listen to Hip Hop and being "ganstas" is going a little too far. In the pictures it looked like young kids playing around trying to do "cool" poses. I'm a 30 year old female with an MBA and I listen to Hip Hop...Am I a gansta? Uhhh no. Do I make funny poses while taking pictures? YES. Stop stereotyping.......
I'm concerned on why the "honor student" Natalie chose to leave with not 1 but 3 STRANGERS in a FOREIGN country. The chaperones are there to supervise but they can't stay up allll night running after kids. I'm sure they told everyone to stick together and to LEAVE TOGETHER. What happened when they were alllll supposed to leave? Sorry but it just annoys me big time. Anyway, I REALLY feel for her mother and I'm sure that this is all new to Aruba. They have a very low crime rate (1 murder per year) therefore having to do a major investigation like this is unheard of in this island since 7 years ago (the other missing female).

Fox news on now. The parents, both of them are now leaving the police station. Its 2:10 in the afternoon and the fox camera man was right there when they came out and left. They both have been there for hours.
What is going on.
Anyone that gets any news....post it!!

Mary -
Parents haven't left the police station yet. I thought he said that too, then he later said they were still inside and he was waiting for them to leave... I thought I heard the same thing.

Lisa - You're reading way too much into it. Go back and watch the tape - I said that played at being mini-gangstas, much like too many American teens. Nothiong I said had anything to do with suggesting what the pics represented made them killers. And I doubt you take group pictures with your friends doin' the "pose" and label it "the pimps" - course, I could be wrong on that one. : ) The fact is I wasn't on longer because I told the producer I wasn't there to do a hit job and what I saw on the site was mild compared to those of plenty of 16 year old American Girls, for heaven's sake. You're making a mountain out of a molehill. But I do thank you for speaking up and for reading. - Dan

Dan, you are amazing, and looked great last night!
Thank you for being the voice of reason in the middle of all this insanity and uncertanty!!!
Posted by: pam | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 02:34 PM
Obviously people who read these blogs are of various ages from various places..
But just so everyone knows, it's not that hard to believe that teenagers take pictures of themselves and label them "pimps" or "hos."
I just graduated college, cum laude, in May 2005, and I gotta tell you guys, I have thousands of pictures of my friends and I fom our senior year. And yes, some of them are nice, normal photos (like us being initiated into the Honor Society), while others are a little more crazy, party pictures (us dancing on top of bars while dressed up as pimps and hos for a "Pimp N Ho Party")... That doesn't make us bad people.
Take that however you want, but just so everyone knows, the fact that people between the ages of like 18 and 22 have insane photos with their friends, labelling them as "gangstas" or "pimps" or "hos" doesn't necessarily mean that they are bad people- it just means they are having a good time horsing around with their friends.
All that aside, if in fact these 3 kids did harm Natalee, THAT is what makes them horrible human beings- not the fact that they take crazy pictures with their friends in what you would consider weird poses. I'm not trying to excuse the possibility that they're guilty- just merely saying that their pictures shouldn't be a judge of their character.
Posted by: Kasy | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 02:35 PM
Kasy - What one deems humorous is considered a good indication of his/her personality. It does not mean that all posed "gansta" shots indicate miniture Al Capone's out there, but there is such a preponderance of such pictures in this case. So the pictures do take on some importance when added to his reputation of being someone who could procure drugs, of hitting the bars and casino's underage, etc. BTW, I wonder what university you graduated "cum laude" from? Evidently they neglected to teach you that you need to use a direct obect pronoun after a preposition instead of a subject pronoun. It's "pictures of my friends and ME", NOT "of my friends and I".
Posted by: tideroller | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 03:10 PM
Tideroller, typos are common in internet posts- if you notice, I also wrote "fom" instead of "FROM"..
In any case, I wonder what you do for a living, tideroller. I went to one of the best liberal arts colleges in the midwest, was the Commencement Speaker, was president of the Psychology National Honor Society, was elected one of the top 25 seniors for excellence in academics and campus leadership, and was the Head Resident Assistant (RA) for 3 years, among other things. And I am starting medical school in August, so don't try to imply that I'm not intelligent.
My whole point was that just because people do some crazy things with their friends and horse around doesn't mean they are automatically evil people. I'm willing to bet those kids from Mt. Brook also have tons of pictures of them goofing off and having fun in what could be deemed an "odd pose". Again, that doesn't make them bad kids.
But go ahead with your comments- I know who I am and I'm proud of all that I've accomplished. I'm not going to insult you while you try and belittle me. I just happen to know how 18-22 year olds act; maybe you don't remember those days.
I was merely trying to make a statement about young adults. Do what you want, and say what you want about me. I'm not going to stoop down to your level. I just think that your rude comment to someone you don't even know shows your true disrespectful colors.
Posted by: Kasy | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 03:35 PM
SADLY...LISA FUNG...I do not think Natalee left with them willingly to go do anything sexually with them. I do not see her being someone like that. I believe that she may have been drugged.
From an interview with two girls that were with her on O'rielly the other night it was said that Natalee said she would catch up to the other group in just a few. It never happened. WHY...we do not know. That is where it all began.
Possibly the drugs that were possibly put in her drink were just starting to take effect.
THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH TO THIS. It will come to light. SOONER than later i hope.

Kasy - Intelligent, maybe, but evidently in need of some anger management sessions. Don't get so hot under the collar. You seem to be awfully defensive about your "intelligence" almost as though you have to convince yourself. BTW there are a lot of intelligent people on this blog, so nothing to brag about there. Best of luck in Med School, but cool down before you start operating. Accept the correction and let it go at that. Someone actually corrected the commencement speaker. It was bound to happen someday! BTW, a "typo" is a misspelled word, not a misuse of grammar. That is simply lack of knowledge.
Posted by: tideroller | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 07:48 PM
Tideroller-
There you go being a smartass again. I don't know what your problem is. Stop twisting things around.
And, nothing I had previously posted was said in an angry way, so please stop being disrespectful towards me and quit the anger management BS.
Posted by: Kasy | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 07:59 PM
Kasy - Was the profanity (which is totally lacking in my posts, as you will notice) a "typo", too? Anyway, I prefer to think of it as such. Have a Good Night.
Posted by: tideroller | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 08:10 PM
I don't understand your need to make snotty remarks to me because you didn't agree with my initial post regarding my thoughts on young adults horsing around with their friends in such "odd poses."
Friendly debate is fine- we can agree to disagree, but you crossed the line when you started being rude towards my comments. That wasn't nice.
Posted by: Kasy | Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 08:20 PM
I find this entire incident/situation very disturbing on all fronts. It is a lesson for all concerned. Number 1: If you have daughters and sons for that matter, barely of legal age and still under parental supervision from the USA, visiting another country, do not let them, under any circumstances, go off with strangers unescorted without a responsible older body builder male adult present. Number 2: Do not assume that just because a person is from a prominent and influential family that everyone in that family will look out for your best interest. Even if that country's main industry happens to be travel and tourism and expect that the family and siblings will always be on their absolute best moral and legal behavior. Remember the Skakels! This even happened in the USA. Number 3: All of us young and old must remember that things in other countries are different and can't expect perfection even in paradise. Every country has good and bad. Attitudes towards the USA in light of world affairs is evolving and not always in a good way and do have differing attitudes towards women! It highly offended me when I was watching FOX News in the evening on June 19th and saw two male attorneys being interviewed insinuated that the Holloway family and friends should be interrogated and polygraphed. This indicates to me that SOME but certainly NOT ALL Aruban officials are predisposed to being negative towards some people/genders and might even lean toward the chauvinistic side when the subject of women/female disappearances arises. I certainly hope it is not their attitude that Holloway had it coming to her. No one deserves to be abused. The 3 suspects, jvds, dk, sk, and the fourth sgc are acting as the poorest examples of ambassadors of their country. None of us is perfect but there are imperfections that can be tolerated but others due to their severity are just outright not acceptable only considered to be accepted by trial/jury under very dire cases of constant abuse and self defense. Murder, manslaughter, kidnapping, rape, and abuse are some of those. I know Paulusvds is very concerned about the impact this case is having and will have on his current judicial career pursuits. I am certain that this will not help him if his son is convicted in any way. This is a bad situation for all concerned! There will be no winners only losers. It is unconscionable that these four individuals especially jvds have changed their stories so many times as to obstruct the legal process. jvds is creating a public relations nightmare for the Aruba country and main industry, tourism, and for his father and mother. The Aruba country really missed the boat when they did not eagerly accept and utilize FBI forensic resources/strategies earlier and that the Aruba government did not bring into custody the correct people earlier. Let's just hope that the Aruba government knows what it is doing and will get the same results as we (the USA) might have gotten except in a different way. Irregardless of ethnic background, this type of disappearance is a nightmare for everyone. If Holloways body is soon found or enough evidence without a body is found to convict circumstantially those involved in this horrible "crime", the appropriate punishment needs to be applied. If accidental drowning was involved then it must be admitted/confessed in order to save everyone more grief over simply not knowing what happened. This is agonizing for everyone.

We Aruban know that the Dutch system isn’t like yours from what we see on TV or from TV programs, what we know is that if someone commit a crime they arrest the suspect, the police make the investigation, after sometime they will charge it, if they have enough evidence or prove they sent the suspect to jail but because we are a small community it’s better not to have the details in the press, because evidence can leak, so the details, the public will know them when the case appears in court. Maybe how the media had made this incident “headline news” only makes it more difficult to solve it. We are sure that most teenager everywhere in the world when they are not in the present of their parent act very different as when their parent are with them -they feel free-. But what really hurts us that some of us toke 1/2 day of our job without pay, -not all the people searching work for the government-, to help search for NH. And know we have to hear all the comments that the news reporter, talk shows and sites are telling about Aruba. This incident could had happen everywhere in the world and we know that before and after this incident, cases like this or more tragic happen to US tourist but it’s only Aruba they are trying to boycotting. Of course we have crimes drug dealing, raping, incest, robbery we even had a bank robbery with one dead, kidnapping we had one of a wealthy boy his dad was Italian some 5 year ago. We have a lot of passion crimes. But never a tourist went missing on the island. Maybe we are wrong but how it possible that a 17 year old “high profile” boy -how they are calling them-, can stand being detained in a small cell without his usual comfort and with 11 hours interrogation a day with the FBI helping the authorities, he must be damned clever. We read a lot of things about Aruba on different sites but none of these people even visit Aruba, it’s true our north coast is like a desert but we don’t feed sharks there to keep them from attacking tourist, because at the north coast with the white sand dunes is where we go “off roading” and it’s where to locals boys go to “body board” of course in the sea there must be sharks and sometimes fishermen catch them too but they are not the size of “Jaws”. Some suggest we don’t have landfill and probably they kill NH and sent her body abroad. Of course we have our own landfill how they can suggest that we sent our trash to a country that isn’t related to us and for their information we search the landfill too. They are telling that this can be an isolated case that they want to see our crime record because we have a huge jail. We sure the authorities will glad the sent everyone who ask a crime statistic of the island and maybe they can ask for information of the jail to see what is the nationality of all those in there, you will be surprise!! They suggest that the island is full with poverty, like every country we have poor people but if we are so full with poverty it’s very difficult to understand why we have so many illegal risking their lives in a small boat some even swim to reach the shore to live in poverty. Maybe the authorities don’t have experience in these kind of cases because we never had one before, but with the cooperation of the FBI it’s still a mystery maybe they made the mistake of investigating from inside to outside and not outside to inside, it was the weekend of Soul Music Festival we were full of tourist, all the guard of Festival worn black suit, that Monday every body leaves the island they even let all the student and chaperone go, the local authorities never spoke to them, they make their investigation from information and tip they received from locals, a local radio station received a tip that on the plane coming to Aruba one guy was bothering one of the chaperones and NH. Why nobody questions why some student are telling that at the bar only one chaperone went with them and maybe they can find out if NH has a dairy if she knows Jv/dS from the net of something like that. They reporting of drug baron , money laundering if all this is true then the FOL people working here isn’t working properly or is as corrupt as we are and they must know if you want to put money in a bank how many papers you have the fill all of that because of the MOT law to prevent money laundering. The media didn’t focus on that, they go searching for drug addict or prostitutes to interview them because they think it’s a case of white slavery, we never heard of that, the ones telling all these stories has the obligation to report them to the FBI because you know more than we do, because here the demand is for Latin girls and they comes freely and they goes freely they even married locals and stay here. And for what they are trying to boycott Aruba, we will suffer some will lose their jobs, but we will not suffer alone because the planes bringing tourist are from the US the Hotel owner and manager are from the US and ½ of the main street stores are owned by US citizen not mentioning the refinery. And for the comment that the Aruban people can’t be so friendly because the Dutch Government is trying to restrict our entrance to the Netherlands, now you can see it’s must be true from, our previous statement we did tell you about that when we sent our children to study abroad or when they are alone sometimes they don’t behave like you teach them. And the irony of this is that in this case it’s a Dutch boy causing all these trouble!! As some of you search for the Aruban map to see how small Aruba is you could take a little more time to see about Aruba history. We can’t discriminate because we are not “white people” we have different skin colors some lighter and some darker. But we sure if they are the ones responsible for what ever happen to NH they will be punished for sure no matter who they are. They are questioning our authorities, our laws maybe they are not the perfect but for sure we won’t make a circus for a pop stars accused of 10 charges and declare innocent of all 10 or condemn a old man with oxygen tank and tubes all over for 60 years of a crime done in ’64, how many will he sit? The Aruban always felt more related to US than the Netherlands most Aruban speaks better English than Dutch and of course every country with a growing has an increase in crimes. Every one of us traveling must take extra care because we are in a foreign country, because the opportunity makes the thief or whatever and we all know if an Aruban girl is missing in the states it won’t make the “headlines” nobody will even search for her. And of course we know that the majority of the US citizen don’t think like this and when they solved this case we won’t have any hard feelings and we will be free to show you the real Aruba and it’s people and for the ones of you who insulted a whole island who hosted you companies and people for more than 60 years we only have to say: Los perros landran y la caravana pasa!!
