I received an email from the Fox Producer indicating they were looking forward to having me on tomorrow night and the reason I wasn't on the guest list is that it was taken from an earlier draft. How can I not like a guy who read an earlier post?
What I did not mention earlier here is that when I do watch news on TV, there's only one channel I turn to - and that's Fox. Having followed Brit Hume's career over several years, when he joined Fox, I knew they were for real. I've also come to develop a lot of respect for Chris Wallace, though he irked me today on the radio at WABC because he was on the whole "All Natalee all the time" thing.
Frankly, I find that an elitist position from news makers more aligned with an old mainstay anchor model, as opposed to a vibrant medium that meets people where they live.
When people bash Fox it always amazes me. There are shows and journalists on Fox that it's fair for people to question; but, by and large they are more of an entertainment variety, than news programming, in my opinion. When it comes to a basic news report, particularly on issues of national political scope, there isn't a network going which can hold a candle to Fox's reasonable and careful coverage of relevant events.
When this confusing and tragic incident is over, I'll likely make a post on some of my behind the scenes interactions with members of the main stream media. I encountered little if any "us versus them" when it cam to blogs and the MSM. They have nothing to fear from bloggers and everything to gain, in my opinion. And a blogger wishing to do anything relevant when it comes to major events and political happenings, couldn't exist without big media. Hopefully one day there will be a broader and more productive partnership than there is today.
Both good reporters and good bloggers are each pursuing the same goal - truth supported by the facts. That's a very good reason to find a way to co-operate more.

Dan I don't know where you get your concept about Fox news being fair and balanced, but perhaps before you enter their REAL WORLD you should do your homework. Around these parts Fox News is nicknamed Faux news.
*********
If you don’t think the media lies to you, consider the case of Jane Akre and her husband Steve Wilson of Tampa Bay, Florida who, in December of 1996 were hired by the FOX network to be part of a team of investigative reporters at WTVT in Tampa Bay, Florida. In 1997 they, and their investigative team began work on a story about bovine growth hormone (BGH) a substance manufactured by the Monsanto Corporation and highly controversial. Akre and Wilson produced a four-part series that revealed that there were serious health risks related to BGH and that local supermarkets did little to monitor the sale of milk products containing it.
The FOX station was initially excited about the story, but later asked the reporters to use statements from Monsanto spokespersons that the reporters knew to be untrue and wanted the reporters to make other changes to their story that were in direct conflict with the evidence. When the reporters refused to alter their story and report FOX’s actions to the FCC, they were fired.
The couple sued the Fox station and in August of 2000 a Florida jury agreed that Akre was wrongfully discharged by FOX when she refused to broadcast, “a false and distorted or slanted story,” and she was awarded a $425.000 settlement and protection under Florida’s whistle blower law, but oddly her partner was not given an award or protection.
Fox fought the verdict claiming that there are no written rules against lying or distorting the news and they argued that under the First Amendment, broadcasters have the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports. In February of 2003 the Florida Second District Court of Appeals overturned the settlement awarded to Akre. The Court ruled that Akre did not qualify for Florida’s whistle blower statute because it states that an employer must violate an adopted “law, rule, or regulation,” and in an incomprehensible and narrow interpretation of FCC rules, the Florida Appeals Court claimed that the FCC policy against falsifying the news is simply policy and not the law, and therefore it is up to the individual station to decide whether or not it wants to report the news honestly.
FOX, who’s motto is “fair and balanced,” doesn’t think that the American people deserve and or want the truth, and they feel they have the right to lie to us unchallenged whenever they please. The most horrifying part is that FOX was not alone in their challenge. Five other major media outlets filed briefs as “Amici Curiae” or friends of the defendant, to support FOX’s position that they had the right to lie in their broadcasts. Those five were Belo Corporation, Cox Television, Inc., Gannett Co., Inc., Media General Operations, Inc., and Post-Newsweek Stations, Inc.
That’s right, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News and their Amici Curiae that there are no rules or laws against the media distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.
The Akre-Wilson case has proven in court that the media, in general, feel no moral obligation to report the truth.

Or maybe it depends on which side of the political spectrum you're on? Or shall we go on to name the grave mistakes the liberal media has committed *cough*Newsweek*cough*.
The article you referenced has as its last sentence: "The Akre-Wilson case has proven in court that the media, in general, feel no moral obligation to report the truth". The media, IN GENERAL, and if I may add, some more than others ;)
We were finally 'allowed' to receive Fox News by our benevolent Canadian government, and frankly, it's the only news I watch. So, SO happy not to have to rely on CNN anymore.
I'll be watching, Dan :)

Dan, you are now bummin me out...
Your blog is a good one and you deserve to be on the news show...BUT..I'd rather see you suck up AFTER your appearance. (Quite frankly, doing it that way is easier to swallow for everyone that reads your post)..
Of course, the reality is that it is your blog and I surely can't hold a candle as I am not the one expending the etra energy to get to the bottom of the story, post it for complete strangers to read and then hold down a full time job in marketing ....So...go for it, buddy..and have fun!!!

I really don't care what news station Dan or any of you watch...we all have a favorite.
Since I have been out all day and away from the computer...I really need an update; doesn't matter what station reported it...I just need to catch up!
I read something about a "party boat" called Tattoo???? Not sure what significance this boat has with Natalee....are you all thinking she was aboard this boat and dumped in the ocean? Is there evidence leading to that?
Also, I've heard a 4th person is being detained, a 5th person was questioned and/or detained, but is no longer a person of interest.
I will appreciate any updates! It's amazing how much I missed over a few hours....
Posted by: Christa | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 12:48 AM
Christa, Steve Croes, the 4th person arrested (today, 6:30 am) is an acquaintance of one of the brothers and some say a friend of JVDS. He's works as a DJ at a party boat called the Tattoo. No evidence that Natalee was ever on this boat.
5th person was questioned and released by police - he's a friend of JVDS named Max Arends.
That's about it so far.

Dan..
You keep all your great work continuing along and if Fox wants to interview you for the quality and high character that comes from your site and you feel good about it, then go for it Dude. The libs dislike your hard work and all they want is to create their own BS and/or siphon off better news from you and call it their own. For those that love AP, NBC, ABC, CBS in America, then they are the weak ones. Those news companies are loaded with weak wristed libs who think anyone with a conservative leaning drags his knuckles and is dumb as a box of rocks. It's the libs that cant think beyond Rather or Brokaw like folk.
GO Dan, go for what you think is best for Dan.

DAN,
Congratulations on your upcoming apperance on Fox News!
When I want to know what is the latest verifiable news in the United States this is what I do...
I actually go to to the childrens section of the library first which is CNN because it serves as sort of a childs primer lesson and then I go to the reference section of the library which is Fox News. (Recently I have become hooked on Riehl News because you focus on this particular topic of Natalee Holloway which appeals to my personal sense of justice)
This is from someone that grew up indoctrinated with all of the liberal idealogy of my day and I cannot begin to tell you
how much I appreciate the research and depth and analysis of Fox News.
Dan, you represent the next level of depth and I will look forward to your acknowledgement on Fox News because they
are alert and aware of intelligence and persistence to explore the depths of critical and logical thinking that is so lacking in our society today.
THANK YOU

The marin post on BST is a crock. Totally harmless and a naturally occuring compound in normal milk produced by healthy cows. The higher amounts of milk the cow produces is aresult of its own natural ability to make its own BST(ie. growth hormone).
Their is no difference between the synthesized BST and naturally occurring BST. If Fox changed the reporters story it was to remove their ignorance and save A libel suit.
BTW, I don't work for Monsanto, just a dairy vet.
I also believe Fox to be more credible in their news reporting. Just my personal observation.
Hoping Natalee's still alive. A father in Tx!

It's refreshing and your inside to now only the people who are posting here, but this is 'your' web page and site. Of all the news I have came across over these past 2 weeks, *you* and your site has been the most current, updated in the following for Natalee's life. I'm happy that MSM has finally realized *your* truth worth!

Speaking of the 26 year old arrest. His grandfather was an ex police chief officer. Police will not give any info about him but say that he was a part of the internet website and that is how the brothers (not joran) but brothers knew him.....interesting.
"It's just beginning. Everyone can say that bc we do not have one answer yet. We have to, we have to find my daughter." Natalee's Mom

Steve's Lawyer said he had a relationship with one of the suspects through the internet only.
They have searched his home...Steve...but not saying how thorough. Saying that the Uncle said police came and left quickly. Something about the boat......Did not take Steve's car...and supposedly did not search his boat.
Now speaking of the internet Cafe....and Natalee logging on. Said there is no proof, however, they have one of the suspects computer and are searching all of it's emails and hard drives....
Infrared helicopter...have not seen it....but they brought in a device to search the island...(the mole??)
Search did not include the gold mines from over a 100 years ago....why not?
That's all I got.....

Dan,
Congratulations on your appearance tomorrow; didnt really follow your blog prior to the Natalee holloway case. LOL being that you are a conservative and Im not i am not surprised that you like Fox News. News on Fox has a overwhelming tabloid element to it but so does every other channel. Its just that Fox's packaging is more entertainment oriented.
However its your blog and you are entitled to express and advertise your preferences.
Thanks for your excellent coverage of the Natalee Holloway disappearance and best wishes on your appearance tomorrow; most importantly, still hoping for Natalee's return.
Thanks-Matt

I read somewhere that Steve had "flight time", what exactly does that mean? Someone gave a website with his pilot #...?????? Can anyone clarify that for me......

you're right Roxy - the national enquirer on air.
Posted by: lawbster | Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 02:26 AM
The Steve Croes, pilot is not the same Steve Croes, DJ on a party boat arrested today. Croes is like Smith in Aruba. Julia Renfro reported on Fox that 20% of the Aruba residents have the last name Croes, for whatever it's worth.

If anyone actually thinks Fox is a good source for news, you may want to take a look at the PIPA media survey. They found that Fox viewers were more mis-informed than any other network (CBS was second worst... no other network was even close), and their misperceptions all favored the Bush party line. I don't know how anyone would be surprised by Dan's favoring Fox. Have you taken a look at the links he has on the right?? :)
Anyway, I still appreciate your work on Natalee's case, Dan!

congrats on appearing on Fox but I can't say I like it...I've looked at the channel when I was in the US last year and sometimes back in Europe but I do not take them serious, it just entertainement. The news and televsion in the US is SO different from what we get in Europe. I don't even know the names of the newsreaders here, it's just not important and they never give their own opinion on a subject, just facts confirmed or not. And no judging at all. that might look boring and it slightly is, but I want my news sources to be reliable and objective.
I was angry when I looked at a guy on Fox once who said that "For once the french did something good, they voted no on the EU-constitution" What does he know about europe, he does not know how the EU works, he does absolutely not know what was in this constitution...who was he to judge?
I think Dan is doing a good job in posting what he picks up, but not giving his opinion, always mentioning who his source was, wheter it has been confirmed or not...just stay like that, don't turn into a Fox-person who "feels" what the truth is. continue to collect facts and data, form the puzzle and you'll be fine!

Reading through earlier posts:
Dilma Arends – is an investigative reporter
Not sure who Max Arends is. Natalee Holloway had a Yahoo profile; it was taken down a few days into her disappearance. I checked it out a few days after her disappearance. Spooky.
I can’t stand Bill O’Reilly; he had a local DJ on and didn't allow him the time to express himself. Bill was spewing his rhetoric the whole time. I agree Fox news is tabloid, but it's entertaining at times. Civilian; saw your post. Kinda strange. It looks like the same person. If you think about it, this whole thing is starting to look like an amatuer job. Considering the people involved; partiers, probably up to no good.
In resp to: ‘read somewhere that Steve had "flight time", what exactly does that mean?’
- filght time is the time a pilot earns while flying an aircraft.
- Some folks have many ‘flight hours’ if they are career fliers.
- still hoping for the best outcome so the parents can live in peace.

An article on the history of organized crime in Aruba -- but it may be dated, it is 5 years old:
The Rothschilds of the Mafia on Aruba
Transnational Organized Crime Vol. 3, No. 2, Summer 1997
http://www.tni.org/archives/tblick/aruba.htm
This article traces the history of organized crime in Aruba and proposes that the local government is corrupt:"Aruba's reputation as a 'Mafia island' became public in March 1993 when it was described by the Italian daily "Corriere della Sera" as 'the first state to be bought by the bosses Cosa Nostra'."

Fox News is great. Finally, a different voice from the liberal dominated media and Communist News Network (CNN). The Network Stations, CNN, MSNBC are so full of their left wing ideology in all of their reporting, it's sickening. Fox has anchors and newspeople on both sides of the political spectrum and present a balanced new program. It's wonderful and provides news appealing to the mainstream of the country, not just the blue states. The other liberal media stations consider diversity as black, yellow, white and red LIBERALS. Fox, on the other hand considers diversity as conservatives, liberals, libertarians, blacks, whites, women and men. It's refreshing and an incredible new program. The others such as CNN and the network news are propoganda supporting their left wing ideology. GO FOX!!!!!

I do not know Joran's family, but I do know families like his. I kinda feel how he was brought up. Those parents are great loving people. That is why it kept puzzling me how Joran could get involved.
I think Natalee wanted to disapear and the boys helped her. At least they thought they were. For me that explains Joran's arogant attitude towards Natalee's father: he realy thought he was helping a maiden in distress. That made him (childisch) hostile towards her father.
My gues is that the negotiations right now are not with kidnappers but with Natalee herself. Could that not explain that Natalee's parents seem to be feeling better already? And I will be very happy for them when she come's home, they realy must have had a very bad time.
Sorry for bad English, I'm Dutch.
